The only thing I am concered about is Pve...all the articles I have read are pvp based. Will there be a lot to do

in pve ? I am not super fan of pvp but do it when I have to but I love pve and grouping for it ..is this sort of thing built into

gw2?

I wanted to know from players who got into the bwe events for my info

Yeah OP. GW2 as far more pve content than pvp (dont even get why people call this game a pvp mmo like PS2). There's tons and tons of info on wikis, blog posts, videos, everything. There's dynamic events, personall story, dungeons and minigames. Seriously, i have to wonder if you're trolling because the info is quite literally everywhere.

I won't give you spoilers, but I am almost a 100% PvE person and I have loved my 4 chances playing the game so far. Yes, there are some cool quests, there are a TON of quests that don't involve fighting anything which means if you like to explore out past your level, you can still find things to do and get good XP doing them.

There are a lot of quests where the goal is to help a community with multiple methods to do that, some of which aren't always obvious.

Most quests auto complete for you, so there is no need to go talk to someone. There are a few "gather" type quests with turn-ins, but in everyone I've done the turn in person has been close to the quest (and they didn't turn around and say "Ok, now get 10 more), and all the ones I've seen have been open to everyone in the area, meaning if 50 of something need to be gathered you get credit for what you turn in, but it ends at 50 no matter who turns them in.

Ok, I've already said more than I should, the short answer is YES.

Sure, htere are plenty of good vids to watch about it.

Totalbiscuit give us his opinion here: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=totalbuscuit%20gw2%20thief&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CEgQtwIwAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DA8-9VEvAmFg&ei=u1L8T6zpLM2O4gS3gviABw&usg=AFQjCNFGPHSVMH6a4ZxXiHvd2YOYBtjtEw

The PvE is interesting because it tells stories in a different way from regular questbased MMOs. The basic mechanics are not that different but it feels like a new experience anyways.

however, heart quests are not DEs as some people think and they are more or less regular repeatable quests.

DEs otherwise do not force you to have played a earlier event on the chain like quests, you don´t have to accept most of them, they scale and you can choose to do one or several of the options in most case.

If you want something less linear and more about exploration GW2s open world will fit you fine.

However the main PvE thing in GW2 are the dungeons, they are tough, interesting and full of traps and the DEs have taken most of the spotlight so far.

There will be some betakeys released before next BWE and it is said to be a free try weekend before launch, try it out. PvP have gotten a lot of focus lately but if you were here a year ago all the focus was on the PvE.

  • MattVidMattVid Member Posts: 399

Yes, there is crap loads to do in PvE. 95% of the world area is all PvE. There are only a few PvP arenas and then the large World vs. World area for PvP. For every level range, there should be 3-5 zones for you to complete content in. There should be plenty to do, and different stuff to do, even playing through the game on multiple characters.

Due to the dynamic events, even when leveling in the same zone on a different character in the BWE, it felt completely different. There is definitely a lot of PvE content in the game.

Yeah it has good pve, much better than wow clone pve imo.

However this game will not appeal to hardcore pve progression types at all.

Which is probably why I like its pve.

So far from what I've heard. The dungeons which are the closest thing to raids are only 5 man. Where PvP WvW means that there's going to be a lot of members.

So I'm thinking that PvE is in smaller coordinated groups. Which PVP and WvW is in a MASSIVE scale.

Doesn't mean one is better than the other.

Go to youtube, type Guild Wars 2 Dynamic Events and you'll find tons of videos about interesting DEs. Search for Guild Wars 2 puzzles  and you'll get videos of the jumping-puzzle dungeons, search for Guild Wars 2 Ascalonian Catacombs and there are tons of vids of that place

Here is what i'm curious about though!

So what about these dragons? Are they open world bosses? If so, why couldn't you have raids of 100-200 people?

I can't confirm (nor deny) but I don't see why this wouldn't be possible. I don't know if the dragons are in the main zones, but if they are, then you should have one BA boss that takes more than 5 people to drop...

    Anyone know anything about it?

