DayZ-Drama: "DayZ Admin Staff pisses off Community"

FadedbombFadedbomb Member Posts: 2,081

So I come home from work today to the news that quite a few server owners got blacklisted today after refusing to follow through with a bureaucratic process of ticket handling to ban individual players from servers that the DayZ staff are NOT paying for.

In other words if you find a hacker (blatantly obvious in the logs) & ban them you have to create an individual ticket WITH PROOF provided for said player to the dayZ staff to approve or risk your server being perminantly blacklisted from the DayZ server cluster.

The forums were lit AFLAME after the staff essentially threatened server owners after a very honest & innocent question that went into mayhem afterwards :I.

Enjoy

Personally, this is normally how an amazing game like DayZ dies.....bad staff.

This used to be a problem, and apparently still is, with admins who wield absolute power.

They start kicking players who play better than them, players who are a different race/religion/gender than themself, players who are new and are "letting the side down", or even players that are trying to lead a team to victory the admin or their friends are not on. Ive seen admins constantly kick players until they are MVP at end of round just to get a ribbon. Ive seen them kick because another player got a tank/plane before they spawned. Seen them do it because the person on voice channels is a kid.

Looks like Dayz are just trying to regulate admins so they dont abuse their powers and ruin the community. Thats IS how an amazing game begins to die - bad admins.

So federal law trumps state law...what's the problem here? So that I'm getting this correctly, people who host the client on their personal servers cannot ban players from playing the client without proof and fowarding a ticket to the makers of said client? Again I'm not seeing a problem here unless people who host servers want to play god.

Bad admins does not impact this game at all.

With +3000 servers where your character is not bound to a server there is no excuse to just go to another place.

I understand this concern in games like Enemy Territory, where your levels and advancment is saved server-side on the local server and if you get banned, you need to restart your progress from zero.

    But here? Silly.

In DayZ the community should be self-policing not the devs blacklisting servers.

Because the only thing you get is a fragmented community with the end-state of battle.net ca. 2000.

Where on the closed servers people hack. on the open servers they hack more. and on lan its bonanza.

Can you even imagine if you had to file a ticket for cheating/hacking to the developers as an admin with 3k players on a server?

Ridiculous. Nothing would ever get done if DayZ staff needs to investigate every ban first.

People are paying money to keep the servers up and running, why should they be penalized for running the game as they want, using the penalties they want?

Like I said, with 3k servers there is no excuse, you don't like the server/admin you are playing on? Move on.

Not all 3000 servers can be all bad and have bad admins.

Bad admins does not impact the game because bad admins gets a consequence for abusing their power. That's why bad admins isn't an issue right now.

Renting a server costs money and with that should come some rights and priveledges I agree with that. The problem is, there are next to no official servers. They are all run by the community. Without harsh rules set on server owners, there indeed would be anarchy. You say 3000 servers can't all have bad admins but that's intirely irrelevant. If 250+ servers have bad admins it's enough to impact the game very negatively (250 is just a random numer like yours i put out there). These bad admins/clans have access to a hive server, that lets them go to other servers and cause havoc with the gear they could  have acumilated, with no risk to themselves from other players just as an example.

As a paying server admin possibly a paying clan member, I can perfectly understand why people want things such as reserved spots and the right to kick players to make room for their paying clan members, but again the problem is there is no way for the Day Z staff or anybody for that matter, to determine what is a rightful kick or a kick just because the admin died to a random player or one of his clan players did. There's even stories of admins locking a server so they can go back and retrieve their loot. A zero tolerance is not the best solution but right now there is no better alternative that protects the average player who joins random servers.

I wouldn't rent one simply because, it doesn't even garuntee you a free spot being an admin which IMO should be a basic right. Then again this is all stated before people make the choice of renting one, so you and others can simply opt out if you feel it's not worth the money or the hassle. Nobody is forcing anybody to rent anything

This is pretty much spot on, also it is not like you are given free reign to create a server, at this point in time you have to make an agreement and be given permission by the DayZ team to host a server, when you agree to that and unless the agreement was changed or breached, you knew very well upfront that they can enforce these rules.

Anyone investing their own cash on a server is completely irrelevant to them accepting a contract that essentially allows them to run a DayZ server under the terms and conditions decided upon by the DayZ team.

They are obviously moving towards a system with strict rules which I agree with due to the very nature of DayZ where, even having a server with password can impact very negatively the whole game if the group running it has bad intentions.
