well ya i would upgrade. but how to upgrade is based on what PC games u play.

If u like UT2k4, doom 3, or WoW. get a Nvidia.

if u like half life and counterstrike, and games with a "powered by radeon or ati" get a radeon.

cus right now the hardware industry is funding the devlopers so for example half life 2 was made for the Ati based cards. and it will perform better on ati cards, but it will still perform on nvidia.

thats basically what i gots to say.

    Thank you for that

do u recommend any speical type or will any do   ?

i myself prefer the Geforce series. mostly because historically the ones i bought are cooler(heat wise) then the ati equivalants. and the main reason i do is they let other companies, like BFG modify there cards, and change the hardware. makes for a much more diverse type of hardware I LOVE THE BFG ASYLUM SERIES. i am currently using a BFg asylum model 5950, and it is fast , very cool(again heat wise) and it has great open GL drivers.

    thats my 2 bits.

Not really the case. Just because the ATI or NVIDIA support one or the other doesnt make them any faster. In fact, most of the time it makes no difference at all. Eq2 would be one example, nvidia promised to deliever on this game, but ATI beat it. Wait for benchmarks to be released on the game to choose. The one thing you can depend on is that Nvidia will be better on OpenGL and ATI/Nvidia go back and forth with DirectX.

If you do get a new card, go with the new nvidia 6 series. They currently really pwned the old series 5 card. The FX series was a disgrace to the nvidia brand- crappy crappy Direct X support. The 6600 gt or 6800 gt are both good choices.

So- If you go with ATI- Get a X800 NVIDIA- 6600,6800

I love the 6600Gt by Nvidia. Very solid card and it's around $200 so you're getiing plenty of bang for your buck.

can u not read?????? it says before games POWERED by Ati or Nvidia. and it does make a difference. like this, if u spend 200 on a nviida or a ati, then lets say u bought the ati. and play UT 2k4 u will run at medium low graphics. were if u spent 200 on the nvidia u can run em at medium.

THIS IS CALLED PREFFERED CARD. IT SAYS ON THE BOX OF THE NVIDIA 6800 THAT IT IS PREFFFERED. this does exist.

I was going to make a thread, but I'll just post my question here. I currently have an FX5700 ultra, should I upgrade to a 6600 GT or wait? I've got a couple things I want to buy before then (hard drive, ram, dvd -/+ rw drive), so it will probably be a while before I buy it anyway.

Its crap. All the "powered" means is that the game company is supporting that game. Has very little reflection on whether it plays well on that card. There is something called "Requimented Requirements" but they do not normally perfer one brand to the other. With UT2K4 That isnt true at all. The 9800 Xt outperform the so called "powered" 5900 in almost every test in ut2k(a direct X 9 game). The x800 and 6800 run back and forth depending on the dirver patch.

    image

    image

WOW- the so called "powered" card lost. Then the 9800 beats the shit out of your 5900. The 6800 goes back and forth with the x800.

Then there is Everquest 2- runs far better on the non-powered x800 than it does the "powered" 6800.

Powered doesnt reflect crap, the only games that is matter is doom 3 and half-life 2. Otherwise, look at the game.

Satan, if you are going to upgrade for gaming, get the 6600gt. The FX series card have bad DirectX 9 support and SM. The 6600GT is good deal, faster than the 9800 XT at a budget price.

u dont know that these tests ARE INNACURATE. IF U READ, it says at bottum THIS IS OF STOCK CARDS, NOT THE ONES NVIDIA LETS BFG, AND OTHER COMPANIES MODIFY. SO IT IS NOT "TOP OF THE LINE NVIDIA" this is basically the medium high nvidia. I DO NOT OWN A 5900,  I OWN A BFG asylum model; 5950, which was MODIFIED, fromnthe 5950. and it is SUPERIOR to 9800 pros, and comprable to the 9800 pro Xt. because it was made FASTER, tehn the stock Nvidia. i have never bought a stock Nvidia.

if in tests like this they did geforce modifications by the 30 or so companies that modify them, they would be testing way too many cards.

I did the research do yours and you will see their is a difference between "stock" nvidias, and the aftermarket modifications their is a huge 10 percent at least performance difference.

