Whats everyone's thoughts on the Auto Balance System? Apparently it can yank you off the Blue team and put you on the Red team and vise versa during the game......Would you be happy that youll get more "epic" battles? or upset that you worked hard to cap points for the wrong team?
I dont like it. - I thought world vs. world, meant just that. Now it seems it just means; any mechanic that can perpetuate and unending battle with not real point to dedicating effort to your team. - If I make a ton of effort but have been yanked to another team, isnt my contribution going towards another home world than my own? - I dont understand this. I have to experience how this works to really get my head around it. It is the first sign I've seen that GW2 and arenanet dropped the ball on any aspect in the game - for me atleast.
As far as I knew, there would be world calibration every reset, so that the strongest servers were in the same pool, and faced off with eachother. This ofcourse would need a little time to really get tuned, untill some performance history was logged, but this idea of having no real loyalty, and no means of staying with the people you've gotten to know on your own server, if your server is starting to get members janked out to the enemy teams. Its just weird. Something must be lost in translation;
How could a bunch of people sitting in a room, discuss this and agree it was a great idea. Its just bizare.
I think you are misunderstanding. This never happens in WvW. This only happens in structured PvP which is like battlegrounds in other games.
Yeah, thanks for confirming that. I had just edited my post after a quick googlygoo. I dont mind for the structured pvp, but then Im asuming this is on a volunteer basis, otherwise how can people prevent getting janked out of their friendly group session pvp?

Having just watched a few hours of very boring press beta WvWvW, where it was almost exclusively one-sided, I think I could go for the auto-balance system. It would be annoying to be "about to capture" something only to be yanked, but I'd be willing to put up with it if it kept things lively. Although it seems WvWvW is one place it doesn't occur, so it won't help me there.
"hot join" matche's arn't as casual as people make them out to be......for alot of people its the most fun (PVP wise) mmo's have to offer.....
ALOT of people will be doing sPVP matches exclusivly......including myself
I think you could find problems using the auto balance such as if im getting yanked from teams alot then im going to say the hell with capping points, im going to just fight......I really dont want to see this happen
The only issue I have with it is that it takes you away from your friends. As long as they make it so that it prioritizes people playing with friends to not be moved first, ect I am "okay" with it. It is not one of my favorite features, but I understand why it exists. If this is what it takes to keep teams balanced I can live with it. If you are playing with your friends you will want to do tournament mode most of the time anyways, which will not have auto balancing.
It's fine because it would be a bad experience to play 5v2 matches. However, it should take whichever player contributed the least from the opposing team. I haven't really paid attention to whether it selects someone at random or someone based on how they are doing, but if you are the MVP for your team and then you get switched it's pretty lame. Do it right and switch the least useful player thus far in the game.

