For myself, I'll probably take about two weeks or so, assuming I don't get overly distracted by secondary alts while trying to level my main. I'm in no rush.
Not to flame or so, but can you clarify why in 2 weeks is NO RUSH..?
lol yea two weeks would be rushing imho unless you are playing 8 hours a day but i have been told in the past i take too much time to level in MMOs
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg
Already been done. People hit level 80 by BWE2 doing WvWvW. That's 6 days top. Probably less. Considering there will be more PvE content it will be probably doable in 4 days or less.
That said I personally don't see myself hitting level cap within first 3 weeks since headstart. I will be too busy failing at jump puzzles and doing all sorts of more interesting stuff than rushing to max level. The exp comes on it's own by just doing things, sometimes it even felt more than I'd like.

I was paying more attention to how much of the area I had completed than to my level. I'm not entirely sure what level I finished at, but I know I did about 35% of the first open world area.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
4 days sounds about right, sadly. Somehow in every game exist a special type of person(s), a few are probably reading this post now - you know who you are. You seemingly have no real life responsibilities and no real life motivations - your only goal is to powergame the @#$% out of every new game on the market. You could care less about every single aspect of the game except being the first.
I truly despise your type, but, I'm also thankful I'm not you.

I know one case of someone hitting level 80 after having played BWE1 + 2, and that may have been due to an experience exploit.
could really care less honestly.. this is probably first MMO in awhile I don't care how fast I progress since I enjoy exploring the world so much.
Agreed!
When I played WOW I was obsessed with getting to the highest lvl as fast as possible. After playing in the beta, I can say with 100% certainty that I will take my sweet time to get to lvl 80. I'm going to explore, do as many "hearts" and DE's as I can and just enjoy fun times with friends and guildies in WVW. There's so much to do and explore in GW2, I'm just going to let lvl 80 come to me instead of me chasing after it.
I predict that it will take less than 4 days time for the first Guild Wars 2 player to reach level 80 on a single character. There will probably be account sharing, boosters, pooling of crafting mats and other such shenanigans involved in obtaining the bragging rights, but I expect these efforts to pay off in less than 4 days time.
Fortunately hitting level 80 so fast won't make the game world obsolete since I further predict that many players will be hitting level 80 after about 2 weeks of heavy gameplay or one month of relatively little gameplay.
Once 80, I suspect that most players will want to go back to fill out the maps that they skipped and run dungeons that they missed. It will probably take a few weeks to completely fill out all of the maps and run all of the dungeons depending on how much you play and whether or not you stop to dabble in crafting, WvW, sPvP, helping friends, doing world events or participating in live events (periodic events such as the end of beta events). I have no idea how long it will take to obtain gear that has the stats you want, the look you want or legendaries... but at least some of this will be accomplished as you fill out the world.
By this point the Guild Wars 2 live team should already be introducing new awe inspiring content:
"We’re already starting to outline some of our plans going into the live-support mind-set, and I think, frankly, that people will be blown away by the kind of support this game is going to get after it ships." -Colin Johanson
How fast is the live team going to push new content and in what form will it be? New events are a given. New PvP maps? New areas to explore? New dungeons? New mini-games? I guess we'll find out.
I don't think that we will see a full scale expansion for at least one year:
"... [W]e also learned that it wasn’t in the game’s best interest to release new expansions as rapidly as we had originally intended. I mean, we literally got to the point where we could release an entire new campaign — with a new storyline, new professions, and new game mechanics — in just six months. We released Nightfall exactly six months after Factions. That pace was great for the hardcore players who could consume content that quickly, but it left a lot of other players behind and didn’t give the world time to settle from one campaign to the next." -Mike O'Brien
Just like every other game, PvP stands on its own. If you enjoy Guild Wars 2 sPvP or WvW then there's no end to the game content.
If you're solely into PvE, you've ran all of the dungeons in every mode, done all of the world events you care to do, have fully customized your gear, consumed all of the content and you do not want to play alts, work on an alternative build, revisit areas of the world to see what has changed or help guild mates and friends do the same then this will be the end of the game for you... at least until enough new content is added that you decide to come back or enough time has passed that the game feels new when you return.
If you are into alts then it's easy to see the whole process repeating. Fortunately the dynamic events help to keep the game world from feeling the same every time you visit an area, and with the promise of new events being weaved into existing areas the longer it takes to get to your first alt the more should have changed.
But back to the real question... In the spirit of guessing when the beta weekends would take place as well as the release date for GW2 I'd like to ask:
How long you think that it will take for thefirst person to hit level 80?
Based on your BWE experience, how long you think it will take you to hit level 80 and/or accomplish your goals?
I predict that it will take less than 4 days time for the first Guild Wars 2 player to reach level 80 on a single character. There will probably be account sharing, boosters, pooling of crafting mats and other such shenanigans involved in obtaining the bragging rights, but I expect these efforts to pay off in less than 4 days time.
haha, I don't think they mean WVW or SPVP. But if I'm understanding you corretly, I think you're making a great point. in GW2 no one gives two sh*ts about how fast you grind to lvl 80 in PVE, cause it won't matter at all when it comes to SPVP and WVW.
I'm thinking normal will be 120 hours played and an all out race to cap maybe 60. Both are just guesstimates.
Ken Fisher - Semi retired old fart Network Administrator, now working in Network Security. I don't Forum PVP. If you feel I've attacked you, it was probably by accident. When I don't understand, I ask. Such is not intended as criticism.
For myself, I'll probably take about two weeks or so, assuming I don't get overly distracted by secondary alts while trying to level my main. I'm in no rush.
Not to flame or so, but can you clarify why in 2 weeks is NO RUSH..?
Heh, good point. I guess I'm just thinking of the relatively flat level curve, and the rate I've been playing in the BWE's (I'm sure I'll slow down a bit on release though).
I guess I should clarify that I actually don't really care too much about actually reaching level 80. I think I'll be much more focused on exploring and completing maps (I'm a completionist explorer I guess, which probably didn't make much sense until GW2 came along).

