err wait GW2 bascially has a standard mmorpg combat system.. or was i playing a different game? sure there are some slight differences but nothing major its still a tab target game at the end of the day.. sure its a step in the right direction but its not drastically different..
Gw2 combat is normal mmo combat. The active dodge system is nothing more than activating a skill that makes you immune to damage for x secs. What gw2 does differently is utilizing projectile skill and Los better. It's still tab target auto attack. I play gw despite the basic combat system being too bland for my taste. I'd rather play an mmo with DFO style combat.
seriously dont know. love lot of things on GW2 but especially i like how combat system is diferent from WoW / LOTRO / SWTOR (any WoW based game).
if the combat style was same like WoW maybe i play the game but will be boring after some weeks, since main reason leave LOTRO was the combat system (still i play LOTRO more than 1 year)
Originally posted by drel You can try to play GW2 in the WoW combat style. There's nothing that says you can't. You just may die more often if you don't continually move.
positioning matters more, but it's core is still standard mmo a fair. I want full active combat... Like dfo or tera
Meaning? What more do you want from the game?

No, I don't think I would. I like the ability to move when I fight and not get locked in place like TERA, a game that falsely claims to have true action combat. And I've definitely had enough WoW combat to last me a lifetime.
For some reason... no, I wouldn't. I feel like a superficialist for this but the combat is one of the MAIN defining aspects of this game. A game that has the guts to cuts away from the rust encrusted conventional same-old-same-old-MMO of the modern age.
Adhering to the conventional combat clutter in a game such as this by a team with such a manifesto would feel like a deep betrayal to me. It would drive me away.
given that wow combat is far more fluid and smooth looking, ye, I would prefer it if I had to choose between that and this clunky movement/combat that is in GW2.
The reason I wouldn't play GW2 if they installed a WoW-like trinity/class system is because it would change every aspect of the game and not only ruin the casual-friendly, organic nature of player interaction, but it would also once again organize the community into caste system where players could be number-parsed for the min-max capacity to fulfill their combat role.
I enjoy having the capacity to create truly diversified characters and to be able to contribute to battles without being sorted into a 3-compartment rubric. No reason to play this game if they had a class/combat system like every other game, because then most of the rest of the game would become like every other game simply because of the cascading effect of such a combat/class system.
I would probably still play GW2, just as I played Aion and Rift some, but rehashed combat would seriously harm the game's potential longevity for me and reduce my expectations for the game accordingly.
There'd still be enough freshness in the world to fully immerse me for a good amount of time, but if the one thing you consistently do throughout it all (combat) is old, stale or just not well done, it will eventually feel too tedious to continue.
The combat is what really makes GW2 feel different from other MMOs and just using the same combat all other MMOs use would make the game feel a lot more average.
Still, I do like the exploration and the fact that you can pick what you do in a very different way than in most MMOs (I hate questchains that force you to do boring stuff to unlock the fun quests).
i agree about the way that the quests are distribute... hate chain quests specially in Tera that u must do almost everything in order to unlock farther quests...
Nope. I'd hold off and wait for Elder Scrolls Online and World of Darkness Online. Dynamic quests are awesome but they go hand-in- hand with new and fresh combat. The dynamic quests are great because of the synergy with the fluid combat. I definitely wouldn't buy the game and level all the way to 80 for the storylines. The dynamic quests, PvP, and WvWvW are the best reasons to play GW2. But they rely on fast reactive fluid combat that the game has right now.
The opposite was true with SWTOR. There's no way I would have played to endgame without the storylines. The combat was nice with the way it felt like choreographed battle. PvP was fun. But I was mainly playing for the Bioware story aspect.
I'd like to see an MMO able to make me play just for the crafting or the even the socializing.

Yeah I would. Well, we all have different opinions. But I still think Guild Wars 2 has some typical MMO combat:
Games:
Currently playing:Nothing
Will play: Darkfall: Unholy Wars
Past games:
Guild Wars 2 - Xpiher Duminous
Xpiher's GW2
GW 1 - Xpiher Duminous
Darkfall - Xpiher Duminous (NA) retired
AoC - Xpiher (Tyranny) retired
Warhammer - Xpiher

Why is it that a significant amount of guild wars 2 threads tend to be worthless?
Actually there is a guild wars that has WOW combat and it is called Guild wars 1.
Award for missing the point goes to...
