Did BWE 3 make you reconsider your class?

WellzyCWellzyC Member UncommonPosts: 599

For me, yes. Very much so. I was convinced that the Ele was my class. But i discovered quickly a lot of stuff i did not like about it after dedicating the entire BWE to the ranger.

70% (or at least it felt like) of the ele skills are ground targeted. I am an old school gamer so I use the keyboard for everything, I mean everything... I even tie camera angles to my keyboard (pitch up and down). The only time I use the mouse is to target far away mobs or for quick panning of the camera.

The ranger has almost no ground targeted abilites and has some great utility as far as healing and CC, way more cc than the ELE.. and i LOVE CC.

So wellzy is now a ranger. ty have a good day.

This past weekend took me from a Ranger as main, to a necro as main, to a thief main with necro alt. Though I admit I really liked the Ranger with long bow main and shortbow on switch. I am so confused lol

I played in BWE1&2 and I was convinced that Ranger was going to be my main and then in BWE3 I decided to level a Warrior.  I had a lot of fun with Warrior.  2 handed hammers are fun to wreck havock with and I love the stun effects.  dual wield axes was pretty fun too.  I wish Warrior could have 3 weapons equipped to switch though which would be very fitting for a weapons master class.  I mostly had Hammer/dual axes most of the time, Hammer to do multi target dmg and the dual axes to single target kill.  I loved the survivablity of the Warrior though in WvW.  People bugging you a lot? Hammer smash them or kick them image   I can't wait to get the skill that makes you take zero damage for a short time.   I didn't get to check out Guardian like i wanted though.  Had too much fun on  Warrior.

Kinda of, but i dont know why it would be exclusive to bwe 3.

before the first beta weekend after years of excitement, I thought the elementalist would be my one true love. Then I played it until level 22 hated it and make a thief, played till level 3 hated it (admittedly did not give it a chance). So I decided to play a mesmer, enjoyed it in WvW and PvE, although I found it weak. I spent Bwe2 playing the shit out of the mesmer and stress test, THEN in bwe3 sPvP finally broke the camel's back and i decided that the mesmer was not for me. Played the ranger enjoyed it, love the greatsword.

BWE2 actually made me reconsider my class. During the first BWE I played as a thief, since I almost always play rogue-like classes. During BWE2, I decided to try a warrior and haven't looked back. I like the flow of the warrior class much better than the thief. The funny thing is that I almost never play warrior classes in MMOs as I generally prefer the faster combat of the rogue classes but in GW2, the warrior just feels more responsive than the thief.

I'll still roll a thief but the warrior will be my main.

The 3rd BWE didn't make me reconsider, it just opened up a few more choices for me. I played Thief through the CB3, the BWE1 and BWE2 and didn't really touch anything else. This last beta though, I rolled a Mesmer and a Ranger and absolutely loved them.

As far as the Ranger went, I found the "cookie-cutter" axe/warhorn and greatsword build to be pretty boring for me so I built a support spirit Ranger and in tournaments it's amazing. Very hard to kill, constant boons for allies, and decent damage still, although not as bursty as the other build is. It made me a difficult target because if you try to focus me, I'm too tanky, I have great kiting abilities, and the rest of my team will just target whoever is on me if needed and kill them. If you ignore me, my spirits will continue to roam around, spreading their goodness, and I'll continue to spam axe throws, bleeds, chills on everyone.

If you didn't try out a spirit build this last beta, try it out on release.

I started playing a Sylvari thief and i loved it.

Didn't expect to but there it is.

So now it's a tossup between a Charr warrior and a sylvari thief.

Yep certainly did. All the BWEs and stress tests did.

I have gone from definitely having a ranger as my main, to definitely having an engineer as my main, to definitely having a mesmer as my main, to definitely having a warrior  as my main.

I have also gone from definitely playing a Charr, to definitely playing a Human, to definitely playing a Sylvari.

Soo confused. Still, got a month to make my mind up.....

I went from Ranger in BWE 2 to Necro in BWE 3 to Engineer the last three hours of the beta so...

    1. Engineer

    2. Necro

    3. Ranger

This may change yet again. :) Thank you Arena Net for making such good professions/classes.

Before BWE3 i doubted betwee 2 classes, BWE3 helped me choose one of them.

But now i am in doubt again

I've been in debate between Mesmer and Necromancer and still am. I played the mesmer throughout BWE1 and 2 and found myself really good at it, it all makes sense to me, the clones, the weapons, conditions, different builds and the traits and I maximize and push it to its limits.

