According to him the average spend by PAYING customers in f2p games annually comes to around $5,000 person. Why? Because people do not have the willpower to close their wallets and realise that they are getting ripped off. I will never PAY for a f2p game...ever. I will also never so the full benefit of a PAYING customer in f2p because I willl not be ripped off. F2P is a scam. Run from it as fast as you can.

same reason i dont pay a subscription. Im getting ripped off, so i vote with my wallet. As soon as i pay for my digital download or my retail box i should be able to play the game as long as i want without spending another cent. If you fall for that comment from the CEO (which is somewhat true in some cases) but then accept a subscription, then you are doing it wrong.

The game actually has a TON of potential for F2P monetization with the way they've set it up so far.

Generic mounts/pets/cosmetic items in the cash shop, even things like unlockable character slots since the game promotes alt-play. But there is a TON of other stuff. Lightsaber colors and styles would be HUGE. New races (which they're already putting in). New story quest packs. New companions.

There's a TON of potential money to be made there. F2P/Hybrid model, with subscribers getting access to all except the cosmetic things in the cash shop and maybe even a small stipend of cash shop currency to spend. Free players get access to all the actual content, but are locked out of any of the new races, have limited character slots, have to purchase access to the stories on new planets (some of them at least), don't get the new companions as they come out, and have the option to purchase all the cosmeetic items.

Honestly, this is probably one of the easier games to transition to a F2P/Hybrid model. The only other games I can thing of that have an easier time of it are CoH/CO since there is an insane amount of content to sell with how huge wardrobes are in the character customization options.

This is one of the most painful things I've ever read. Let's see if I can break it down for you so you will understand...

F2P isn't always "free", you're right. But look at a game like Aion. 100% of the game is free. You can experience ALL of the content in the game without spending a penny. That seems pretty free to me. A lot of other games do gate content a bit, but you still get a pretty big chunk of the game for free.

Of fucking course someone is paying. It's a business and they need to make money. That doesn't detract from the fact that you CAN play the game without spending money, that's the "Free to Play" part. The ones paying are CHOOSING to pay. Nobody is forcing them to pay a subscription if they want to play, they're giving them OPTIONS to purchase things and they are either CHOOSING to purchase things for real money and suppor the game or CHOOSING to not purchase things for real money but still enjoy the game.

I'm curious as to where your EA number comes from. The only thing like that I can think of is one of their execs mentioning that he spent 5k last year on EA's F2P games. There ARE whales that pay thousands a month on F2P games. That's how Zynga makes their money. But that's not a bad thing at all. These people can AFFORD to spend that money and WANT to spend it, so they do. The developers have given them the opportunity to do so and they're taking advantage of it. It works out better for other players since the whales will foot a big part of the bill.

If you think it's a scam (a few games run super shitty F2P models that almost are a scam, true) then you're a fool. People are welcome to their opinions, but yours, sir, shows that you are ignorant and have no understanding of what the F2P model really is and how it's beneficial for both developers AND consumers.
