See the big background advertising a game? Those adds cost a lot of money but the gaming companies wont spend that money on a site that gives them a bad review. It's not rocket science.
I think it is an accurate rating, so do alot of folks. It's cool you don't think so, but like every game, some people like them and some don't. It would seem that they like a game you don't. So maybe they think its an 8.7 and thats how they came up with it...

its not hatred
its dissapoinment that any game with a chat box can get the label mmo.
LFD tools are great for cramming people into content, but quality > quantity. I am, usually on the sandbox .. more "hardcore" side of things, but I also do just want to have fun. So lighten up already
Six months have passed and the game has lost at least two thirds of it's player base because it's crap after you hit level cap.
Somehow I think the review scores should take this into consideration. After all, this is an MMO site and MMO's are supposed to provide some longevity, are they not?

I think TOR having more subs as a "failure" than SWG did at its peak during its "success" angers many disgruntled SWG vets.
They just want nothing more than it to fail no matter what. Just to make them feel better because the game wasn't a sandbox.
the game did lose a lot of subs, i don't think thats something that can be denied, but, im not sure it was about 'endgame' personally i think the games biggest problems, at that time, was really the grouping issue, 1.3 dealt with that issue pretty well so if player numbers continue to decline i would be fairly surprised. If the game had launched in the state it is now, then maybe things would have turned out differently.

yet here you are doing just that, defending which you do almost everyday.
Good that you like the game but please stop lying, posting history is not a secret.
Might want to check that post history a little better because ive stated my issues with this game multiple times. Just because im not [mod edit], doesnt mean im some blind fanboy. The truth is that rating is many months old and people are still bitching about it. Why? What is the point? Why do people care about a rating given by some third party website? The game is out there. Some like it, some don't. Deal with it.
This thread is a strong candidate for a lock. I mean, this exact topic has been discussed how many times? Its like taking the exact same topic from 6 months ago and doing a super necro and pushing it to the top of the forums. Whats the difference? Seriously folks time to move on.

Time to move on is when sites start doing honest reviews. Letting them think we forgot all about it only leaves the door open for repeat offences.
How did MMORPG come up with that rating. Someone much of made a lot of money or cashed in a favor.
Simple... the game was new, recently released. The biggest gripe I've read about TOR is that once you finish the story there's not much left to do and people leave (of course, there are other complains, but this seems to be the biggest one). Game was released on december 20th, review came out less than a month later on jaunary 6th, when the biggest flaw, again from what I've read, wasn't apparent yet. Which is why, from what I've seen, mmorpg.com has been doing re-reviews of the games about 6 months later or so updating the original score, I'm guessing that TOR is due for one soonish.

Wrong and immature logic! Its no longer a review when the trolls feel as if they need to be agreed with to be honest.
Honestly, if you want a good feel for the game without having to constantly wonder if the reviews you read are "pay to give high score" or not, you should go ask a wide variety of people who are not paid to review something AND have played the game, even if just beta. While their statements will probably be biased, there is usually some kernels of truth amongst their bias and you can put together the truthful parts to get a good idea.

This. Not to mention the fact that you actually know the person and know what their likes and dislikes are. I've never paid attention to "professional" reviews. I much prefer the opinon of people I know. This goes for all forms of entertainment.
I have to admit.. after playing the game for a number of months.. reaching max level.. I'm questioning the 8.7 rating.. But to each their own.. Ratings are personal, just like opinions on music , movies or other forms of entertainment.. For me, since SWTOR followed the gear grind formula and had limited replayabilty.. I would give it a 7.0.. TOPS.. Even that is being favorable..

Someone still looks at ratings?
From ANY site or magazine or something else, to be more precise.

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

The game deserves an 8.7--I love it.

Guy was fired. Of course not for that, mmorpg.com says.
An honest review of SW:TOR 6/10 (Danny Wojcicki)

That number is the number of weeks the average person who bought the game would play it.
SWTOR had good ratings all over the net.

I got banned from mmorpg by simply questioning the mmorpg rating (especially the innovation rating).... several times.
