The misplaced sense of entitlement amongst young gamers these days is absolutely disgusting.
Is the mount faster than anything you find in-game or as a veteran reward?
If so, then I could understand the outrage. If it's merely a cosmetic 'advantage' then please spare me this "I pay $15 a month - I should be entitled to everything" bs.
So they shouldn't be able ot sell hats and other merchandise because you pay $15 a month for a sub/ Please get off your high horse with this $15 a month BS. I'm sure you spend more in one night at McDonalds!
This misplaced sense that paying $15 a month means you are entitled to anything and everything the company produces is so misplaced that I would be embarrased to publicly state as much. Get over yourself.
considering this sub + cash shop isn't too old, i would question who the young gamer is. there were games before WoW.
Dancing around arguments like a true youngster, thanks for not disappointing. You still have yet to answer whether or not the mount is faster or any way better than these other mounts outside of cosmetics. You say it's "better", yet fail to inform how.
It's virtual merchandise. Game producers have sold merchandise for ages now, it's only recently that there has been a shift to virtual merchandise. It's still the same concept.
Using your completely bogus and whiney reasoning companies shouldn't be allowed to sell shirts and action figures either. I mean, since you pay $15 a month, you should be entitled to anything they produce, right? Cry more.
Whether you're young or old making references to age and posturing as though you speak from authority makes for an idiotic argument. Just drop that. It makes you sound silly. I'm not young by any means and that has nothing to do with my position on the issue at hand.
Trion has billed the game as an entertainment service. In many interviews (search for them if you want to read what is said - some are on this site) they've touted how their 'pay for' service model is superior.
Sure a lot of companies are double dipping with the sub + microtransactions. What's the sub paying for if not for the development of the game? If they're going to double dip then it's probably time to drop them like every other p2p game company. If I have to pay a sub and still buy more pieces of the game through microtransactions then I might as well just go fully F2P.
Dude, you are 100% correct and I cannot understand anyone supporting this.
Yes, in 5 years there will be the best Items and Weapons in the game at a RMAH (or Ca$h $hop)- I actually anticipate Cash Shops for single player gamnes now that the new systems will be DL only.
The folks saying "young people" are angry over this are sadly mistaken- Its us ancient folks who supported these companies and this hobby for so long who are leaving in droves since our hobby has become monitized to the extent it has.
And all the supporters of this are sadly encouraging this behavior and are its cause (really) and any Gaming Company out there is watching this and trying to decide how far they can push it- Slowly adding more and more... I have been done with MMOs for some time (although I have tried several in the last few years) and honestly the only people woth supporting right now are Indies.
I HAVE found a game- Although its a niche game. I hope you find yours as well.
Good points from you in this thread- And you are correct. Time will prove you right (Hell Necro some threads from a few years ago and watch who was right and who was not-( Triple dipping? Never...lol)

So it's: "If you're not with us you're against us"?
I've never bought a single item from a cash store. I also don't have a problem with how WOW and Rift have added microtransactions.I don't like P2W stores, but if people want to buy fluff items have at it.Once a company crosses the line, ala Turbine, then I'll spend my money elsewhere.

No. I do not mean to imply that at all.
Its that they are slowly Boiling a Frog so that it acclimates to the warmth and cannot tell its being cooked.
I have no problems with Cash Shops. In fact I am playing a game with one (but its a truly free game- no limits on free accounts, etc.) Its the double and triple dipping even with cosmetics (I do not raid, I like cosmetic items and finding cool looking stuff) so RPers and people who like fluff are being told that we have to sub and pay Cash Shop prices for our "Fluff" (I play the games for fluff)
I would prefer a sub which includeds all- I cannot understand how people are okay with Cash Shops plus Sub fee. I quit WOW over it (not that they care) and havnt had a game due to this blatant monetization until last week.
IP2W items are coming- Everywhere. Even in your Single Player games... I have been modding Morrowind for years and can reskin/texture and make cosmetic items by myself in a few hours (they look very good as well)- So the time it takes to make cool "fluff" is miniscule and yet they are asking a good deal of money for something which shold come in game anyhow.
-Its a losing battle. I understand this- So your support or lack therof means nothing in the scope of things...Its where our hobby is headed.
If Trion was greedy there are about a billion other things they could have charged for.
They have free, unlimited weekly server transfers.
Last patch they added in an game NPC where you can remake your hair, face, etc
These are all things other MMO's charge massive fees for.
So Trion added 1 mount that was previously only part of the korean pre order for sale. Big whoop.
People really need to stop whining so much.
THIS^^^^^^^^^^
Is the attitude and support which is killing our Hobby. Thank you for a good example.
QUIT WHINING- Already done buddy, I have left the AAA MMO world and am 1 less persons voice to the outcry when +200 sword of death hits YOUR MMO's Cashh Shop.
In fact, there are less voices crying out now over the BS as they acclimate you to the future of gaming... Like the EA guy said in an interview "Once the player has an hour in the game, he doesnt think about pressing PLEASE Pay $1.00 to reload his ammo clip"
Its where its all going brother. More people should be "Whining" and voting with their dollars to not support this shit- But they wont.
/whine off
EDIT- EA's CEO John Riccitiello has a curious way to "sell" the digital future of videogames. In a recent declarations he said that players won't mind to pay 1$ for a clip reload when playing Battlefield, for example.
According to Riccitello when he was interviewed by xbox360achievements:
When you are six hours into playing Battlefield and you run out of ammo in your clip and we ask you for a dollar to reload, you’re really not that price sensitive at that point in time,” he stated.
So essentially what ends up happening, and the reason the play-first, pay-later model works nicely, is a consumer gets engaged in a property. They may spend ten, twenty, thirty, fifty hours in a game. And then, when they’re deep into a game, they’re well invested in it.
At that point in time the commitment can be pretty high. It’s a great model and it represents a substantially better future for the industry.
