At PAX11, this was the only game that really surprised me. I knew I was going to love GW2 going in, but this just blew me away. The booth was pretty empty and I got a ton of hands on time, with the art lead walking me through the demo. It's really gorgeous in game, really captures that 'cartoon' aesthetic without being too over the top, and even in it's alpha state managed to be incredibly fun. With GW2, it was definitely my favorite game at the con, and I'm so excited it's starting to build momentum.
/fingerscrossed it's going to be at Prime this year, I'd love to see how the development has come along in the past year.
I really dont get it, why so many devs ignore housing completely, or just add it as some instanced/useless feature, thats just there for the sake of it.
I mean, just look at how many people play sims-like games, it could almost be a standalone game inside of an mmo, which could bring 1000's of players, if made right. Theres much much more 'casual' players than hardcore ones, and if one game manages to mix those 2 worlds (aka gives enough love to non combat, casual, features)... how exactly could that game fail?
Sure, some people here dont actually give a rat's ass about housing, but they would be free to ignore it, just like others should be able to ignore combat activities if they wish so.
its not like we dont have some 8128 combat based mmos already, but no, devs just keep on spawning same games with differently named mobs/textures and 2 months later yell 'zomg why did our game fail, it has much cooler mobs than other 8.000 games'. Seriously...
I've been watching Wildstar out the corner of my eye for quite a while now. I really like their humour
They're not using a semi-cartoon style like WoW, they seem to be going all-out cartoon, and it looks like hilarious fun, if the video's up 'till now are anything to go by. The game design looks quite solid, but the game certainly doesn't take itself seriously.
Wildstar is now my #2 most anticipated future release !
Those are 3 of the reasons that my interest is really piqued on this one! It APPEARS to be my favorite "style" of game. It's particularly important to me that a game doesn't take itself too seriously. I play games to have fun and to disappear (ever so briefly) into a comical fantasy world. Yes, I did play WoW. No, it was by far not my first game, but it was one of my favorite. I enjoy the cartoon bit......very very much. And this does look more like a PIXAR cartoon than WoW. Will be watching this one for sure.
Oh yeah....and they're going to have HOUSING, which I love (at least the EQ2 style that this appears to be, rather than LoTRO style). Most "serious" games anymore seem to ignore housing. That's always made me feel a big F.U. to the devs. If YOU don't think your game world is worthy of giving me a place to "live" in it....then tell me why I should come spend hours in it playing? Housing is important to me and to a "few" other people too. Afterall....if you don't want housing, just don't USE it. But why keep everyone from having it that DOES like and use it?
I always believed right from the start that WildStar would be a game worth following closely. Since most of the NCsoft west games are going either b2p or f2p, I have high hopes that this is going to fall in one of the two categories .
If this is b2p or f2p I will be playing it alongside GW 2, that is all lol.
I might get banned for this. - Rizel Star.

P2P LOGIC = If it's P2P it means longevity, overall better game, and THE BEST SUPPORT EVER!!!!!(Which has been rinsed and repeated about a thousand times)
Common Sense Logic = P2P logic is no better than F2P Logic.
Those graphics aren't dated. It's a style. The detail is there in high poly counts. Just because they're choosing a more cartoony style to the game doesn't mean it's dated or any less detailed than, say, Skyrim (which seems to be some kind of benchmark, I guess).
Personally, I prefer the more whimsical look than attempts at looking realistic.

The idea and theme of the game seems great. Not sure if i can get past the very very dated graphics.

They don't look as dated as SWTOR.
