i was under the assumption that Tera's end game wasnt filled with a bunch of loot obsessed little kids like wow.i thought Tera's end game was pretty much like Lineage 2,you get max level and then grind and pvp
... or spend dollars to buy gold with chronoscrolls and then comfortably obtain the best gear with minimum efforts.
Right now in US Tera chronoscrolls are really cheap because there are rich players that spend lots of cash to enchant their gear. Cash -> power
Just like an F2P game.
At least there is no chronoscrolls in Eu Tera. Maybe Frogster wants to just go directly F2P and not "almost F2P" like Enmasse. lol
You're not really buying the best gear with Tier 12 gear. Tier 12 gear enchanted will make you eligible for HM dungeons which drop Tier 13 gear. This gear is BOE too but they sell for a lot of gold. You can only buy 2 Chrono Scrolls a week which can get you about 1.6k gold each. So you'll need to buy and sell a lot of Chrono Scrolls to get the best gear. The price of Chrono Scrolls are constantly dropping on the broker so their value is diminishing. You also need to enchant your gear which has a chance to fail. I don't really see the Chrono Scrolls being buy to win at all.
I don't really see the Chrono Scrolls being buy to win at all.
Yeah I checked out the whole chrono scroll thing and it seemed like one would have to buy a lot of them over time in order to make a huge amount of money.
If one can only buy two per week and the scrolls were selling for 1500 - 5000 or so then that's gonig to be qutie some time before one can pay teh 10,000 for one piece of gear, not enchanted.
That's on Dragonfall.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
My biggest issue with TERA is the lack of pvp. On a pve server I can duel or do the guild duel thing.. I need a little more variety in my daily gameplay choices to keep me interested. On the fence about keeping my sub any longer. Between TSW and GW2 right around the corner, unless they get their battleground style pvp into the game quick, I doubt I'll be around to see it when it gets there.
The only reason TERA is failing in my opinion is because of its pricing model. It asks full price + a subscription fee in a time where multiple triple-A MMOs are free to play or buy to play, when it cannot hold a candle to their quality. Your complaints are all valid, but they all become invalid when the game is free to play.
I'm pretty sure they know they released a product that won't hold peoples interest that long. I'd say they're just cashing out on the true fans, keep an eye on when those subscriptions start falling off and then go free to play.
It's just not good enough to justify the cost.
This for sure ^^^^
I think that the majority of MMOs coming out will have the same problem if they try to go for the subscription. Everyone is sick of subs
I'm not sick of subs. It's my preferred payment model. I don't even mind a "fluff" CS on top of it.
Why anyone thinks that $10-$15 a *month* is too much money for entertainment is beyond me.
Not surprised at all this game is dying. It is basically a unique combat system surrounded by garbage topped off with one of the worst communities i've ever seen in an MMO. They actually think PvP is ganking lowbies. Players spend hours defending why ganking lowbies is PvP. Is no surprise at all that people are fleeing this game in droves.
Agree
+ over in the UK (and the rest of the eu), we have the other nail in the coffin - Frogster.
Played a mystic to lvl cap then just quit. I found the community in general to be absolutely awful.
I do check the eu forum now and again to see if Frogster are going to eventually release some patches - I believe they are at least 5 behind en-masse - but the pure nastiness and abuse just drives me away every time. I've been an mmo player for many years and am familiar with the usual forum trolling - the tera crowd takes this to a whole new level of vitriolic spite.
Thinking about it, the players base over there and Frogster just about deserve each other. Long may they stay together and not contaminate other games.