READ A SURVERY THEY ARE ALL MISLEADING.

u idiot and also the "powered" means drivers. and the X800 Xt blew the hell out of Nvidia for a while, it was just a superior card. but on the lower end, the lower end nvidias do perform better.  This survey has most of the ATI cards on their, but their are much more nvidia cards then there are ATI cards, much more cards, so this survey didnt compare all to all. do ur research.

LMAO. You think there it a difference between a stock and a BFG OC. The BFG OC add 20mhz core speed. Thats it- about 1 fps difference. The aftermarcket modification have very little if any difference. If they really OCed it high, they would get too many defects therefore losing profits.

    Enjoy that 1fps!!!!!!

And go to anandtech and read up on the FX line. The 9XXX is superior to the FX line in almost everyway. Powered means that video card company is supporting that game company. Nothing else, Ads really. So do your research into the english language and stop making sentences like "do ur research".

thats not all they add. they change the driversso they are more advanced and compatible. they add more cooling, and they consume less energy. the drivers for the stock and the mods are a huge difference, this is the initial drivers, adn the updates. on the nvidia website thats why u choose your exact type of card for update. and the cards are also more efficent in their power, and memory usage. they all use at leat 99 percent, where most cards only have 90- 95 percent efficency. it is a difference.

My BFGtech 6800 GT 256DDR3 is perhaps the best card I could ever get for my AGP built system. I love the card and hope to support BFGTech more by purchasing their future Nvidia series cards.

No, the nvidia website driver uses unified drivers(http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp). The drivers are all the same. You only select whether it is geforce. All mods can change is cooling and very small overclock- in the end there is very little between all the cards of the same line. There is mods for both nvidia and ati- you are just refusing to believe that your 5950 might not be as good as you though.::::02:: Cuz in the end "powered" doesnt matter, and ATI 9800 pro/XT beat the 5950 in UT2k4(A Nivida powered game)

BTW, Im not saying the BFG or any other non-stock brand is bad. All I am saying is that your choose should be based on personal preference not performance. Im not againist nvidia either, i have a 6800 GT and a ATI 9700.

lmao, just give up, shrubber and the rest, you wont be able to convince him. On G4 (tv channel about games) they have a showed called The ScreenSavers and they used to have lan parties every thrusday or friday (cant remember) when ever they mensioned this they said POWERED BY NVIDIAAAA!!! do you think the show had special drivers and the hosts were 99% more effecient? nah, they were just being supported by nvidia

Yep, Powered doesnt make a difference at all. Its all about game Ads. Because in the end, nvidia/ati rely on noobs that say "LOOK THAT GAME SAYS NVIDIA, I NEED NVIDIA!".

Luckily my cousin works for ATI and he is giving me an X800 pro for free once I pick it up at his place. I'll give my thoughts on it when I install it. According to the benchmarks, this card will own. But it's got a steep price tag.

/cry dont make fun of me... All it really comes down to is preference. Only the super hardcore over clockers pick the best. If you like ati, get the x800 and if you like Nvidia, get the geforce 6xxx series.

I can sum up ATI and Nvidia since I have owned 2 of each card

ATI-Cheap parts. Bad Drivers. Card will last 2 years before artifacts set in. Meant for video editting over gaming.

Nvidia-Good parts [fans, heatsinks, ect] meant for gaming and video editting, great drivers, stable.

come to think of it... I have two computers in my room, one has an ATI and the other Nvidia. my alt-rig has an

    Amd Athlon XP 3200+
    1024MB DDR
    ati radeon 8500DV 64MB

and i have to say, i can run newer games pretty damn smooth on that card, i havnt tried hl2 but cs:s worked well with decent settings, i can run the matrix online beta on high settings and the same with daoc catacombs.

BFG Techs support is EXCELLENT. Good products, too.

My MSI GF5600U has great cooling and overclocked by 40mhz on core and RAM. 10% performance boost with no artifacts. WOOT!

Yes. The BFG tech OCed 6800 is almost to that of a Nvidia 6800 GT ultra for 100 dollars less. It is amazing.