Which is probably why so many of them are complaining about the lack of gear grind and gear lvl progression (newbie one-shooters).
I found that being overly aggressive helps with defeating players in WVW (not all the time of course). As an Asura elementalist, I found myself initiating combat against groups larger than mine and ending up beating them or pushing them away. In many cases I could tell they had better gear than I did. I greatly enjoyed the ability to be aggressive as an elementalist, considering that when I played WOW, I wasn't able to be as aggressive with my Gnome mage. Thank you Anet! :-)
I'm looking forward to killing many "racers" in WVW :-)

It doesn't matter in Structured PvP, but it does matter to an extent in World vs World. Not as much as in other MMORPGs, but it does matter.
Hopfully not to long. In GW1 you were max level befor leaving the noob island. So id say a few days of hard core playing. No rush though and once you are max level hopefully alot of stuff to keep you interested same as GW1
Someone will get to 80 in 5 days unless you use bonus XP you can get there in 3.
To rush to max lvl is really unecessary..the game is so good you don't have to care about leveling. The only levels i looked forward to in GW2 was lvl 5 and 7 to get my first ultility and weapon swap and the only levels i noticed was lvl 10 and 20 to get my three other utlities. I could level from 11 to 13 and not notice i had leveled up. GW2 is the best game ever!
Honestly, I'd say 4 days. Possibly less if they manage to do a lot of that via crafting matts (and are willing to pay a little cash to pay for some of the matts).
Reallly, though, I could care less. The advantage you get for hitting 80 faster than everyone else is almost zero. The game just isn't based around that rat race. I'm sure that there will still be people who do it, and that some of these people will complain about there being nothing to do. Hell, I've even seen people complain that there's nothing to do in the lvl 1-10 zones, which to anyone who's actually played it is laughable nonsense.
Either way, there is no cure for stupidity. There are going to be people who burn through the game, guarunteed. And for every person who 'gets it' and finally clicks on how the game works, and why it's fun, there are at least 20 who don't. Who will still treat the game like the next WoW clone, and then get mad when it's not.
I think I'll take 2 or 3 weeks for my first 80. I'm planning to play quite a bit right after release and then slow it down from there. I don't plan to rush, use any boost or gain exp from crafting until after I'm 80 (exp toward skill points to spend). I think I'll hit 80 through normal gameplay in about 2 or 3 weeks time. I plan on doing lots of alting and maxing out multiple builds.
I agree with most people in that it doesn't matter, but there's always at least one person who wants to claim world firsts like this.
I think that some people don't quite realize how easy it is to get to level 80 in GW2 when they talk about having an advantage in WvW. Rushing and boosting to 80 will give you all of 2 or 3 weeks advantage before the game is filled with level 80s.

I feel sorry for the people that race to max level in this game
All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.
I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.
I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.
I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.

5 mins is all i need to finish the tutorial zone and go to the heart of the mists
I think the whole race thing is ridiculous, youre not doing yourself any favors by blowing through everything in 2 days..
but hey,if you wanna pay 60$ so you can brag to your friends who prolly dont care either then go for it!
I also dont see the point to reach max lvl in 4-5 days, its not playing in this case its just rushing and not enjoying a game
but well good luck for people who want to do that

the "smell the roses" thread is...
<---- this way
The real question is how much time will it take to reach 100% map completion through normal gameplay; not rushing.
