Actually GW2 and GW1 are not bad compared to Tera, Rift, etc.
Why is it that AoC managed to avoid a lot of the "my inner feminist is offended" posts and it has full frontal? It really seems that people see oversexualization when there is the least bit left to the imagination, but when it's all out there, it's almost refreshingly 'honest'. Very, very strange stuff people.
I voted boobies, btw.
AoC Lore has the way women are treated and objectified built into the lore. So it's not like they added it in the game just because they can for no apparent reason.
Unlike other games, yeah looking at you TERA and GW2:
Retarded big swords and Amazon women in mini skirts & thigh high boots seem to be the norm. In the end it's just a game, who cares.
Some examples of female armor that arent very skimpy:
I like that one on the right, but it does look like something from Victoria's Secret. I saw this other pic of that outfit on the right while surfing around at GW2 female pics and I saw how different the dyes can make you look. Here is another example of the girl on the right in a different color. (This actually shows a comparison in character models between GW1 and GW2).
The posts on this thread just scream "uninformed", "hasn't explored the game much", "kneejerk defending the game", and "lack of perspective". On both sides.
Not that I'm complaining but I imagine some players want to play a female character that isn't running around dressed like a prostitute. So what do you think? Are female character's oversexualized?
I like the attitude. A man wearing whatever he wants (I, for example, fond of a thong. I think I look sexy in a thong.) is just excercising his freedom to be himself. A woman wearing something that makes her desirable is a prostitute.
The feminism has truly won. Hurray.
No dude in the history of dudes has ever looked good in a thong, the rest of the species should be spared the mental image let alone the reality of this.
Here's the only picture I have of the armor my friends were wearing. They were actively searching for armor that were respectable. At this point - I was wearing the same set (although male). The differences between the male and the female set was extremely small. The medium set of the same type of armor is also respectable. Sorry I don't have a better picture of what I'm trying to describe. Some armor sets are tasteless but there are just as many options for the other side of the spectrum.
Sigh. I voted yes because the poll was in general, but if you're referring specifically to Guild Wars 2, I disagree.
I'm a feminist, and frankly I think it's just as sexist when people call women in revealing clothing "dressing like prostitutes". Slut-shaming is just as crappy as oversexualizing women, people.
I find your post overly simplistic. Yeah, lots of women don't want to play a character in revealing clothing. Lots of women do. A very small portion of the starting female armors are skimpy, and there are plenty of early-level alternatives. Guild Wars 2 has a fairly progressive set of armors. There's variety, so you don't feel like you're at a Mormon convention, and you're given the choice of whether or not you want to wear something skimpy, super skimpy, or church-appropriate. And frankly, even most of the skimpy outfits are not particularily sexualized--they're revealing for both male and female characters without looking like lingerie (the starting human cloth armor being a major exception).
I think you should honestly do some research into just what the GW2 armors look like before grumbling about "I don't want to look like a prostitute". There are tons of options and you aren't forced into wearing any of them.
sadly, very few care about being "crappy" to one another but i feel this post pretty much covers all the bases. if you don't like skimpy outfits get a non-skimpy outfit.
of all the games with female characters, this isn't the one to single out for this. it is one of the better games.
i feel some people are basing their opinions on the entirity of the game's wardrobe on just the starting outfits.
It's not really just about what YOUR character looks like, right? For those that think the outfits are too skimpy, they have to look around at a bunch of whores (in their mind) all the time.
So while yes, you can find conservative clothing in the game, the vast majority (as this flawless poll tells us) are going to be wearing sexy time outfits because they like them.
A lot of the females we've seen have happened to be in some of the most revealing armor—probably not accidentally—but this doesn't appear to be a design rule for the game. The armor designs usually change very little between the sexes:
There are, however, some very notable exceptions:
Yet I've only noticed this in light armors—and a fraction of them, at that—which arguably aren't intended to protect you from sharp pointy things in the first place. Doesn't excuse the hilarious differences like the above, I'm just saying it doesn't seem rampant, and it is overall a hell of a lot better than the original Guild Wars in this regard.
Edit: That said, I voted yes, in the absence of a ‘yes, but there's been progress’-type option.

Men in some games are like muscular greek gods. I dont think that is much better... In games both men and women are often perfect stereotypes and not like normal people at all... But its not the real world. Its fantasy. I dont think its makes much diffeence if you are a man or a women. Some guy with a pot belly and tiny muscles will not feel much better if he looks at those "greek god" perfect men in the games.
Games are designed that way. Perfect sexy men and women. But you escape from reality when you are in a virtual world .Perhaps the character should look like what you would like to be. Or what you want to be in that virtual world.
As a personal rule I prefer to be sensibly clothed but in both BWE's using just drops I was wearing sensible clothes on whichever profession I was playing by level 5 (I tried all the professions). In the end I don't care what others wear - I just need to have what I'm wearing work for me and GW2 offers enough options to keep me happy. The really good news is that I don't need to waste inventory room saving my starter armor for looks later on:)

I don't think you'll find that most women consider the overmuscled men of video games to be sexy. There's an audience for whom that's certainly true, but I'm pretty sure it's not enough to argue that it's done for the benefit of women. It serves the male player's power fantasies, not the female player's sex drive. i.e. Most of these games offer characters that are ‘perfect’ only from the expected average male player's perspective.
That said, Guild Wars 2's character creation does better than usual at offering both power-fantasy bodies and ladyboner bodies, I think.

Some outfits I would definitely agree, and I don't really like it. I think it's really unnecessary and even a little lame/immersion breaking... however, it's no where near as bad as almost any other mmorpg.
The Secret World is actually great for not really doing this.
Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? Because I hate what humanity does with this one.
I must be a pig because I REALLY like attractive females and have no issue with sexy armor. Yep, I am a horrible person along with every other writer, movie maker, artist, and clothing designers throughout history that appreciates female beauty. This is a fantasy game so get over it.
The clothing for the femaies was actually designed by females so I don't see an issue
of course. and those female designers in the interest of saving their jobs had no external design pressures put upon them by the game, the developers, or even the generally sexist attitudes of most of the industry.

When I think oversexualized I think Asian games like Tera, not GW2. Though the women can look good, I don't think they're sexualized let alone oversexualized. It's quite decent as far as MMO's go. In short, there are far worse out there and GW2 just isn't a good example of this.
All women I know love to dress their characters the most sexy way possible. They want to look hot. No matter if they are old or young in real life, their characters would be as sexy as possible.
[mod edit]
I think that many people on these forums have no idea that many of the sexy dressed characters and Aelins are real women. Some are women 60 years old. Generalization works bad both ways. Is not my problem if you don't know any woman that play mmos.
The next MMO will be awesome. Until people reach the end game.
How could I not vote, "I like boobies!"? On a more serious note, I don't find the clothing/armor in GW2 as bad and oversexualized as many other games I have played. Thinking back on it, I feel most of the outfits I have seen on female characters looked pretty normal, or what I would expect of each race in a fantasy setting.

I'd agree that Cromica's argument is silly, but I think you're condescending to the artist with that sarcasm. Have you known many ovaried character artists in order to come to this notion, I wonder.

My first thought upon seeing that was, "She looks like an elementalist." So which poll option do I choose?
That all depends on how much you like boobies.
You know you like boobies.
Just do it.

Disappointed that ANet is going back to this style. Thought they'd do a lot better than that.
