The stock itself is doing well.

It's above 11 at the moment, which is almost double what it has averaged since 2009. Irresponsible reporting coupled with irresponsible trolling creates very distorted information, especially if nobody checks facts.

    Also, look at the 52 week low:      52wk Range:5.20 - 24.70

Please ignore the OP moving forward.

October 2011 it was at 8mil, it jumped closely before release of TSW to about 16mil, then after the release it went down to 11mil, which isn't all that uncommon. Age of Conan had much worse drop (from 55 mil to 7 mil in a few weeks) and it wasn't the end of the world for it either.

I'm estimating closer to 800k which would be ahead of pace for their 1.3 yearly projections.

TSW is a game that will grow. We can see that already just by looking at these forums. New people are finding out every day.

May be due to the secret world.

16 million to 11 million drop in about 1 day.

It states how much went into development 300,000,000 kroner, which is 50,000,000 USD so less than many recent MMOs.

I noticed X fire had TSW around where star trek online launched, and have seen whoever valuates stocks for video games use x fire a couple of times before.

Article mentions that the CEO changed positions.

Maybe TSW is a later bloomer and will start doing better later on. This may have a grave effect on the game though.

My wife works at Tesco, thier stock dropped a heck of alot this year, no store closures, no layoffs, just cheaper Tesco shares to invest in now.

Whats your point anyway in posting about the fluctuating nature of the stock exchange?

It cost less than 200million actually.

The profressional "market" does not understand the video game industry and has no idea how to price success or failure of projects into company value.  I never and I mean never would purchase a video game companies stock because of that.  The value of the stock won't follow any sort of logic as those of us who play the games might think it should.

  • AwDiddumsAwDiddums Member UncommonPosts: 416

If you also take note of their historical share price it has actually been increasing since 2008, nowhere near what it used to be worth but it has managed to slowly regain ground since it's huge dip in the early part of 2008, next time Op give ppl the whole picture not jsut a bloody snapshot of 1 days trading.

This is how it works guys. Just like we sell beta keys when they first become available, the people buying and selling stocks do the same thing.

It has nothing to do with how good or how bad the game is. The day traders could give a flying s*it. Most of them never even play/beta the game, they just follow the hype/numbers.

The BEST time to sell mmo stock is RIGHT after the game launches. There is a good build up to that time to buy it. Promote it. etc. So that's what the daytraders do. They buy it low months before, let the hype build up, THEN SELL SELL SELL.

It's like a movie being released or something.

Nothing shocking here. Except the fact this game cost TONS less to manufacture than SWTOR and is 100x better...lol

There has not been a number published on how much it cost to produce SWToR. There also hasn't been a number published on how many copies of TSW have been sold so far. I'm not even sure there has been a published cost for TSW either.

Which makes all of this kind of pointless. It's not possible for anyone to prove any of their estimates correct (yet).

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

At least most f them. Lets try to not read too much out of this, we will see how good TSW is doing 6 weeks or so from now no matter what stock anylists or X-fire say.

Funcom's stock does not trade in the US, it trades on the Norweigan stock exchange, so I'm not sure how you can blame Obama for this. I guess it's not uncommon for some folks to try and blame him for everything.

At any rate, the stock went up significantly as Funcom approached the launch of TSW. This would appear to be related to the financial projections provided on box sales, subscription targets, cash shop targets, and the overall revenue and profit expectations.

    http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/echarts?s=FUNCOM.OL#symbol=funcom.ol;range=1y;compare=;indicator=volume;charttype=area;crosshair=on;ohlcvalues=0;logscale=off;source=undefined;

The stock has dropped 40% since the release.

    Here is a recent article:

I am not interpreting the reason for the drop, and certainly the current economic picture in Europe has led to market volatility.

Your personal efforts to troll any game will not, in fact, impact the success or failure of said game.

If you are spo deeply thrilled over other companies and games, especially if the fail, why not go full out on it?

By-the-way, the Xfire numbers are tremendously misleading. First-off, not everybody uses Xfire (myself and honestly every gamer friend I know does not). Secondly, there is a well-known bug with Xfire not showing TSW players -- Funcom stated they are working with Xfire to resolve it.

