The graphics on this game are by far the best I have ever seen in any MMO. On top of that, character creation is top-notch, there are dinosaurs, robots, space travel, etc. in this game.
One drawback: REAL cash economy. However, there are ways to make money in the game and extract it right out into your bank account. So theoretically, you could spend 100% of your life playing the game and turn up a profit, perhaps even enough to support a simple lifestyle.
Maybe this is old news to you guys, but I just found out about this game today and feel inclined to try it.. What do you think?

i hope not. the graphics arent really that great from what i saw, and i dont really agree with having to pay 1k (usd)++ to buy a parcle of land where i may not even make back 0.01% of my investment..
on top of that, i personally see games as a form of relaxation and entertainment.. if i have to start investing all my life in to a "game" to as a means to live or anything.. it stops being a game it becomes a job.
which then means i have to have another game to play to relax from playing that one..
so no, rather not see every game/mmo copy this one. i get bored of solitare...
Ive said it before, if this game wasnt so rl money-centric it would make a perfect sandbox. Its what other sandboxes should look like. It does take lots and lots of resources to make such a game, and thats why your random indie developer cant make anything close to it, and most sandbox games end up being just a glorifed pvp arena without real purpose other than fight stuff forever and ever
they say mortal and darkfall have housing? Sure, they do. They also have open world. Now compare their version of housing and open world to entropia/other planets worlds and youll see how inferior those games are.
you mightve been looking at an older video and seen worse graphics. they have done some upgrading. check out this video I found:

if you still say those graphics arent "that great", you are one tough cookie to please.
oh.. another one ;]

thats a very nice looking space ship. nice graphics going by the youtube video you posted. last time i saw pics for that game they looked pretty bad like EQ1 on low settings but that was a while ago now.
id still rather not have mmos follow in its footsteps though, as i do not like the monitary demands E-U has to be able to enjoy it. sounds too much like programs like second life and such.. where you are neutered in the game unless you fork out huge wades of cash.
though i wouldnt mind seeing games with its graphics lolol hate to see the system specs required for those higher visuals (not really in a mood to invest in a crys 3 system just to play a game lolol)
They updated the engine a year ago to the Crytek 2 engine I think.
I just started playing this game today! So far its very awesome. I have no idea WTF im doing but im enjoying that part lol.
I used to play the game years ago and I have since cashed out.
It get very expensive to play (especially nowadays).
Everything decays (some perm-decay and you have to spend money to repair them). Ammo cost money, fuel cost money. And it is not easy to make money in game at all as a mid-tier player (as hunting and mining returns are not good and crafting is even harder) so you will ended up dumping money in it and not getting much in return.
Unless you are the upper-tier or top-tier player like I was (better off NOT because we are more experienced or anything, but because we have equipments from the beta days that are crazy economical because of their very low decay/repair cost and also because we had sought after items that we looted overtime and have houses and vendors and purchased land that can generate us revenues) or you are willing to dump massive amount of cash in it you won't be able to have a sustainable gameplay experience.
Thanks for the input.. didnt know about everything decaying. I was aware everything costs real money though. I guess I was expecting a game where all you would have to do is invest 50 bucks and that'd be good enough to get you to a point where you can make enough money ingame to pay for everything. sounds like more of a hassle the way you put it... Maybe one day when im rich I'll play :]
Yeah it uses the CryEngine now.
The world and assets are probalyl some of the best looking you will ever see in a current MMORPG.. characters leave a lot to be desired tho..
I played it as would any other sub game...
£15 a month and i had some great fun.. wish i could have got my clan to paly as well but they all got scared off because you have to buy in game cash with real money to start with..
Its well worth taking a look at this if your looking for somthing different... just dont go throwing too much cash at it as there is really no reason to. Dont go into this game thinking your gonna make a living off it lol just treat it like any other mmorpg and have fun.
EU definitely has some of the nicest graphics I've seen in a MMO....The gameplay is quite a bit different from your traditional MMO and that would probably keep alot of people away.......I met some people in game that had said they really didn't like the pay model though and had spent alot more than they realized at the time......I never paid anything for it but I never really got very far because of that......AMmo was excrutiatingly difficult to come by in the game as well as some other things.
Basically from my few months experience (putting in $15 a month) It was very fun to be fair however I soon realised that the whole game was designed to make you have to spend money. It got to rediculous points where even taking on and off armour would cost money as it would cause a degrade and hence cost ped.
The game seem flawed to me as there was no point in doing anything. In other MMOs I use professions and crafting to make money, however in Entropia the chances of you making money is very rare as the whole crafting system works on a dice roll system. In which the more you put in the less you get back. Eventually I realised that there is no point in doing anything other than sitting and chatting because whatever you do, you will 90% of the time end up worse for wear.
After my first month or two I began to find the game really stressful as most of the time I would be worrying about being economical rather than just enjoying the game.
It is fair to say that there are some players who are able to play the game and make money but all of these players have invested extremely large amounts into property e.g. Jon Neverdie who invested $100,000 and that was back in 2005. To have the same success as him today you would be looking at upwards of $750,000.
I remembered, actually there is one thing you can do to make enough money to enjoy the game reliably. If you invest about $100 for a jet (forgot actual name) and then fly players between planets and other places you can charge a fair and make money.
By no means are you required to buy land ot make money. Land ownership is basically "endgame" level stuff. It let's you earn money from every payout on your property through taxes, and let's you hunt for free on your own land. It really was a deep and interesting MMO. I just didn't have the money or patience to get into it. I dropped 20 dollars, and I think my total account is worth about 14 dollars after a month and a half of play. The whole thing has been compared to an online casino. While I feel that is a little bit of a harsh assesment it isn't very far off.
"I am not in a server with Gankers...THEY ARE IN A SERVER WITH ME!!!"
From my experience of played it for a few years and was around since beta I can tell you that $15 a month you definitely won't get enough out of the game - $15 is like around 100 or 120 ped and with a decent gun (a gun that has low enough decay to give a reasonable return on investment) 120 ped you won't even have enough ammo to play for 1 hour. I can easily go through 300-500ped in a day but for us long time players 300-500 is more sustainable and it is almost nothing consider that we deal in things that cost at least 1000ped ($120 arounds or 100 euro).
The thing is in this game the people who started early, like me and some of the people that I used to be in the same Soc with or big players that I knew back then like the CoatKillers soc or Neverdie (said story btw, but that's not for here) we had a significant advantage, in that we have gears that have low decay and are sustainable, while also have lands, housing and shuttles. Those things can all make money and we got them for cheap back then. You can't get the those things for the same prices anymore (not even close).
When I left the game back than all the gears on my avatar alone I estimated to be worth at least around 4000 to 6000 euros in value, and I got them all either through loots (mostly, over a long time) or back when they were cost 200-300 euros. Truth is players who have been around in that game for a long time hasn't needed to put in money for ages. Up till when I left game I have not put in money for more than a year, because the more stuff you have and earlier you start the more sustainable the game is.
New players almost have no chance to play sustainability in that game unless you dump in a lot of money.
This game is an awful ponzi scheme !
I played the game for almost a full year. I was a "hunter" (no not the class) but a player who sought out and killed mobs. I got 1 really good drop the entire time (Atrox Alpha dropped shadow gloves or something akin to that) and sold those for near $2500. Mind you that was ages and ages ago. My experience is well outside the norm from those I spoke to. By and large without a HUGE amount of luck you will keep throwing RL money into the game. It is heavily weighted to keep you pouring the $$$ in.
