It would be much harder to make software capable of mimicing the behaviors of thousands of players simultaneously. In that case the stress test would be effective for gathering data without needing the maximum possible players, just ramp up the artificial load simulator and data-mine from the several thousand people likely to play no matter what time or day it happens to be.

But they were talking about backbone problems with the European servers last time. How can they simulate a packet loss?

Absolutely. Hmm and come to think of the original question of how many gamers want to see the championship..

All my mates that will play GW2 with me, are watching.

In fact lately I have only been playing a little social online game and I was watching the matches along with a friend from Portugal, a girl from Estonia, a woman from Greece (which was funny watching the game of Germany vs Greece with her >I'm German< ) and of course and endless amount of people from the UK during England's last match.

It was kinda like public viewing online in an mmo.

I'm from England, but was born in Germany and love English domestic football but never bother with watching the England team as they a bunch of prema donna's and are a joke at taking penalties as they have proved again and again. They are getting as exciting to watch as Spain, except Spain grind out results and England don't.

I'm glad they have the stress testing in the time they have as it will test loyalties...

Also some guy before wrote that Gw2 has more fans from Germany, that made me laugh. Interesting how Germany still have this mentality that they are better and have more than every one else...Think not!!   ;)

Hey sorry man but don't quote me on what someone else said. I'm playing on an English speaking server like I do on every single online game.

I could care less about German communities. If I want to meet Germans I will plain go outside. On my games I prefer a broad range of nationalities.

    ^^This

I suspect that they have made some change to the server configuration or something that they want to test with real players before the next BWE. The results of the stress test will no doubt decide where they focus their efforts in the coming weeks.

**Please note, this stress test is not for your benefit, it is for the benefit of the Arenanet devs**

These are good for official info, but any info is usually instantly updated on good GW2 forums like http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/ for example.

    Optional reading:

While there are some great GW2 community members here (though many have migrated ;), most discussions on this forum revolve around attempting to clarify misconceptions of non-fans that really don't seem to want their misconceptions cleared up.

I've personally found that people who are actually invested in the game and actually have a solid understanding of its systems offer way more interesting and critical discussions and ask much more interesting and relevant questions than the smear campaigns these forums seem to exist to perpetuate (true of most games here to be fair).

Do yourself a favor and poke around, there's a ton of great community sites out there. Keep an eye on these forums if you enjoy the outlandish drama and twisted microcosm of warped logic that has spawned here. For example: "Wait! How do we know if GW2 failed if it doesn't have subs!?' - really think about the logical process someone used to find that they required an answer to that question. It sums this place up quite well.

you know during the last beta event the end event didnt go off like it was supposed to this "stress test" may be their way of killing two birds one stone rerunning the final event in the one location allows those who didnt get to try it a chance to experience that plus they can see maybe what went wrong with the event?

just a thought anyway as i got cut off as well about 20 mins before the event so it will be nice to get a chance to check it out as im off work tommorrow lol
