I knew I would like this game after reading/watching tons and tons of stuff online.
But aftering playing in the first BWE.. then 2nd... then a stress test... then finally this third BWE...
I am just continually impressed and find more and more to like about this game, rather then what seems to be the opposite with every other MMO in the past 8 years - the more I play the LESS I like about the game.
GW2 is totally the opposite. The more I play the more I want to play. The more I like. The more I appreciate and the more I notice about how truly different and unique this game is.
Easy and simple to play with simple pvp and awesome graphic. That is what i need after hard working day and not some hardcore morpg's. I like that console way of playing and like i said before i am capable for first time to kill someone in pvp
Few buttons to press and raw power wins, thats my way of pvp
I skipped out on BWE #1 even though I was invited, and didn't play until this last one. I wasn't going to preorder because in the last few years I've been fucked on so many preorders (RIFT, Brink, AoC, WAR, Homefront) etc. After this BWE I can't believe I didn't play the first one. I preordered last night to get it out of the way, and now I just can't wait for the 25th 8)
i voted that it did not quite meet my expectations, however...
i've bought the game where it will remain on my HD and i will continue to play it.
is it the be-all-end-all of the fantasy (or other) genre MMO? no
is it evolutionary? yes
is it revolutionary? no
it takes ideas introduced in other titles, expands on them, and improves upon them. i can appreciate that. i have no specific criticisms of the game at all. it does many things really well, but there is nothing groundbreaking about it (and i don't care how you dress up similar systems).
i've had to temper my own enthusiasm of the game based on the fanatacism of players who seem to have witnessed the second coming of Christ. this kind of thing puts me off, to be honest.
i look forward to launch and expect to be entertained.
Met my expectations, after warhammer I've never truly missed the mark on that, every "AAA" game I watched gameplay videos and read atleast the basic features of pretty much fall precisely where I thought they would. I did let my imagination of what the games could be hype me up regarding MO and Xsyon though but that was more a dissapointment in development speed rather then the actual game I was playing at the time, potential is a word I learned to no longer give meaning to in regards to MMO's.
What were the expectations?
That it's a good solid game throughout that takes out or changes pretty much everything I despised in wow, primary ones being the endless gear grind and the quest system.
It's a far cry from my ideal MMO but that is also an unrealistic one since it basically boils down to the "Matrix" complexity but there are some in current MMO themepark relative terms giant leaps in the right direction being taken by GW2 the biggest being a step closer to a living breathing world and that gets my wallet vote.
I voted "met my expectations". The game isn't the sort I usually get into, but it is fun for what it is. I can see myself playing it off and on with friends, and that's really all I expected from the get go.
The results are self explanatory. 80% of people satisfied or better. 'nuff said.
met expectations and satisfied does not mean the same thing.
Neither does necessarily felt short either, one might be dissapointed if they thought it was the bestest game to ever been made but that doesn't mean they still can't play the game and have fun for months.
So far I would say it is somewhere between fell short of my expectations and met my expectations.
I was super hyped about GW2 before trying it but from the very little (couple of hours) gameplay I got this weekend I just didn't like it so much. I can't say why exactly but for some reason it was boring. GW2 feels more MMO like now and I am not sure if that's a good thing. When I played GW1 for the first time I was blown away which was not the case with GW2.
BUT I am mostly interested in the structured PvP as that was why I loved GW1. I will see how that turns out. However, I am still very bitter over the fact that they scrapped dual professions and they went for the fewer skills approach. I loved how GW1 had tons of skills. I know a lot of them were super mega uber situational but I liked it.
OF course, I will buy GW2 because I am a huge GW fan and there is no way I am going to miss on playing this game. It's just I wasn't really blown away by my first GW2 experience.
Mission in life: Vanquish all MMORPG.com trolls - especially TESO, WOW and GW2 trolls.
To be honest, completely dissapointed, Feels very reppetitve and disjointed, after playing TSW movement and combat feels very slow and sluggish.
Graphically the game feels exceptionally dated.
"World Events" just feel like a complete Zerg Here fest and doesnt really feel like you part of the community theres so little interaction that it feels almost like your simply playing with A.i.
Huge improvement over GW1 however it still feels like a Single player game, with an mmo shell, there no sense or need for grouping, Only mmo ever to get grouping right so far is ffxi.
Gave it a try, Will not be pre - ordering shame as the hype was so high.

Your post is immensly interesting. Worst combat than TSW, dated gfx, single player game AND the only mmo to get grouping right is ffxi....

I never said it was good or bad. Only responding to 'nuff said' comment.

I Didnt say the combat was worse, i stated movement and combat felt slow and sluggish in comparison which it does, FFXI had a forced grouping model which IMO built an incredible community, hense the "MM" in MMO is for, most new MMo's do not push the "MM" aspect for most content, The graphics are incredibly dated for the current MMO competition Tera, TSW and even Archage as examples, This isnt essential but dx9 in todays day and age!? come on!!

I like how some people say it isn't massively multiplayer while others complain there is too many people (zergy)..
DX10/11 didn't had that much on the IQ side that couldn't be done in DX9, generally minor IQ gains at a huge performance cost - tessellation being a major disapointment so far.
It might not be the most technologic advanced engine, but it is really pretty. I love all the water. It feels very artistic and colorfull.
And got love how plant life moves with blasts and your movement.
No, the graphics aren't dated at all - just not going for ultra realist look.

I know it was basically just an more holistic pov agreement.
Thus far, I'd have to say that it's met my rather high expectations perfectly. So I chose the middle option. I mean, Anet has been more than transparent concerning what this game is. I was able to accurately assess whether or not I would like this game before playing it; and actually playing only confirmed my pre-assessment.
I suppose I could have said it exceeded my expectations because I did encounter small details that surprised or amazed me continuously throughout my beta experience. But overall, I find I've enjoyed GW2 exactly as much as I suspected I would.
Also, I'd point out that a fundamental flaw in this poll is that it doesn't account for what each poster's expection was before playing the game. The middle option for instance could indicate that GW2 met a player's low expectation or high expectation. As such, each option doesn't really represent the poll participants' positive or negative attitudes toward the game.

And also most people will be "satisfied" alone purely by the content for the B2P model, If this game went monthly subscription it would severly fail.

What would it didn't blow me away but it was pretty good fall under on your poll? You don't seem to have any middle ground.
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
Me nor my guild have any intentions of playing GW2, or any themepark based MMO for that matter.
I know it was basically just an more holistic pov agreement.
Exceeded my expectations.
GW2 is the MMO i´ve been waiting for... changes so many mechanics just the way i like it!
removing all tedious clichés and giving life to an inmersive and fun world.
Kudos to Arenanet for such an awesome game !

It's not a rating, it's basically just based on how well GW2 fared based on how well you expected it to be before playing.
Knowing some of your posts from before, I would say that GW2 would have had to been pretty darn terrible to be worse than your expectations .
Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?
I'd say it fell short of my expectations, but not by much. Looks like a good game to enjoy along side PS2.
