Having been in several betas in my lifetime, and been told it is "just a beta, we are working on performance" I have my doubts. I have a very good system that runs pretty much everything at high settings on most games today pretty well.
Rift has always ran kind of above average but not great. They told us during beta it would get better and it did, but not by much.
I am concerned that GW2 is not going to run much better than it does. I know they said that it is CPU heavy in the beta, but I am not sure if I buy that. I think this is the way the game was written and there is not much more they can do.
Keep in mind what you say "runs well" and what I say runs well could be two different things. All I know is that when I game is hovering around 30fps and sometimes dips below that mark (when your eye starts noticing choppiness) it bugs me.

yeh it happen we just need to wait and see ...lets just wait probably it will be fix the game is not release yet we cant say anithing for sure till is the end .
Given the changes they made between BWE1 and BWE2, I wouldn't be too concerned. In BWE1, my FPS was hovering between 15-25 in zones, and 30-45ish in instances. (This is with AMD Phenom II 3.2 GHz and OC'd Xfire HD 5770, of which OC and Xfire weren't supported.) I was also suffering from some horrendous latency issues, though I'm guessing I wasn't the only one.
By BWE2, my FPS in regular zones was around 20-50, and in instances 50-60. With zero network -related issues. Game's still CPU bound as well, so I do have high hopes.
Performance was pretty bad in BWE 1, but in BWE 2 i had zero performances issue, granted my computer is high end, and can run battlefield 3 on highest settings without going under 30 fps. I did not check my fps, but from my feeling it was around 60-90.
It's still running dx9 only. Do you believe any company would put out a game today that is dx9 only? Aion runs dx10 at least. They have implemented some multicore support which is the improvement we seen last beta but until gpu support and dx11 I wouldnt judge the performance as being what it will be. They have also said many times that it will be the last thing finished which makes sense, find the lowest spec that is acceptable and scale up from there. Not everyone playing will have the best hardware so they want to get it to run great off the cpu alone and scale it up for those with the gpu.
You have your doubts about them working on performance during a beta?/sigh
do you know anything about software development?
What issues are people having? It worked really well for me on the last BWE. Granted I didn't actually bother to check the actual FPS but there were no noticeable performance issues for me.
rift had terrible fps issues during its beta..some people have short memories.
it runs great for me and im pretty low on the totem pole these days but given the fact that there are games which should run but dont on my system it doesnt suprise me and the dx9 well i still have xp home and wont change to vista there is no dx anything above 9 on an xp system so i could care less about dx 11
as long as it works thats fine by me
Why get insulting? Didnt you read my post about Rift? Do you know how many betas I have been in? The performance improves but not by much. Maybe this will be different.
did you play both BWE's, and if so, what are your computer's specs
because the 2nd BWE ran super smooth for me and everyone i've talked to
where exactly did i insult you? You said "you have your doubts that they are working on performance", of course they are working on performance thats the whole point of a beta, whether they achieve this or not has yet to be seen.
In BWE1 things were smooth as butter. In BWE2 it felt like there was more crash bugs, but the bugs weren't really in the way. There were crashes when I exited the game or after I took a screenshot with their high quality screenshot feature, but not much else. The loading screens were not that long. I don't know what performance issues are happening. I know that in the first beta that the game didn't use the GPU yet. I'm not sure if it was used in BWE2.
The loading screens in swtor(a released game) are about 5 times longer than guild wars 2 loading screens(in beta)...i think they are doing pretty good so far.
We already had a humongous performance boost in the last beta. It was, much, MUCH better than BWW/Stress1.
And, as others have noted, I fully expect for a more polished final client. They are working hard to tweak things up, and it showed.
I think any pessimism about this, at this point, is largely unwarranted.
I only played BWE 2 and I was dissapointed..
Was in BWE2 and had absolutely no FPS issues, infact I was amazed that it was running so smoothly.
What are your specifications OP? And what setting were you running the game on?

I concur, what are your specs. Just as important though what antivirus and firewall do you use. How often do you clean up your pc. How much crap is installed.
GW2 at the moment is mainly CPU based. So any Highend videocard you have is barely utilized. Anything that taxes your cpu while playing will thus slow down your performance.
Even on my 4 year old PC it ran quite smoothly.
I can understand your concerns OP. I can tell you I had no problems with framerate (30-60 at all times, 1900x1200 all settings maxed except shadows at medium and AA off) I did see some reduction in performance if shadows went above high or AA was turned on. I suspect that's because the GPU is still not really being used.
Specs if you care:
CPU: i5 750 OC'd to 3.44 gHz
GPU: ATI Radeon HD5770 1gB, OC'd something like 30% above factory settings, I forget the exact numbers.
RAM: 4 gigs 1666mHz DDR3
HD: WD Caviar Black 7200 RPM SATA II
I mention the overclocking because there was concern from Anet that OC'ing might actually hamper performance. Seriously, if it did, I would be FLYING normally.
My gf also played both events, and while she has lesser hardware and settings, was satsified with her performance as well
CPU: Intel e8400 OC'd something like 25% over stock
GPU: NVidia 8800GTS 640mB that I am continuously amazed does not burst into flame. OC'd something like 20% over stock.
RAM: 4 gigs of some ancient DDR2, forget what
HD: It's Sata. And old. That's all i remember.
She got a consistent 30 fps running all settings medium, AA off, 1024x768
You people do realize that optimization is not in place yet?
They are using heavily modified version of GW1 engine, and GW1 is smooth like a babie's butt. Pardon me.

What gave you that idea? The combat is entirely different, networking is entirely different and rendering is quite different as well. That doesn't leave much, does it?

I am a tech/gamer so my PC runs well, no junk, antivirus, etxc.... I am OCD about keeping my system optimized perfectly. I run all games on max settings with ease.
I get no lag unless I am in heavy PvP. For example a tower or wall bottleneck, with 100+ people on my screen. Then the game turns into a slide show. And that's even when I have everything turned down on a very good gaming rig.
This is what needs to be fixed/addressed, being this is the bread and butter of their game.

The thing is, perception is reality.
I think ArenaNets decision to show the game to this many people in its current state is a mistake. I think they should have tweaked performance first befire showing it to the public. Sure, a lot of us know that they mentioned the performance will be improved, but how many people out there who dont post in forums tried it, hated the performance and now dont want the game?
I am a graphic designer and one time I was working on some new buttons for a web page. I sent these buttons on a blank page to my client and he said, "where is the rest of the site, you sent me a blank page with buttons". Even though I told him I wanted to solidify the buttons before working on the rest of the site I understand now that it was a mistake.
Even though I knew what I was doing, he received somehting in his mind that was incomplete.
GW2 is a Directx 9 game. I have not seen anywhere that it will have Dx11 modes at all.
Erm the BWE aren't for preview purposes. It's for actual testing. They have stated this before every event. If you assumed something else than that is your fault.
