Yes I often try to. I have a character on Rubies of Eventide (an Ogre Pikeman) that always RPs in the normal and yell channels. Even when I'm partying with people that use d00d speak. Its a lot of fun. I even try to roleplay in RuneScape, which is a real uphill battle. Not so much fun in RS because there is basically no effort made in it to be a RPing game and every person you meet breaks immersion.

Most the game ppl are not roleplaying. I mean, I most of them. The best roleplay I got was SWG. Then ShadowBane. A little bit of RP in Eq1 on french server (sebilis).

But, I'm waiting mourning. suppose to be full RP .. since their GM just for roleplaying :)

I return roleplaying when I can.

However, I dont bother to start roleplaying anymore, especially not with lack of voice and eyes contact.

Roleplaying in World War II Online is a must for the full experience since it is so realistic. The biggest WWII buffs play it so you know a player is going to roleplay s Whittman or Churchill.::::18::

I RP or at least try in every MMO I play now.  it Started in ernest with SWG I did do a little in EQ1.

Now playing CoH on and off. Was part of a real neat Rp group there lead by some PnP players. only problem was that they would come up with neat story ideas but would not share them with the whole group. The group found out about them as they were played out for the most part. Time travel and opposite dimension characters were 2 of the larger things we did when I was there.

I tried to RP in EQ2. I don't know quite why but EQ2 litterally put me to sleep after a while. ( I went from CoH to EQ2 and now back to CoH)

RPing in a game is hard, if your out for total imersion. These are games first, and you will always have to deal with game talk.  I was part of a group on SWG that worked to turn game talk into RP speak. but it does take alot of effort.

I always roleplay in my games, and I always go straight for the roleplay servers. It is difficult to roleplay and I find my self just roleplaying to myself most of the time, although there are those time when you have alot of fun rping.

I like to roleplay, but I take a somewhat relaxed approach to it.  For example:  I don't try to use any special accent.  I know I can't keep that up all the time and to me it seems less immersive for a character to use an accent one moment, then drop it for a while, then start using it again.  So I just speak in ordinary, standard English.

And I don't tell long stories about my characters past.  If it seems appropriate I'll toss in some brief mention of his background, but I don't go on and on about it.

Mostly I just try to speak from the perspective of my character and behave as he would if he really existed.

The problem in these games is that the way the games are designed doesn't encourage roleplaying.  In fact, sticking to roleplay behavior usually puts you at a distinct disadvantage.  The roleplayer can't really play the min/max game.

And then there are simple things like terminology that tend to detract from immersion.  These games tend to give us a lot of numbers to talk about.  Like strength 120 and things like that.

No one has ever really made a mmorpg yet with roleplay in mind.  I think if one were properly designed and well thought out, it could get people to fall into a more or less roleplay frame of mind without them even realizing it (now excuse me while I take another puff from this stuff I'm smoking).

    <ahhhh...>

Oh, and someone mentioned Mourning.  Yes, Mourning will have LGM's who will supposedly run around in the game world encouraging roleplaying.  I hate to be such a skeptic but...dang, talk about spitting into the ocean.  I just can't believe it will make any difference at all.  There will be soooo many players and soooo few GMs.  How could they possibly make any real difference?  Name one game in which the GMs could even properly enforce the naming policy.  And they think their's will be able to get everyone to roleplay?  Come on, who do they think they're kidding.  I mean, if you encounter a GM three or four times in three or four years of playing you'll probably be atypical.  So I guess I'll just have to approach that with a -I'll believe it when I see it- attitude.

Every game I play I'm roleplaying. Mind you, I'm sure plenty of "roleplayers" would refute that...but that's a different debate.

Kind of hard to call the poll accurate since most nonroleplayers will pass this thread up

Menias, I don't think this poll is about PVP or Anti RP vs RP. If you really look at what the original poster is asking, you will notice he is really asking RPers if they even invest time in RPing in a MMO at all.

He is NOT asking any anti-RPers. Therefore this post is totally irrelevent to your type in the first place.

Oh, BTW Coman, I think it would be better if you started a poll stating it as well. You have to realize that the MMORPG community can't be compared to what real RPG is. You will find out from visiting here that most MMORPG players wouldn't even touch a real RP game with a 10 foot pole. Infact you will notice a lot here are more like FPS lovers gone leveling.
