Free straightforward Game

ShorunShorun Member UncommonPosts: 247

Hey guys I'm looking for a really straightforward free fantasy mmorpg. Though it seems simple I have problems finding a good one (there are hundreds).

The game should:

- have fluid combat and animations (the combat system can be standard or action, I don't care)

- feature a fantasy setting

- have interesting classes

- not be a potion-hell (I really like the way WoW does it)

- have an open world

- have some dungeons

- have PvP (either open or instanced)

- have a decent playerbase and a pretty fair cash shop/VIP-model

The closest thing I found was Eden Eternal, but the potions in this game were a no-go for me. I was always carrying around 200 potions at a time.

I also liked Allods online, but I didn't meet any other players, which was weird. I also heard the cash shop was kind of unfair.

Can you recommend a good game?

Runes of Magic and Guild Wars 2 come to mind... .

I tried RoM and it was okay. But I didn't like the 2 class system and the controls felt...uncontrolled. The movement with the WASD keys really sucked.

    But thanks for the advice!

Lord of the Rings Online was the first one that popped into my head.  I have a  lifetime subscription so I'm not too sure about how fair the cash shop is, but I don't hear many complain about it.  I think the quest packs are like $6 if I remember right.  They always have sales going on too, so you can wait til a quest back goes on sale, sometimes it's 75% off.  Really you only have to buy 3 maybe for quest packs, and then usually they have a deal where if you buy the latest expansion (which is upcoming rohan) they'll give you the quests for Moria, Lothlorien, Mirkwood, and dunland (the past expansions) for free.  I do like the classes and there's alot of people that still play.  Brandywine is for non-rp, but if you're like me and want to RP and hang out with friends at the pony, then you'll want Landroval.  lotro has the largest rp playerbase in anygame right now I'm pretty sure.

It's not really free, and any of its content does not really qualify as open world since everything is instanced, but how about Guild Wars 1?

LOTRO was kinda decent but the combat was so slow and unfluid. It also hasn't got much dungeons.

I played Guild Wars 1 for a long time and it was great, but then again, it hasn't got an open world. My account is now blocked because I tried to pay with an outdated credit card. They could have given me a warning that the credit card is outdated (I didn't notice it) - but no, they just block my account. NCSoft support is the worst. Worse than in any f2p game I've seen.

But again, thanks for your help.

PS: Finding a really GOOD simple standard f2p mmorpg seems kinda hard.
