Perhaps I should clarify a bit more about "whining" regarding the games that are available. Again, with respect to the individual gamer, one group will whine about how a game is a wow-clone, yet there would be an equally large contingent (perhaps larger) that would complain that it "strayed too far from the norm" and thus it's not worth the trouble of learning or adapting one's playstyle.
I can answer that.
No one complained that Guild Wars 1 strayed too far from the norm because the game itself wasn't the norm.
If SWTOR wasn't a WoW-wannabe, people wouldn't be complaining about it not being enough like WoW.
From what I'm seeing is most complaints are it's trying to be too much like WOW but even failed to properly clone it.
For me personally it's bad enough to try mocking some other game and passing it off as your own but if your going to copy WOW then you have to copy all the spit shine and polish too or you've failed.
Another majority thing I'm seeing is people are damn sick and tired of WOW and it's wannabes. Something out of the norm is what I'm seeing most gamers screaming to give them.

I can't say I agree with this statement. If we can't critique games or voice our concerns about the current state of the genre, MMOs will forever remain stagnant and will never improve.I'd say quite the opposite as you actually, if you see something you don't like, say it immediately and say it loud. It isn't about getting devs to tailor games to our individual tastes and needs, it's about helping the genre move forward.MMO devs (and entertainers in general) need open communication channels with their customers/fans else they loose touch with what people want. Being critical as a consumer is a necessity imo.
Except that communication channels that are as overwhelmingly (and unfairly IMHO) negative as those here at MMORPG will never be taken seriously. People on this site love to tear games apart and I honestly can't think of a single one that isn't relentlessly bashed here. Do you honestly think developers would EVER come to a place like this site for communication with the community!? I know if I were a dev, I would never ever visit this website for opinions from the "fans" so that I might not feel the urge to commit suicide.
To be fair my friend, not all games get bashed and trashed. And alot of the games that do deserve it. And I dont think the developers like that we trash their games that I agree on. Companies that make TVs, kitchen appliances and furniture dont like user Review sites either. You know WHY? because it hurts buissness. Cant be fun when you can no longer push out garbage and hope that people are to uninformed to buy it. Knowledge these days is only one click away and the powers that bee hate this trust me....
the only games that are not "bashed and trashed" are games nobody (outside of the gaming forums) cares about.
the more popular the game the more it gets trashed, that's how these forums work and i do agree because of that most of what is said here should never be taken seriously at all.
I've read through a number of the non-sticky threads, most of which are loaded with ambiguous negativity, disappointment and resentment about ToR and/or the devs. What it comes down to is that there is no game, nor will there ever be one that is loved and revered by all.
Yeah, obviously 'You can't be all things to all men'.. thats a given. However some games have less haters than others - they all have some.
What is the purpose of your thread? That we should reflect and say, maybe it's just me and not the game???
Hypothetically speaking, how poorly produced does a game have to be before you'll abandon this approach and admit, actually the game is bad?
Getting fed up of all these 'blame the players, not the game' posts. Developers and their games have to live up to OUR standards... not the other way round. Remember this is a capitalist society and it makes good business sense to provide the minimum necessary to meet the players standards. If we keep lowering our standards, guess what? Games will inevitably suffer.
When games dont meet our standards, we should damn well say so - and not be embarassed about it.
The way I see it....an MMO is a piece of art created by its director....Some of the best art in the world was created by poor, crazy and very unique individuals. If we don't like the art, we go on and look at the next piece. We have no right to demand changes to that art because it is the director's vision.
That being said, when you have a big Mega Corporation making a piece of art....do you think it will be aweinspiring, creative and rival the Mona Lisa? No. Big Mega Corps are out to make as much $$$$$$$ off of us as possible.
SWTOR was possibly the biggest con/rob job in the MMO world. Smoke and mirrors + hype + your money and then they take off with it, fire over half their support staff and move on to the next project. This may seem like troll post but it doesn't mean that its false.

A long winded whine/complaint about other people whining/complaining on a message board.
OP , the irony started as soon as you posted.
And signing off with the don't complain about X unless you can make a better one opened you up for the critiques.
That's a ridiculous statement and thus people rightfully focus in on it.
Yep that was a Fire and Forget troll missile disguised as a thoughtful post. Bravo OP!

This thread is still a more general thread and should probably be in the pub forum.
