I like how far GW2 has come, but WOW is still the superior choice.

KopogeroKopogero Member UncommonPosts: 1,685

I do not come as a WOW fanboy. There are tons of things I dislike about WOW, but GW2 choose to follow WOW in a lot of features and design. It's another themepark, but WOW imo is still the better MMORPG choice of what's avaliable until the end of this year.

As a veteran, hardcore MMORPG player I also did not buy into the hype and voting pools I've been seeing that are in favor over WOW. There are tons of reasons why GW2 might look like most wanted MMORPG on these forums and I'll name some.

#1 Guild Wars 2 is new, upcoming MMORPG, WOW is 8 years old. Just like when you get a new g/f, its so exciting!

#2 Guild Wars 2 is only B2P without subscription. [mod edit]

#3 Majority of the posters here probably are waiting and hoping for GW2 to be the next big thing since "their last MMORPG failed them" or they simply failed to entertain themself in it.

#4 Many are not as experienced in the genre and are easily "bought" into the hype. I honestly do like to see GW2 launch strong and get bizillions of sales, but the more experienced gamers like me will take advantage of the GW2 launch date. There will be a full month before MOP comes to also see how well this game will perform and get further info about it.

Comparing the two WOW is superior over GW imo in:

User Interface

System requirements

Higher skill cap

Cash shop design

Customer Support

PvE endgame

I'm sure there are a lot of others "debatable" things, but these are the top 5-6 that come in my mind that are definite from what we know about GW2.

Apart from the fact that I vehemently disagree with what you stated, how insulting is this?

    "Loading screens" are not "instances".
Your personal efforts to troll any game will not, in fact, impact the success or failure of said game.

nah GW2 being 60$ upfront is the superior choice for me.

Not a WoW fanboy ?, Then why start this thread?? ( there are 1000 other ones.)

I like the GW storyline.. everybody got his own opinion on games.

Leave people play what they want. and dont superior yourself because you play the great WoW.

Good luck on the new expansion :) again 30 euro/dollar?

WoW/Blizzard is in no way superior then any other MMO.

Look at the past three threads he has made or posted on. He is constantly making threads to say wow is better than guild wars 2.

Im quite sure this guy was just giving his own opinion... Never did he say that you should not play the game.

Maybe read the OP post, hes talking about superior games? then you are wrong here, this is MMORPG, wich is maked for all fans not only for WoW players

Thanks for the offer, but I'll stick with Gw2.

    1. I think there is some validity to this.

    2. I find the comment about "lower standards" to be incredibly insulting and naive; demonstrates severe tunnel vision. As to the affordability of the F2P model, that is appealing no matter where you live!

    3. So now it's my fault for not having fun in WOW??

    4. So level headed veterans will automatically choose WOW over GW2, while the "rest of us" who buy into fads will be blinded by the hollow flashing lights of GW2?? What of the level headed veterans who got sick of WOW? Oh yeah, that's right, it was our fault for not having fun in WOW... sigh.

User Interface: WOW does indeed have one of the best UI's in the business

System Reqs: WOW is almost 8 years old, they don't require much; which is also one of their strengths

Higher skill cap: Can you please explain further.

Cash shop design: I could care less for both games' cash shops.

Customer support: Blizzard (battlenet) does have great customer support, though GW2 also has great customer support.

PVE Endgame: In this case, I would say GW2 has a better endgame. WOW's endgame is an endless gear grinding treadmill... no thank you!

So I pretty much disagree with every one of your listed things where wow is more "superior" in.

And to be fair there are lot of other mmos other then gw2 that are better then wow at  most of these exact points.

[mod edit] here is why I disagree with what you have said :

User Interface: Wow's interface takes outside mods to become usefull and GW2 is simple enough that it does not require anything to make it better

System requirements: Of course WoW's system requirements are lowr the game is F***ing 7 years older. The graphics in WOW look like puke comapred to GW2 so your point is moot

Higher skill cap: Are you kidding? As a WoW mage you have to press 1-3 buttons depending on how fancy you want to get. LMAO. No contest here you actually have to play your toon in GW2 or you die. I could go make a sandwich and come back in wow and still be alive.

Cash shop design: WoW cash shop? Either way GW2 has no subscription fee and their cashop looks good to me.... GW2 wins.

Customer Support: How do you know what customer support will really be like in GW2 its only had 3 Beta's. From what I have heard GW1 has good customer support and GW2 should even be better. The only reason you need support in WOW is usually because your account has been hacked.

PvE endgame: We dont have a clear picture what GW2 end game will be like because no one has gotten that far. But if you mean that GW2 won't have and endless treadmill gear grind I am totally fine with that.

BEcause as usual, this game isn't really trying to do anything different.

    Same elementary styled pvp

Same races and classes beating each other up

    etc

you have made some very weak points.. here is what GW2 is superior over wow

    - better graphics

    - better aesthetics

    - better payment option

    - developers actually listening to their playerbase (they even had an AMA on reddit)

    - far better lore (subjective)

    - more detail to the world

    - less grind for power

    - Dynamic events stomp traditional quests... even hearts are better

    - exploration

    - more skill based pvp

    - WvW (far superior to battlegrounds)

    - Much better/realistic/appropriate armors (seriously just look at some of the new videos from bwe3)

    - Better auction house

    - Asura

    - better/improved crafting

    - more active combat/dodging

    - very tough dungeons

also type in youtube "Guild Wars 2 60 reasons" and you might get an even better idea...

Very good point. WOW was, back in the day, a great game... key word "was".

The WoW UI is actually one of the worst in the industry, the only reason it appears to be good is because you can mod it. GW2's UI is great for alot of people, but that is just all opinion oriented so whatever. System requirements...not really sure what you mean, I guess that WoW runs on a variety of systems? GW2 runs on a variety of systems too. The main reason WoW runs great on a variety of systems though is because it is old..and ugly. It looked good back in the day and is still "tolerable", but even so the animations are really what kill it. Not sure what you mean by customer support, as GW2 is not even live yet. Endgame is not superior, that is a poor statement, you should backup your claim so it can can be disputed.

The only "opinion" you have that I feel like isn't even really an opinion but is untrue and is a fact is that WoW does not have a higher skill cap. GW2 has a far higher skill cap. You cant dodge attacks, you cant strafe to avoid melee, you can LOS...but if the person is spamming the key the ability will just go off anyways after they go out of LOS. In GW2 when someone LOSes you, you lose your ability because you still cast it...that is a far higher skill cap. WoW has very dated gameplay and alot of people have mastered it and beaten it to death. This is the reason so many other games tend to not do so well, because alot of game's copy WoW's gameplay which everyone is already pro at so its still the same system. A large portion of the WoW abilities you cannot use while moving, either.

it does in their head.. they think that just because they give out 15 dollars = better game... which is just silly. If COD became pay to play some people would think that it has higher standards then battlefield because you give more money so the game must be automatically better... yeah... that totally makes sense...