    Article link here: http://www.facebook.com/thesecretworld/posts/306944982735824
"We received reports from players that say that the XFire client does not detect The Secret World correctly while playing. We are aware of this and are working together with XFire to get this fixed as soon as possible."

Here we go again. You're getting pretty good at this. Listen, stocks go up and down for a number of reasons. Any questions?

Man, you really must hate this game to spend so much time finding this stuff. Honestly, I'm having fun playing the game and the last thing on my mind was funcoms stock ROFL

This is peoples jobs and lives here dude. If TSW fails and FC shuts down, lots of people will lose money, like 38 studios. WTF do you even gain from that?

TSW aside, I don't get this notion some people have that people that work in the games industry are entitled to employment no matter the circumstance.

If a game does fail and folks do lose their jobs because of that then that's just that. I certainly don't think we need to put up with bad product out of a sense of duty to keep those responsible for it in a job.

Maybe, even, those people will leave the games industry and actually find jobs in a more stable and less demanding, but not so enjoyable, field and clear the way for new talent and fresh thinking in what is a small and very incestous development community.

I agree with in general the players should just play.

But it probably tells you just a bit more about Funcom. They borrow a lot of money, they take advantage of a ton of tax breaks. And they do set forecasts and expectations for all those funding. It does seem obvoius that whatever #'s they told these groups, it's not in the ball park.

But to the gamer, if the servers are up, there are people to play with... all good. It's no surprise it has a sales cost/monthly and cash shop. These guys always seemingly bite way more then they can choose. Perhaps they did the gamer good on this one, bu the investors are still getting the same ole.

Just looked at a history of the stocks even with the small dive it is still on a 3 year high since 2009

  • GargolaGargola Member Posts: 356

With the COE move last week, and with the volatile market we live on, this is no surprise.  Stock holders don't care about the game, they in most cases don't play games, but they saw a change on the board.

Aas is probably buying stock as of now, he has been an ass with stock fluctuations caused by him before.

  • jdnycjdnyc Member UncommonPosts: 1,643

I wonder how likely Tares would of made this thread if Funcom stocks went up 40%.

Regardless, it's not good news and will impact Funcom significantly going forward.

  • JohnnymmoJohnnymmo Member Posts: 99
Ok so i Think OP has gone a little 2 far. This is no financial site.
    Let me clear some issues.
Funcom has lots of cash at the moment. They got this through diluting the shares which means that there is more shares out there so stock prize goes down. So do not worry about them not being able to continue making content
+ they come with sales numbers in august.

I believe OP to be shorting funcom stock. He/she is only on these forums attempting to fool readers often by insinuatting that funcom is doing poor or generally saying the game sucks. Now this would be fine as we all have preferences but op only posts in Tsw threads.

He is obviously norwegian or he wouldnt find all these norwegian financial sites

So yes he has a secret agenda.

With all them secrets he should be playing the secret world ;)

    First post, maybe last post.

I am a Funcom stockholder. I was (was) a gamer for may years prior to pursuing other activities.

The stock has plunged since before release due to general global risk aversion but, most importantly, due to speculative buildup. As usual, a lot of people have gotten the idea that they would be evil rich come July 3. As usual, said party and market professionals try to exploit the situation. A lot of people had the idea that Funcom would publicise pre sales number on launch date and when this didn't happen fear, as usual, became the mind killer.

    Fear is the mind killer.

Panic and fear has reigned, rumours fly, information is non existing and chaos is king. They day the CEO left, the stock was up.

Fortunes have been lost. The very same fortunes are now somebody elses fortunes. Fortunes will return. Such is the way of the my new and favourite MMO, The Stock Market. And yes, what is happening with the share price now is just a lot of noobs pissing pants and better suited players are grinding.

I'm very happy that most of you seem to enjoy TSW. My money holds great value to me but a great player experience cannot be measured in money. I would gladly pay may full stake (ok, maybe not the full but..) in Funcom just to relive the experience of Monkey Island, Quest for Glory, Civilization (1,2,4),Diablo,Ultimas, Freelancer, Hard Hat Mac, Wizard of Oz, Pinball Dreams, EQ, CS, Quake,Jones in the Fast Lane, MUDs, Eye of the beh...

You know where I am. Happy gaming! Happy shaping!