But I love the concept of the Necro, The spectral form, lich form, minions and conditions plus the big pool of health and lasting survival, these are all things that I enjoy about the class. But I'm just not good at it. I tried the thief and warrior in structured PvP and did fairly well with them also even though I had no experience but the Necro I just can't seem to grasp it.

I guess Necro will be my main after all though, I'm hoping I get good with it if I learn every skill in detail in PvE and learn to use them wisely on PvP. Either way Mesmer will have second place with me and I'll really enjoy taking a break from Necro to try this really cool class, I just love the skill effects.

Remember... all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more.

I'm going to say the common, "You're not doing it right."   Honestly the Elementalist was a BLAST and I'm fully playing it during Live.   Only about 1/3rd of the total of the elementalist's abilities are ground-targeted.  Mind you most of the Staff ones are like that, but then there's the Dagger, the Scepter, the Relic/Off-hand, and that's with Fire, Water, Air, and Arcane attunment.    Even then, I can whip out a Summon Frost Bow and become a Ranger-esq style with a great frost stun.

me too, I tried all classes but still assassin type of profession is best suited for me. But I have pretty much good idea what my alts gonna be.

I'm still undecided on a main class to get to 80.  My 3 choices though, are ranger, elementalist, or guardian.

Rangers have more CC than the Ele? I didn't know that.

    Nope.  Guardian > all

If in 1982 we played with the current mentality, we would have burned down all the pac man games since the red ghost was clearly OP. Instead we just got better at the game.

Made me reconsider a tad. The first 2 beta weekends I was playing on my girlfriends account with her Ele. Was fun and quite powerful in WvW and PVE settings. When I could I made a guardian and ranger, had fun with both. Bwe3 though I got an account of my own and played mesmer and warrior. Warrior will be my main now, and mesmer in hopes of funny tactics can come about with the usage of the portal skill. Like being stranded in a recently captured tower in WvW, wait for people to leave then pop a portal down, jump off the walls and portal your friends into the tower :).

Quite possibly. I planned to have Warrior as my main at launch, so I wanted to avoid playing it too much in beta. So I played Guardian in BWE 2 & 3... and kinda fell in love with it. Wrecking stuff with the Greatsword, and awesome support opportunities with everything else.

Still, I can't quite forget how fun warrior was in BWE1...

  • MikehaMikeha Member EpicPosts: 9,196

I went from Warrior to Necro and then found my main as a Guardian.

as a card carrying member of AA (altaholics anonymous) i will have *multiple* characters.

however, i have to say that i was accidentally sucked into the vortex known as Mesmer and will be starting off with that class.

For me I have a feeling im going to be an alt-aholic in this game so I setup the classes i want to play to race. I want to play sylvari first so ranger it is, then asura guardian.. which lucky enough are my two favorite races/classes. Also, as far as you not liking ground targeting, one thing you can try is to use the Auto-ground targeting option in the options menu. I'm not sure if thats the exact name for it but what it does is essentially when you push a ground target skill it auto-casts it where your mouse is so no need to click the mouse. Its like smart-cast in LoL. Give it a try and you might enjoy ele more. Enjoy!

Sigh,, this game really have some interesting classes, thus making it so damn hard to pick a main :D (good thing btw)

I really love all the classes in GW2, I havent played em all to the same extent but still see how there is gonna be something for everyone in this game ;D

Now for the "picking" part, I have allways been an altoholic, love alts, love the diversity it brings and in this game it will be fantastic since theres so much to do and u dont get the same feeling as being "left behind" if you are on an alt spending your time ;D

BWE1 I was mainly testing out all classes but played a heavy dose of Guardian, loved it

BWE2 I focused alot on Mesmer and Thief, loved em both

BWE3 I focused more on the Thief, love the mechanics and shortbow is just awesome (used dagger + pistol alot also)

Though im having a hard time picking a main cuz all classes are so damn fun ;D

Might roll a Ranger or Warrior since ive played em the least but im still leaning alot towards the thief I guess I will decide on Launch day, problaby gonna play sylvari since I really love their zones and lore :D

  • DeolusDeolus Member UncommonPosts: 392
Only played ele, ranger and warrior during the BWEs. Was going to roll a necro as my main but had so much fun as an Asura warrior I think I am going to stick with it.
  • tomfabiotomfabio Member UncommonPosts: 25

Went from Elementalist in Closed Beta, to Guardian in BWE1, to Ranger in BWE2 and finally an Engineer in BWE3. I'm fairly possitive i'll be sticking with Engineer :)

It did not make me reconsider my profession, but it did make me reconsider my race. I went from a Charr Elementalist to an Asura Elementalist...

    See ya'll Aug 25th!
