For past few months im not touching any mmo but playing almost everyday DayZ instead and game for me is even with its flawes great game to play.
Seems bit odd being a mmo player playing a FPS survival zombie/player shooter with permadeath.
Whats wrong with this picture guys tell me?

Nothing really
A lot of people has caught the Day Z bug. Since the game only has gear progression vs a skill/level system, having perma death is not as discouraging in a FPS title.
It's a good game but it needs a lot of fixes to be great. The disconnect/Server jumping to farm gear and avoid pvp needs to be fixed as well as the zombies AI/pathing among a lot of other things.
You know exactly what to expect from the genre at this point... while DayZ is mysterious and unforgiving, making every day with it an adventure.

Now Playing: Skyrim, Wurm Online, Tropico 4
Waiting On: GW2, TSW, Archeage, The Rapture
And DayZ is just plain FUN! World is huge and the fun factor never ends. And if you like as an Arma II mod, just wait till Arma III comes out!
Let's party like it is 1863!
What's wrong?
Nothing
It's a multiplayer survival horror shooter sandbox. A lot of MMORPG players love their sandboxes.
With that being said, it wasn't for me..
.. But in a good way.
well the old hardcore crowd that is now around 34, that grew up with the mmo-genre is dying out. THey are married haev a job and little time for games.
My guess is, that from the experience they made , aka wasting life in pixels that wont benefit in reallife at any point, that they also wont let theyr children play at all or for to long.
And the new generation has been informed about games, and theyr dark side of life.
Its no wonder, that new games are all casuall friendly, since there isnt really a market anymore for hardcore gamers.
Sounds like youre starving for a sandbox..
while all companies are spewing out are themeparks.
Open huge world to explore and one objective try survive thats about it, its so simple still so much fun.

Zero wrong, just because you tend, to play mmo's doesn't make you strictly an mmo player. Frankly I don't know anyone who only plays mmo's. We're all gamers and when something good comes along we want to sink our chops into it. DayZ is one of those out of the blue, shot in the dark strikes of lightning that is just pure fun. Enjoy it, and if something else comes along for ya, mmo or otherwise, enjoy that too.
**Edited because I spell bad*
Nothing. People play all sort of games all the time.
I haven't touched any MMO in a month or so too. I am playing D3 everyday.
I was playing mostly Deus Ex before that. I will probably be playing Arkam City afterwards and little MMO probably until MOP is launched.
Nothing is wrong. That is how a gamer operates .. play whatever games he want whenever he wants it.
Heck, some days i won't even play games but read or watch movies.
What in the seven hells are you talking about?
Hardcore gaming is as strong as ever these days and there are tons of 30+ gamers out there along with new gamers being born every second. Yeah, a lot of them are casual, so what?
Gaming is one of the biggest entertainment industries in the world (if not the biggest) and games do not have a dark side.
You sound like one of those people who watch a documentery about game addiction and blame the games....nope sorry but if it wasn't games then those addicts would be huffing something else.
Playing: Tera, BF3, ME3
Waiting on: Guild Wars 2
DayZ is a great mod, I've been having some fun for the last week with it and not tired of it yet. There's just that sense of survival and the longer you keep on with your character the longer you attach to that will to survive in the game. It took me a while to get used to the mod, specially since I've never played Arma II. But by exploring and understanding the game mechanics and map you get used to just knowing which way to take and what buildings have possible valuable items.
Besides that I love zombie games and movies so it's perfect for me.
Remember... all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more.
I'm actually having trouble installing DayZ. Even when I download the Arma 2 free version or operation arrowhead, I can't play online.
Help?

Haven't played Dayz but perhaps it is and feels more like a world then mmorpg's these days?
I mean in Dayz you make your own character and adventures (even if it is just centered around shooting weapons) mmorpg's make you do a pre set path.
Kill five bunny's zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
DayZ is just a winning combo, hard choices, luck is a major factor. Bigger guns don't make you harder to kill, better still. Bigger guns force you to make a choice, fire and the person you're aiming at dies, but every zombie in town will know where you are. The target could also be your best friend to be, or your nemesis. Choices, so many to make. And every single bad choice could be the last.
Loving it!
