Does no one remember the South Park CBAA episode, last season?  The one where EA Sports bought out the CBAA from Cartman and he got screwed?  I'm all for that little pudgeball getting his comeuppance, but they made the point everyone else is sort of but not really but are really trying to make: EA chews up IP's and spits them out, leaving original developers and customers on the side of the road gasping for breath.  Sorta sucks for Bioware, and the Star Wars fans who, like me, were waiting to play an awesome game.  In usual EA fashion, the game sucked, and now EA, in usual EA fashion, is setting off to destroy any last vestiges of "BioWare."  Regardless of who cashed in on this whole debacle, a great gaming company is dying because the pushers of the "s#!% in a can" approach to products and marketing saw a way to make a buck.

"S#!% in a can" marketing and product approach:  Have someone take a hugesmall dump in a can.  Develope or take advantage of as many ways of forcing people to pay for the can of s#!% as possible.  Have marketing design an advertising campaign making the key demographic believe they cannot live without said can of s#!%- it will have to be clever and completely misleading in every way imagineable since no one in their right mind would buy a can of s#!%, so it will be expensive.  Sell to the poor sops who were dumb enough to be sucked into buying the can of s#!%, and hope that those who realize they bought a can of something they liberate from themselves on a daily basis won't be too vocal so profits will keep coming in.

Anything new here? Hmmm... Nope. o/

Nope. And all studios I can recall made REALLY cool games before. EA is truly the BANE of creativity. It was quite rightfully voted as Americas Worst Company.

Innocent & desperate question : What can we do to stop this ?

    A Tale of Two Companies

Thanks for the link, good video, and good channel as well.

The video really validates something that I've believed for a long time...passion is a necessary ingredient for making games.  If the top management of a company that produces art (ie games) isn't 100% passionate about that art, then that lack of passion will pass down through the hierarchy and poison any art that company produces.

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

It’s all rumor and speculation for the moment. If it’s true though, the combination of 1) the Docs gone, 2) more Bioware employees laid off, 3) SWTOR’s needs and F2P demands, and 4) EA’s disappointment in Bioware lead game efforts and focus on other endeavors, all combine to leave me doubtful regarding the future of any Mass Effect MMO ever making it to market.

Bioware will be lucky to exist by that point. And no, I am not talking about the Bioware name.

Sadly that's exactly how I feel.

But I still can't help but think of the big BANE that EA is picking up another 'smaller' studio and breaking it's back.

In a post somewhere on these forums someone talked about a concept called Cascade Failure and associated it with SWTOR. At the time I thought it was exaggeration but it's starting to look true.

I dont care about Bioware anymore. They allowed themselves to be purchased by EA long after EA earned their reputation of destroying companies...and Biowares last 3 games proved they are no longer a good company. 3 great gaming series ruined.

That's not the worst thing. The doctors and other can make new studios. But the IPs are lost to EA's IP-graveyard where games like Ultima, Dungeon Keeper, Lands of Lore and a plethora of other lie. Now Dragon Age, Baldurs Gate and Mass Effect all belong to the greedy evil clutches of EA. :(

Another soul consumed by the evils of EA. This is really disheartening news if this is going to happen. I really hope the Docs form a new team and get back on track like they did years ago.

I wouldn't be surprised if they left and created a new gaming company, with a focus on social gaming and story arcs. And just let the Bioware company title continue on making stuff. Like Maxis still does although Will Wright left Maxis years ago.

But I hope the rumor isn't true. Dragon Age series and Mass Effect series were awesome. Even liked ME3, everything except for the last 10 minutes lol. Bioware is really one of the few gaming companies that make the kind of cinematic games that I actually enjoy playing. Yes, I enjoy cinematic games. They make characters that I actually get attached to lmao. Jack and her biotic issues, Miranda, Tali, Jacob, Kaidan, Edi, etc. Can't really think of any other gaming company that creates characters that worth giving a damn about. Telltale Games is stepping up with The Walking Dead characters and storyline. But most other games it's only just temporary fun gameplay. Most game characters are just... empty, flat.

Here's hoping Bioware makes many many more. Still waiting for Dragon Age 3.

I agree, the cuts will keep coming. Funny thing is, we're all sitting here having countless posts about going F2P, PRIOR to all these cuts, the people working on this game demonstrated a LACK of expertise is providing a product. I'm convinced this 'transistion' to a F2P structure is going to require some coding/patching and I can practically gaurantee there will be significant problems when they flip the switch. It will in NO WAY increase the player base and will probably further accelerate player loss in a rather abrupt manner.

You mean Mark "The piece of shit" Jacobs, the person who turned Dark Age of Camelot into a pve fest? He got what was coming to him. He shouldn't ever be allowed to work on or near games ever again.

he wasn't alone. Sanya was a hack as well and so was matt frior for that matter. Dominus was apparently so bad that she had to de-hype it and write several rants already poised to blame gamers for the inevitable failure of the game, good thing it got canned.

actully it has having tech issues and they didnt have the devs to help them get past it ( they needed mroe funding to hire the right devs so they cut there losses instead of scam us like Ea keeps trying to do

bioware was such an awesome game company its so sad to see that EA has destroyed it. If ray and crew start again maybe they will learn that what they did was special and that selling out for a ton of cash is not a good thing