I really like that idea.....That way if you working your ass off to win, you won't be hurt by being forced to change teams.....
Also the team winning won't lose there BEST player and in the end lose because of it....
It probably yanks someone to the other team if people all say no they don't want to move or something. Personally I am not a fan of this because if I go in there with a friend or with part of my premade I want to work with them not against them.
It can be annoying, yes. Hopefully there is an option for that for custom games. Some things to clear up:
- sPvP is meant for balanced, 5 on 5 player match ups. Most games shouldn't need auto-balancing. It mostly happens in casual matchups.
- You don't get experience for sPvP. You do get currency to spend on better looking stuff from glory vendors. Auto-balance may be a way of dealing w/ people trying to farm this. Not sure. It is not meant as a means for lvling.
- You can setup your own custom sPvP games, not unlike a standard FPS game.
- There is no auto-balancing in WvW.
sPvP is basically like a FPS version of the game. It's it's own separate feature and has zero impact on the rest of the game. It's centered around balanced matches. While it is a pain if you're the one getting switched, I don't imagine this will be that big of a deal in the long run. It will still bug me, but I enjoy more balanced games (even if I am the one getting switched), than constantly joining matches in which one side is heavily stacked.
But do you have to cap points in bf3? not sure since i never played it
Also winning a game in GW2 would give you more xp right? so ide want to win everytime
What I mean is that other games have done this before and I don't think they rly have an issue with this, also bf3 give you more points/xp for winning (obvious)...
If the auto balancing happened during a match I've received a prompt asking to volunteer for it every time during BWE2, but it happened automatically wihtout prompt a few times for me when the match was over and finding myself in the other team for the next match.
I can see that it might suck when you are bout to win a game and get swithed to the other team but this system is in place to balance teams. Would you rather remove it and end up playing games where it happens to be 1vs5 or 2vs5?
Many games especially shooters also do this but they usually don't even ask for volunteers. The only thing i would like to see is some kind of punishment for leaving games early to reduce the amount of people leaving games before the end.
well man i want to play with my 2 friend in a squad in shooter if we get switch over all the fun go away,
same with guild wars 2 , your playing a match with 2 of ur friend and all of sudden ur switch over..
so stupid
i know that we need a balancing system because 5 vs 2 its lame and boring for the other team.
we are going to see alot of quitting in pvp match. and alot of unbalanced team because of that. i bet its wont take long that arenanet will put penality if some1 quit during a match similar to wow.
~The only opinion that matters is your own.Everything else is just advice,~
Well, in beta, there is no point in penaltising people for leaving - for all you know, it might be server/client's fault, not the player's fault, that he got DC. Getting DC cos of a bug and THEN getting deserter for like 20 minutes is awful (ask people who play SMITE). So i understand why they dont penaltise the leavers.
However, in release, if hot-join sPVP doesnt have an option to play with your friend(s) on one team without any auto yanking one of you to the other team, it will be an epic fail. I dont think ArenaNet will overlook this.
On auto balance, the idea is good, but forced team balance must be limited.
1) For once, it is stupid to be balanced when one team is already far ahead. When its up to the point when one team can just keep defending and win, putting someone on the losing team is nonsence.
2) Second, it actually makes you try LESS until auto-balance happens. Its something like Battlestar Galactica tabletop game, where you are not actively helping humans even if you're human, because all you know, you may become a cylon in the second part of the game.
This is just wrong all around.
The idea of auto-balance is good. But it must not be penaltising players. Players must not be punished for something they are not guilty in. I know modern games tend to not punish players for anything because of crybabies and instant gratification, and i agree thats too far, but players should never be punished for something they are not responsible for. No punishment should be without player's fault!
If you played hard, then you get autobalanced off to a losing team, and lose because you actually played well for another team, and get a lose and loser's spoils (points, tokens, whatever is provided for participation), then you got punished for no reason.
If you joined with a friend, and one of you got autobalanced off to another team, you get punished for no reason.
They should make the asshats pay that leave a game halfway the seccond they recognise they are on the loosing team.
Now it feels like the good boys pay the price because of the deeds of the bad boys.
The hot join system forces you to leave yourself whenever you feel like it. Of course it sucks if folks leave due to being on the loosing team but because it's a neverending cycle of matches until you leave yourself it's hard to determine that.
I've played sPvP for a couple of hours during BWE2 and at some points I noticed I was starting to loose focus and become very tired due to being in there for too long without a break so at some point I just left without even paying attention to the scoreboard instead of going afk in the middle of a match. That way I freed up a spot for aplyer who would probably be in better shape.
I'll wait for clarification from someone who follows this game more closely. Cause that sounds too stupid to be real.
No, what OP states is correct.
NOt entirely you can still refuse if it is such a problem to you, they ask you if you want to swap or not (i'm pretty sure you can see that in spvp vids). Also i'm pretty sure the end calculation take into account what you did in the first team, i'm not sure though, this probably would need confirmation.
I mean yes it's a bit anoying, but that's really it. Nothing to cry about...
PS i'll rather have that than the "leaver" total non sense in Lol.

It also only happens in Instant/Hot-Join sPvP, not in Tournaments.
We don't yet know if it is one of the parameters we can set on custom servers either.

You don't get ANY XP from sPvP so it's more about participation. Hot-Join is a "Casual" mode.
If you really want to play with your friends you will either (a) play Tournaments (b) set up your own sPvP Server
They should make the asshats pay that leave a game halfway the seccond they recognise they are on the loosing team.
