... after this weekends beta weekend I have to say that I am having serious withdrawal issues.

It's not so much that I were overly amazed and impressed by everything and anything. Sure, character creation was nice. The intros awesome and the classes interesting. The world was diverse and beautiful and a lot of skills were down right awesome. The DE's were fun and intruiging and I found myself always rushing over to them. The character story was better written than what I had believed, and I really enjoyed it.

I'll agree a bit with the people saying GW2 is nothing really 'new' or special - a lot of what's in there has been done before in one way or another. I will, however, say that I believe GW2 takes used concepts and put a little twist on them and do them very very well.

And foremost: GW2 do them Well, it cannot be emphasized enough. Which, some people may say, really doesn't say anything - but in the end that's kind of what WoW did when it first came out as well.

I weren't really hyped about this game at all and found the setting kind of meh even if the races were nice. I weren't really impressed from what I heard about DE's or the 5 skills at a time combat. But I crave this game now. I need it. It's in my blood.

... I have no idea how to survive until release.......

It's what we use to call "the Guild Wars 2 effect". Welcome to the club.

Tried to do my PvP daily in WoW this morning, but the battlegrounds seem so dull compared to World vs World that I just couldn't.

Yea I agree OP.  GW2 has alot of aspects that were components of other mmo's and does them all simply and intelligently.  The only things I would like to see in the game are seemless zone transitions and unrestricted weapon and armor choices for every class. I would also like to see more quests that involve some problem solving like TSW.   I really enjoy the exploration aspect of the game.  The world is large and full of jumping puzzles and neat little hidden areas with unique mobs.  All in all a pretty good game.

No offense but Ive seen this several times here AND ONLY HERE on this forum.  No other MMO website says this about GW2.  For once I would like to see why YOU think it isnt anything new.

Instead of repeating the same ad-hominum attack why not state why you feel this way.

I've said this before, but I'll say it again. Any GW2 fan can list a series of features or personal reasons, the reality is, however, that the sum is greater than its parts and results in a great (and to many addictive) gameplay experience that I haven't felt in a while.

"Reasons" why people feel this way won't change their experience in any way, if people play it and don't like it then so be it. It's quite simply not for them.

Edit: misread your post somehow. Apologies. Still, reply valid as to how I feel abotu the topic with minimal editing.

    1. Why you would think this at all is an attack, especially when I'm basicly saying that I love the game, I do not understand. I am not using it as an argument to why GW2 is 'bad' or 'sucky' etc.

    2. Races are new takes on old concepts (elf - sylvari, asura - gnome, human - human, charr - orcish/brute race, norn - barbarian). Classes are quite self explanatory. The game is at it's core a themepark with themepark enviorment - not a bad thing, but it has been done. Skills getting learned by using a weapon has been done. Different weapon giving different attacks has been done. DE's are practically Rifts from the game with the same name etc. etc.

This is how I, personally, view it. Again, doesn't have to be a bad thing.

    3. Even if I, personally, believe GW2 to consist of stuff used in other games it's still extremely well done and most of it is even 'kicked up a notch'. New twists to existing concepts can be very successful (just look at the whole conept of 'Heroes journey' in storytelling instances).

    4. I will concede that there are two things that are quite new (to me): The fighting when down aspect, even though it reminds me of the left 4 dead series, and the fact that gear has very little impact on your progression - both which are welcome additions to the MMO market.

I hope this clears up my views a bit better.

I agree, and I'd like to see that as well, but to be honest the zoning doesn't bug me that much in this game as loading times are fairly quick. If that's due to the game or due to me having a new computer I'm not sure of.. Regardless, it doesn't impact my impressions in a negative way and I had completely forgotten about it when writing my post. More puzzles would be nice though, but there's nothing to say it won't be patched in sometime in the future.

Which is why I'll get GW2 without any regrets at all. The game is great, even if I didn't expect it to be... Hell, I'd even be prepared to pay a sub for a game like this. :)

That's largely my opinion too, OP, though I can't say I'm having withdrawl issues.

It's the smoothest game FPS-wise that I've played in recent months... and it's in beta.

I (so far) like how progression works.  The quests have alot of variety; I particularly like how quests are just "Help <NPC>" and you can do that in any number of ways or a combination of them.  If I go to collect/use something, that applies toward the goal, as well as killing mobs along the way.  The same quest no longer involves a static list.

I actually kinda like the smaller toolbar system; particularly that it switches with your weapon.  Which weapon(s) you use actually matters in this game.  I also like that you have to practice to become proficient with those weapons, but it doesn't take overly long to switch and get proficient.  A very cool, very expandable system where I feel like I have some real choices; something that TSW, despite having that massive wheel of skills, doesn't do.

On the bad side:  the setting doesn't grab me.  I've never been particularly big on vulgar fantasy, and while I like anime, I've never really cared to be a character in a more anime-ish setting.  If they took all these gameplay elements and dropped them into LotRO, I'd totally have a geekgasm.

Anyhoo, I've preordered it.  I've seen enough to know I'll like it enough to justify the box price.  And quite possibly more.
