I would put it 300,000-500,000 players, when subs kick in many will leave, when GW2 comes out many will leave so subscribers will suffer.
Not as many as are playing SWTOR or aion today because it is lower on xfire after the xfire fix.
Eve online has 400,000 subscribers and TSW is a bit above that but you have to count that since it is month 1 for TSW players play longer. Eve has more players on xfire is just they don't play as much as the game is 8 years old or so. So 300,000 to 350,000 players is my best guess. A far cry from 1.3 million projected by funcom. All AAA MMOs debut in the top 5 because of player's play time and AAA MMOs tend to sell a million so top 5 or close is expected, TSW is not close at all..
Here we go with the xfire junk again I do not know a single person who uses that
It seems to get more crowded every day. I would say the pop is growing based on word of mouth. I have no idea what the total numbers are, but I see dozens of people everywhere I go. It is very difficult, even when I stray far off the path, to go even a minute without seeing at least a few people.
Chat scrolls super quick, so much so that it is about impossible to follow a conversation. I really wish they would allow us to color the channels different colors for just that reason.

You're wasting your time. For some reason, if you're using XFire numbers, you get to throw lots of rules out the window. I'm not sure why.

How many people do you know that primarliy speak mandarin/chinese? 1 our of 6 earthlings do. One of the last few month's Neo Geo mag had a huge section dedicated to language, was cool. The point is that xfire has 21 million ragistered users and around 1-2 million users per day.

TSW averages 915 xfire users per day and thats WITH the option to install xfire during TSW set up. Xifre is a shitty way to determine the games popularity and player base numbers.

And in statistical theory, sampling from a small segment indicator such as xfire, is flawed as it is not representative of an entire potential base. It can be argued that for every 1 xfire user there are 20 non-xfire users. So while xfire stats are great to see how well a game is performing within that specific community, its not truely indicative of how well the game is performing through out the entire gaming community.

No one understands the power of X fire like Funcom, most of the other games have companies who could not care less about x fire. Funcom advertises there and hold incentives or intices players to use it.
It likely fails just as much from one game to another, I don't know. It seems fixed. If it works for many players I bet it works for all.
Simple logic allows me to disreguard it. Though it seems off as 8,000 xfire players would be needed to be in the top 8 and it has around 1,000. Not sure but it is on Funcom to repair things.
As Funcom have a habit of keeping sales figures to themselves I doubt you will ever get an accurate representation, no matter what method you adopt. Buying the game gives you a month free, so you will have no real idea of how many people are playing until about six months. But overall the game can still be successful with a select number of players, AOC managed for long enough.
Overall I doubt this launch matches other MMO's, I get a a sort of artificial buzz about TSW. None of the figures I have seen point to anything more than a mediocre launch at best.
TSW just jumped up to 16 on Xfire, passing AION and Halo. AION is setting at about 2.5 million world wide. This does not mean TSW has 2.5 million, but it does mean Xfire users are logging many more hours per person on TSW.
I think they just got it working with todays maintenance. Steady rising faster than what I would have thought

Was a jump yesterday too, is why I figured it was working. Maybe it will jump again tommorow and Funcom will have a rally. I even expected it to be higher. Like you say more people play longer hours, so it is expected to be higher.
My only critisisms were combat and can it keep players. players are already clearing the hardest difficulties of instances after plowing through the 8 zones.
Aion is much like WoW, most of the players are from asia, where they don't use Xfire. WoW probably only has 3-4 million players in Europe and USA, or whatever as 2/3 at least are in asia. Starcraft and some other games are like that.
I wish I lived in asia as the internet in south korea, Taiwan, Japan, and some other places is much better than anywhere else in the world.

Over 1 million pre-orders as Funcom have admitted - I assume here in these first weeks they are all playing.
Perhaps wait a month or three before you doom, gloom and start throwing around lowball numbers. At least then you might be getting close to the truth rather than spouting nonsense like a fool.

Cool, guess I will have to merry a slovakia or czech republic girl for her Internet speed, that way I don't come off superficial. Still are more gamers in asia, and online lag is my concern.

Correction, the fastest interntet speed is WITHin Slovakia. Big difference. A Slovakian connecting to national IPs and within the continent is going to be faster, but crossing the atlantic, there are no faster international lines than the one to the Netherlands. The Netherlands also has 2 of the world's DNS servers.
Of western developed countries, Portugal and Italy are the worst.

Another thing on the xFire argument. if there were 1 million per-orders then I can guess most of them played on at least one of the beta weekends and updated their client to the release version. These people didn't get the option to install Xfire on set up since it didn't give the option back then (didn't for me, at least).
