Help me find some real positives about this game

    I acknowledge that certain percentage of players perceive MMOs the way you do. In my opinion, players of your type and HC PvPers that do not care much about RPG side of the game will represent vast majority of the game's population 6 months after launch.

    Edit: Just wanted to mention that "players of your type" is not to be taken negatively. I would not dare to insult you :)

     

    No, I don't take it negatively, and we'll see soon enough if those segments of the gaming population are enough to make GW2 a thriving success.  Nothing wrong with having lots of successful MMOGs of different types around to choose from.

    To put it simply, what I think makes GW2 to me is the fact that you can easily, without preparation, engage in both large scale PVE and PVP at any time (DEs and WvWvW respectively).  

    You don't need to organize anything, you don't need to schedule anything, you don't need to be guilded, in fact you don't even need to know anyone.

     

    You can just login, at any time, and engage in mass PVE and PVP with other players within minutes of logging in.

     

    Also in a facet of the game that I think goes perfectly with this:  You don't need to be connected to a main character.  Your gains for the most part are accountwide regarding achievements, titles etc.   Thus you can fiddle around in both large scale PVE and PVP with a variety of characters both without getting bored and without feeling like you're "wasting time" on an alt that should be better spent acquiring gains on a main character.

     

    Yet another facet that plays well into all the previous:  Being in multiple guilds.   One thing GW2 likes to do is keep you from feeling tied down, like you need to be doing a particular thing.   Being in a single guild contributes to that greatly, "We're doing this...in fact we're doing it at x time".   Just the kind of thing GW2 seems to be getting away from as much as possible.   But in GW2 you can still join long term communities with people for goals...but you don't need to pick one and exclude the others.  

    Got a guild of people that like running DEs that you enjoy hanging out with?  Join that guild and go play with them, setting your flag to "represent" them.   How bout a different guild that's mostly on at weird hours, maybe you like playing late at night sometimes and you found a guild of people in another country that are active when you login?  Well you can join them too.   How bout yet another group that does mainly WvWvW and is pretty good?  Well you can guild with them too and represent them when you're up for some WvWvW!

     

    In fact you can do all that and even have a guild of your own too to just goof around with, instead of feeling like you need to load up your guild with players needed to tackle a particular kind of content.   If yours cant/isn't capable of doing a particular thing you want to do right now, just switch over to another guild you're in that can.  

    Even with all that, you can at any time just show up somewhere solo and jump in with other people doing whatever it is they are doing.  Even if you're in 5 guilds that do different things, if you're popping in for an hour you don't have to try to get something going, just show up...other people you don't know are doing that thing you wanted to do anyway, just play with them.

     

    Everything from the bottom up seems to be made with the design of "Do whatever it is you feel like doing at any time and we'll try to give you the most options as possible while doing whatever it is you feel like doing".  

     

    That's a great thing and something I can't recall ANY MMO doing well on such a grand scale, even if I dip back into my experience with MUDs, UO, EQ1 classic etc.

    look at swtor,they hyped the everliving bejesus out of it.and look at how many people who followed the game blindly because of the hype ended up disapointed and leaving.im just sitting back and waiting for the same result to happen in guild wars 2

    i mean me personally.the only reason i actually care about guild wars 2,is because after playing world of warcraft and star wars the old republic.guild wars 2 seems to not eather tack on there pvp,or give it the redheaded step child treatment to the pve

    Seeing that you elimited the $50 price tag of the subscription MMO like it doesn't matter, just go out and buy GW2 and you can learn all the subjective positives about the game.

    See, here's why I responded to it. What I read from the OP's post is "I hear a lot of awesome stuff about this game, but I have some legitigmate concerns. can someone who has actually played it gimme som insight on how those parts work, so I can make an informed decision?" And you can't that kind of insight from a FAQ.

     

    There is a lot of hype around this game, and some of it really is inflated. It is however a great game, and it's hard for people to sift through the hype to get to the real truth of the positives and negatives of the game. 

     

    Now, if OP had said "You know what? I think this game sucks. I like WoW. Justify your stupid game to me if you can, losers!" I'd ignore the thread. We've certainly seen those here before.

     

    But if somoene's on the fence and wants an honest perspective from someone that played the game, why not help them?

    Animation in this game looks great. And I want to be able to leap in front of a wounded ally and take a ranged shot meant to kill him.

     

    Also, norn females have huge breasts.

     This is VERY close to what makes me the biggest fan of GW2's design.  very close.

    For me, the one difference is that this game allows the best game feature of all.

    Playing with my friends.

    It's not just 'playing the game in all sorts of various ways' (Which is super awesome), but that I can do so WITH MY FRIENDS, without trivializing content, while both of us are getting rewarded.

    Any of the other games the OP listed, there are all sorts of barriers in the way to playing with your friends.  Fuck that.  'Playing with my friends' is the best feature an MMORPG could ever have, and the more of it focused on letting me play with friends anywhere, anytime, the more awesome.

    I've had ongoing friends for 20 years.  I haven't played any MMORPG for 20 years straight.  Time I spend with my friends?  Better than time in MMORPGs.  I have more fun stories with my friends than I do in MMORPGs without them.

    Obviously, friends are the vastly superior feature that GW2 boasts over other MMORPGs.

    Playing with my friends in WoW was a nightmare, and 90% of the reason I quit.  Wrong servers, wrong factions, wrong levels, long-ass pointless travel times on flight paths, no way to jump straight into PvP with friends from the beginning...

    Yeah.  Pretty much every MMORPG on the market is like that.  Down with games that don't think my friends are more important than the game itself.