execpt you can only redeem 2 chronoscroll a week and they only sell for 2k gold each, I easy farm 2k gold in 3-4hrs or 1 lucky drop from a dungeon. And 4k gold is barely enough to just get your weapon depending on yoru class. So idk unless you want to do nothing and just sell chronoscroll for idk maybe 2-3 month than ya you can buy the gears you need.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
Rising Phoenix/Illuminus/Prophecy vs. Divine/Nagafen on Basilisk Crag today, two altercations totalling a fight time of 30-35 minutes, 60-80 vs 60-80.
Fun stuff, there's no rewards but it's fun to co-ordinate and fight in such a massive, dragged out battle. Divine/Nagafen tried to funnel us into a tight crevice, somehow by the end of the fight our roles were reversed and we were on the other side, then we began pushing back until they were all the way back to the safe zone.
Pve endgame in general is a waste of time, I really don't know why people waste their time, the gear serves no more purpose once your at cap in these themepark mmo's.. Yet people are stupid enough to keep their subs open to waste their time and money to try to get gear that has no more use. Now if you can pvp with said gear thats fine. But most themeparks go one step further down the stupid tube and make pvp gear have "special" stats that doesn't appear on pve gear, making the pve earned endgame stuff even less of value.
pvp in tera:
no battlegrounds
no arenas
no ladders or standings to boast who's the best
no territory control
no sieges
no RvR
no objectives
no point
considering the above, would'nt you rather stick to pve ?
... Right now when you hit 60 your job is to get your T12 gear set by running Fane and BT instances over and over again...OR you can buy the gear off the broker (see point 3). With that you do daily tasks in several zones to gain reputation in those zones for items. But, this gets old - fast.
...
...This is why players in WoW run end game over and over and over again - to get their gear!
I just picked out a couple of quotes that struck me.
It's not really on point for your original topic about why Tera is failing in your opion. The problems you pointed out seem substantial. I think Tera has already pretty much failed in Korea (where I'm writing from), so you could have guessed this was going to happen even before it came out in NA. They probably just wanted to get the box sales at least, since they already developed it.
I'm quoted those two things you wrote because I'm not sure. Is that what you want in an end game? Of course, if you enjoy that, good for you.
The things I quoted above are pretty much exactly why a lot of people are tired of raiding-based end-games.
#1 Yes, the guild rank system could use improvements. We didn't run into any troubles with the current system though, if clan leader is not available he just passes leader to someone else from the inner circle.
#2 Yes, there's not much of an endgame on pve servers. A few instances to run, but that was it. The title has the same problems as nearly every other straight themepark: developer can't generate content at the speed that players consume it. PVP servers luckily got PVP which is not as repetive but even there I'd love to see some real open world content liege sieges or world bosses.
#3 What you see as an fault is something I clearly prefer. There's not much that I hate as much as being forced to repeat the same boring PVE instances 100s of time to get my gear. I prefer to make money trading/crafting and then just buy what I need. What exactly keeps you from doing those instance runs if you enjoy them so much?
#4 I guess BGs are nice for PVEers, I prefer not to see them on the PVP server. I started to play for the Open World PVP and BG' destroy those usually.
#5 Don't confuse the words "time intensive" and "hard". Take for example L2 oldschool, you had to kill millions of easy mobs to get to max level. Easy as crap, so boring like hell, didnt take long and most of the server was botting. If you are a casual player you gonna need 2-3 months, if you are a hardcore player that plays 8-12h a day you might be able to do it in 2 weeks.
Anyway please don't make up stories that you reached max level in 2 weeks with only a few hours a day and leaving out some days. That's not helping your argumentation.
I'm not disagreeing with the OP but in regards to point 5.
Has there been any MMO in recent years that took someone 2-3 months to hit the level cap? I can't think of any. It seems to be a common failing in MMO's over the last 4 or 5 years that 2-3 weeks to max level is standard. I know not everyone agrees with this point of view and like getting to max level quickly but I think it's sad that all anyone thinks of these days is "endgame".
Just bring back eq 1 with original content, updated UI and graphics and we will be fine.

So when you pk someone, they don't drop loot and don't lose xp either?
A friend of mine is playing tsw, and hes been playign since early access, and now? he's nearly run out of content to do, and he logs in going durrr what can I do now? I think tsw is going to have a massive drop in players after the includedmonth due to lack of content and the fact you can get thru it all so fast.
Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:
A. Proven right (if something bad happens)
or
B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)
That's just some PvP from today... this same thing happened yesterday and Friday... and the same thing happened last friday, saturday and sunday and the week before that, as long as that keeps happening i'll keep playing.
This game would be perfect for FTP. People arent sick of subs but sick of bad games. Back when MMO's were good and had real communities. N one ever said, paying 15$ a month is a waste. It was the opposite. We would of paid more because it was so great.
The funny thing that nobody seems to take into account (and works for pretty much any product/service out there, digital or not), is that HAPPY CUSTOMERS rarely give feedback, and so you will never hear their voice (especially not on this forum lol),
So while basically (almost) everyone in this thread is complaining and throwing around doom and gloom, there's loads of people who are having LOADS of fun with the current endgame (yes, including rolling alts for the sole purpose of gathering mats for crafting 250 -> 290), who are happy to pay the sub (even on a 3 or 6 months billing cycle) and who are brushing off their combat skills in skirmishes or massive battles like someone mentioned above, waiting for structured pvp.
Bleeding subs? The more scrubs leave, the happier I am. Community will be smaller and better. In this regard, I'm hoping that when GW2 will go live, TERA community will improve greatly (as it will feature much less whiners and prophets of the 2nd coming. They will pollute GW2 community until they will leave for the next game)
Free to play? So we can get the very same scrubs back ruining the game? quitting dungeon runs screwing up everybody else? No thanks.

Not my video.
Well i think is more of an endgame issue
- only 2 dungeons to farm till the end of times
- Nexus? epic fail lagfest
- owpvp? epic fail boredom without objectives
- Vanarch system? epic fail with no profit and gvg exploit
- RNG enchant? epic fail grindfest
No wonder the game is bleeding subs like crazy.
There is literaly nothing of value at endgame. Let's see how the new battlegrounds are going to do...
This game would be perfect for FTP. People arent sick of subs but sick of bad games. Back when MMO's were good and had real communities. N one ever said, paying 15$ a month is a waste. It was the opposite. We would of paid more because it was so great.
Now every half ass game wants a monthly.
When will MMOers get it through their thick skulls that 200 to 300k subscriptions is the damned ceiling for these games.
And its a ceiling that a company (and its fans!) should be PROUD to get to.
When WoW dies....
Tera is nowhere near that numbers....
The funny thing that nobody seems to take into account (and works for pretty much any product/service out there, digital or not), is that HAPPY CUSTOMERS rarely give feedback, and so you will never hear their voice (especially not on this forum lol),

At best, I would accept it being "Freemium".
Don't worry then the Tera community will soon become one of the best community ever
