A long read. But entertaining none-the-less.

"Fear not death; for the sooner we die, the longer shall we be immortal."

I read that quite a while ago.

Now that I look at it, I can't believe I read it all in one sitting.

For those of you not interested in reading this...

Its a story about a high end eve online scam involving sophisitcated social engineering (getting people to trust you). It is VERY well written and I to read it in one sitting as the authors style was engaging and I really wish who ever wrote this would write a few books for me to read.  the end reminded me of shakespeare in that you always ask, "why didn't THIS happen, if it would have everything would have been ok.

In the end I wanted mr investor number 1 to get the rewards instead of how it played out.  Don't want to ruin it for anyone who hasn't read.

98% of the teenage population does or has tried smoking pot. If you''re one of the 2% who hasn''t, copy & paste this in your signature.

I'm not sure where you get the god reference, it's not in the story or in any preceding post.  I am going to assume you were making a random theological statement:P

For those interested I found the story behind the corporation named the scammers used while convincing the investors in eve online to give them the money involved.

It's just one of those little things that are funny... if ONE investor had remembered the largest stock scam (maybe it wasn't but arguable the most famous... not that i had any idea about it before google enlightened me.) of the 80's this might not have occured.

I agree with Vampyr. I have horrible faith in humanity (and I am atheist, just referring to the god statement earlier). One of my favorite quotes that I've said (yes I quote myself)

"Everyone's stupidity will bring the death of me!"

I think he is a bit optimistic in this part:

"I stared at the balance long and hard. 480,000,000. I was lost in thought, imagining all the possibilities that half a billion credits would bring me. Images of splendor and prosperity flashed in my head, rapid fire. I would be the commander of a fleet of battleships, and a harem of beautiful women would fawn over me every second of the day. And even if I were to die, they would resort to having lesbian sex with each other in front of my 40 foot shrine, forever worshipping my wealth in this life and beyond. The CEOs of the largest corporations and the GMs of the biggest servers would heel before my command, and I would have absolute dominion over every last atom in the universe."

Absolutely right.  Rich or poor, a lot of people find a way or excuse to be miserable.  Money is only the main tool to their self destruction.