The closest thing to "raids" are the big boss encounters in my opinion, like the Shatterer which requires lots of players to fight. For the lower levels there are bosses like the Shadow Behemoth, hopefully they'll fix the scaling and will become an interesting encounter again, now it is too easy. Other Champion monsters spawn during DEs and provide a nice challenge for big groups, often they require some work from the players as well, they don't just spawn around.

Not hating Antshock. It's just that the majority of GW2's content is by far pve oriented. The game is atleast 90% pve. Almost all info points to tons of information on events, dungeons, and even exploring the pve part of Tyria. That's why i'm so suprised that you don't know. it almost feels like your trolling, when you say this is a pvp game. So offense of course. But, well, that clears it up.

    That is kinda wrong.

Instanced stuff is for a few people, both instanced 5Vs5 PvP and dungeons.

But DEs scale and some of them can take over 100 players at the same time. as long as you are in the open world you can play together with a huge group if you so prefer, or run solo or with a few players in not so crowded areas.

The mists is open world PvP (well, kinda, it is a smaller world by itself at least) while the rest of the open world is about PvE. Both of them are massive.

Simply, I won´t give you info that ruin your GW2 experience because it is always better to do it urself. However I wanna mention, as ppl have already did, that GW2 has much to offer pve-players and that dynamic world that the whole globe is hyped about is actually for u to experience and to fall in love with.

GW2 was created to make a revolution and so far, even people who are not that interested of GW, have already given thier opinion that the game is '' great ''. I would recommend it even if it wasn´t as great as it seems to be, though it does.

I never noticed any, but YMMV. As the game was still running mostly off CPU last we saw, it's hard to get a feel for how it will really perform just yet.

To give you a hopefully unbiased answer to the original question you're likely to get:

GW2 has six kinds of PvE "quests".

    1. Hearts: Static, location, one-time only quests. You get to a location and are asked to help an NPC. You usually have multiple ways to go about this. You could help a farmer, for instance, by fighting off bandits..or by watering his crops. it's up to you how you choose to complete these.
    2. Soloable Dynamic Events: Semi-spontatneous events that can be triggered by speaking to an NPC, or jsut go off at a certain time. Many of these, pass or fail, open up further DEs. For instance, if you fail to repel a centaur attack, they'll destroy a village. You then get a DE to retake the village, or perhaps to rebuild something that was damaged. The difficulty scales somewhat to the number of people in the area.
    3. Group Dynamic Events: These require at least a full group's worth of people (5). Some require far more than that, but scale to the number of players much like solo DEs. some of these turn into slugfests against giant drgons and other monsters.
    4. Personal Story Quests: When you roll a character, you are asked a brief questionnaire about your characters personality and history. These determine your character's story, what NPCs he knows at the start, etc. While initially there's only a few choices, each of these PS quests has moments that branch, meaning your experience could be different from someone else's that made the same inital answers based on what you do later. Don't expect the level of  choice to be on par with any of Bioware's better games, but they do have an impact, and some are quite fun. Stories also tend to be a bit predictable, but the dialogue is occasionally entertianing.
    5. Skill Challenges: These involve undertaking some sort of task (Usually fighting a difficult enemy) to award a skill point, which can then used to buy skills. Each zone has a handful of these.
    6. Hidden Exploration/Jumping puzzles: These aren't really documented on the map or the scouts, unlike everything else. While exploring the world, you may find hidden areas and jumping puzzles that can provide great rewards if you succeed.
Now, as to what you're DOING on these quests.

If you're imagining doing something completely new unlike anything ever before, stop right now. Most events involve either "Kill baddies until the progress bar fills", "gather stuff until the bar fills", "Escort horribly fragile NPCs", or the like. Esentially, the same types of quests that have existed since games HAD quests. And that's OK. They tend to be fast paced, and combat is quick and challenging enough that I personally never felt like "Oh god, gotta go kill 10 more rats.." especially in DEs, because you don't always know what will happen when you complete one. To me, it's not that GW2 did something new; more that they took something old and made it actually fun. My real advice is play it, see if you enjoy it too, and go from there.

I've never had any lag issues with 50-100+ ppl around me. The engine can handle that and much more I reckon when it's fully optimised.

That's exactly what they did. Also note that a lot of events/quests have you do almost all those things in one Event for options.
