Dungeons in GW2 -- will be any different from others?

Kykyryz-aKykyryz-a Member Posts: 113

While GW2 is doing lots of things differently  Till now we only saw  1 dungeon out of 8 and its pretty much same  thing as in 95% other MMORPG.

Im not talking about  how its done im talking about  where it is done.

It is same cave as always  will we get  "open world" instanses? like  can't remember name in RIFT where we can see beutiful mountains, snow, grass not just dark cave (but still very limited and straight forward labyrinth).

i have feeling that GW2 must have  like 5 out of 8 "dungeons"  outside in a "real world"   with  open spaces  where you can decide which boss to kill first and it will somehow affect other bosses.

Somethg new to the old system (not saying story/explorable mode is bad)  maybe even somethg Similar to DEs but in a bigger scale where you must defend/free  some town.

What do you think? is it only me who wants some sun in his "dungeon" experiense?

or maybe you have some ideas about new way to create dungeon?

Yea thats a fun idea.  There should be some open air areas and maybe there are in GW2.  I dont know.

GW2 does have traps in dungeons and seemingly a lot of them, and some fun platforming and I like that too as thats not something Im used to having in an mmo.  A real use for the jump mechanic.  About time.

But I dont think thats what you meant.  I too would like to see some more open air.

Have you see the dungeon they added to WvW?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGuH0miLtns&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PLE880636A2C5FDB85

There are also non-instanced, hidden outdoor jumping puzzles:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qPNFMTlldM

Finally, there are "mini dungeons" that can be unlocked at the end of certain meta events:

    http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mini-dungeon

(list is incomplete obviously, but I did Flame Temple Dungeons). These can be run with 1+ players and are "open".

    "Loading screens" are not "instances".

    Yeah saw it.

i do love how they added some "puzzles"   im big fun of jumping, loved Jumping to get skill point, never been in WvW jumping puzzle  as cant say it is dungeon. looks like it can and will be  fun way to pvp :) with all the traps   but will be sooo annoying to run all the time if you felt :)

what the reason i got some problems with dungeons sure we havent seen  even screenshos from all others  but so far  we saw NEW ideas in a game and  a strong feeling saying its all will be the same  later on  same jumping / traps.

i od believe all of them will be 100% fun and dificult to finish.

Just  saying we need somethg new  beside caves and jumping.

For Example:  "open world" Instance  from starting position you have  several  camps around with "bosses" in them  they are preparing attack on a keep/town   in front of them.  And here you can decide

A: go fight Camps to weaken  attack  (easy way)

B: Some sort of  sabotage their supply/water   so bosses will unite againt you  or maybe special boss will come (medium)

C: talk with "neutral" npc and somehow join  agressors and try to take town  with them (hard)

D: go underground with Jumping/traps and some sort of mutants who live under the town fight them  just to  Enter town and  help defending  with Npcs.

D.2:  same underground  but to Find some  friendly boss who will help.

Maybe not best example just a thing i can imaging right now.  But idea is to have some Open spaces in instances not  Labyrinths in caves with  jumping puzzles only and traps which will just annoy you after time.

  • I imagine dungeons in GW2 being more "exploratory" and less linear than your standard MMORPG on rails dungeon. Perhaps there will even be open DE dungeons? That would make a lot of sense. WAR showed PQs to work well in dungeons, so the same would apply here.

This^, there allready are Dungeons in the game world. With boss at end and minigames/puzzles to get to the boss.

Yeah, but the Manor and and Sorrow's Embrace seem to be indoor dungeons. Don't know about the other ones.  And hile i expect Arah to have some indoor parts, i'd be pretty stupid to fight Zhaitan in a closed cave image. I do wonder why devs don't make their instance outdoor like some off TSW's. It doesn't always have to be a cave.

Regarding mechnics, it seems to be the same as other mmos. Mostly trash mobs and bosses, DPS the sh** until it dies with some secondary elements to it, like the Lovers where you have to use knockbacks with skills or rocks. Or that Archer where you use long range weapons, or a rock again if you don't have any. However, i do expect a challenging run from them. I also expect some nice mechanics like that trap idea in the Catacombs in explorable mode from time to time.

let me see, i have a Necro lvl32 on GW2...i completed the  Ascalonian Catacombs dungeon on story mode

i dont know but the simple fact that you cant agro mobs make dungeons of GW2 diferent form the dungeons of others MMORPG i have played.

this was just the first dungeon on easy mode and was by far hard than other 1st dungeon i have try. trash mobs? well is a dungeon you need to have them or will just have bosses? problem is those trash mobs are much much hard that common trash mobs on other dungeons i ever play.

but wasnt you that say GW2 was just a WoW clone?

I'd be cautious about making predictions based on nothing but experiences from what is essentially a tutorial dungeon. Fact of the matter is: we don't know yet what the other dungeons will be like.

Let that guy alone, I saw him in every threads and in every game titles and the almost of his posts are like "same old, same old, same old, mmos these days are bored, yawnn". I am very curious if this guy hate the recent mmos so much why he waste his time to visit this website and whining over the threads everyday.

Yea I noticed it too it's why he's on my block list because his post are always the same ol same ol b/s, so predictable you know?

Also to the OP, wait till the game releases and try out the sylvari dungeon. There was a description about it, I don't know if it was pc gamer or not. Someone might have a post, any way descriptive wise it's far from the norm dungeon wise unless you lie to yourself. I'm waiting to try it out though.  Can't unfortunately :/

I might get banned for this. - Rizel Star.

The main problem I have with dungeons is people.

You see, in my opinion, dungeons are there to run once. Thus when I am entering the dungeon, it's for the first time. I want to take my time, to see all the corners, to check everything. To try to find how it's done...

But unfortunately I am grouped. And oh boy, here it goes... "What, are you moving or what? Run, run, run... Gogogogo! WTF are you doing? That's a dead end, don't go there. Skip the damn thing, there is just a couple of boxes there. Okay, everyone knows how to do the boss? No? What a bunch of noobz! You just do this and that and then that okay? Gogogogo! We may even have time to run it twice today, if somebody would just press their damn buttons faster!"

Bah. Sometimes I wonder why I even bother with mmorpgs anymore. It seems the only time I'm enjoying player interaction is when the player is in my scope. :)

Have you ever consider forming a group with like minded people? Find people that share your interest and make a group around that?

I don't see that as a dungeon problem, but rather one with communities in general.  Except for the rare cases when a group just clicks, must PUGs are just plain old bad.

Guilds and friends lists are my choice for grouping.
