ive already prepurchased it and i do have only two concerns
that after lvl 30 the world is empty doing a AOC and that the cash shop will be a buy to win
everything ive seen so far shows its not going to be like this but from every game we have all played for the last three years there has been somthing wrong happen
and im just waiting for gw2 problem to come up but so far , fingers crossed nothing yet
i guess we will need to wait for release and a week or so after to know
but also it has one adavntage to AOC all content is still playable at level 30 even starting areas so even if you had to wait for them to fill other areas there is still a lot to do
Its not even going to be close. Even if Anets 40+ content is severly lacking (we havent seen it first hand) it still wont be AoC. First, Anet has been really open about thier game. Funcom had an NDA on anything past tortage up untill release and for verry obvious reasons. I dont think Anet would be foolish enough to print something on the box thats not in the game. How Funcom got away with it without a massive lawsuit is beyond me. Even if the PvE content is horribly lacking or buggy at 40+ we will still have PvP. We have seen it working albiet a bit laggy. In AoC once you got out of Tortage the content was buggy, horribly lacking, and the pvp they claimed didnt exist.
I could continue but no reason to beat a dead horse. All people have to do is go look at some early posts in the AoC forums to see just how horrible that game was and how much Funcom lied. Actually LIED not just mislead. I have never gotten that vibe from Anet even in GW1. Keep in mind that has nothing to do with how long the game will last for most of us. But to say its the next AoC? Simply wont happen.
After you hit max level, the game will begin to bore you... we saw it in all themepark mmos before. But hey, its free. So for 50 euro you will have maybe 30-40 hours of fun, before its starts to get boring, fair deal.
And dont come me with , "I was in beta, I know the game is fun and will hold me for year"....
Beta shows only that what the developers what you to show so that you buy the game.
if your contention is GW2 is just like all those other MMOs you're wrong.
google "guild wars 2 mass info" and click the first thing, that will set you straight.

You're funny. Because those parts in yellow prove how much nay-sayers are granting themselves the right to post an absolute judgement, without even knowing what they're talking about.
Try harder, sour people. Try harder, because hey, you're not ridiculous enough yet.

Care to elaborate? I don't see how AoC's hype was "sold by Funcom".

Both games have hype both by the developer and fans (I'll admit it; i drove up some AoC hype myself early on).
I will say however, that Funcom did some pretty crappy things. Mostly, lying about seiges and DX10 in interviews. Putting on the printed box that I bought frm the store features that were not actually present in game. Stuff like that. They sold people on things that did not actually exist.
It's one thing to say that Anet's idea of DEs isn't as dynamic as some expected. OK, cool. But what Funcom did would be akin to Anet telling us all about DEs, promising them to us, and then not actually having any.
I jumped on the AOC hype bandwagon myself and learned an expensive lesson! Arena is making strong claims but they come across much more humble than Funcom. I mean the spokesperson for AoC could of convinced gamers that hello kitty was going to be the most epic and monumental game of all time. The hype that came from Funcom made it seem like WoW finally would be dethroned. Mythic was bad too. There spokesperson laid out side by side comparisons of War and WoW to show how much better War was going to be. I mean after listening to him I was psyched. All ended up being extreme exaggerations. Most of the hype I see from GW2 is from the fans and people who played the betas.
Betas shouldn't be used to further business unless it's the business of fixing/completing the game. Anet isn't the only company guilty of abusing a "beta" to sell their game, but it doesn't excuse the practice. These weekend beta events, and beta events for pre-orders/pre-purchasers aren't true betas. They're chances to show off a game with a very convenient excuse when something goes wrong: It's beta!
Don't think for a second that there isn't something very intentional in their limited use of weekend only time. Note: I'm not saying they're doing anything sinister, or keeping secrets or whatever, but keeping gamers in the honeymoon period sounds very much like a spot on guess.
Thank you for your opinion but I disagree. For starters BW1 had terrible lag the first few hours and it was fixed. There were numerous bugs that I personally reported and were fixed by BW2. It wasn't just for advertising.
If you want problems fixed in your gam,e you are going to have a much better chance of fixing them with dedicated players. Pre-purchasing allowed responsible, interested players to help in the beta process.
Well it's definitely great to know that you had a direct hand in fixing the game, but I'm positive they have a closed beta team working everyday on finding and reporting those same issues, and are not relying on 3 weekend tests to find their problems. Stress testing is really the only true argueing point you'd be able to cite for why any of those weekend tests were true beta tests.
Red text: There's nothing about pre-purchasing or pre-ordering a game that indicates a more responsible player. Relevant anecdote: My nephew is 13 and had his parents pre-purchase the game for him. I guarantee he wasn't bug hunting during the BWEs.
Pre-purchasing surely allowed interested players in who are also responsible, no question about that. But there's no real real correlation between spending money and being responsible. We'd never be able to say with any accuracy one way or the other, but the adverts for the BWEs were all about getting access to play the game before anyone else, not to test it. So my suspicion is that more people were just there for the free game time. (Again, that can't be proven, just my instinct.)
I am talking about '' facts '', not personal opinion and I don´t really need to a give a good argument to what I have mentioned above since it is clear. However, I will explain it pretty simply:
When someone come here to Guild Wars 2 forums and post '' This is gonna fail '' and later on the same day, he/she opens a thread on another forums calling their game '' the best MMORPG up to date'', you should as a gamer notice that something is wrong. Entering this game´s forum, spamming with threads with no arguments at all, and later, praising another game, also with no arguments means one and only thing: you see Guild Wars 2 as the game that is hurting yours for some reason. This is how humans are, sadly. They want their game, car, job and even mobile to be the best, all others are shit.
I have said it many times, when you say that this game is shit, please give me a better title and the argument to that. There´s a different between personal opinion and rating. You can say that TSW looks better than Guild Wars 2, however, you can´t say that TSW has better graphics because that aspect isn´t rated by '' I don´t like fantasy mmos ''. There´s a different between, personal opinion and red flags.
I am still here btw, asking for a better title in the whole MMO-industry.
Think you got that backwards.
If you would have used two extra seconds to read what I have said, you will realize that what I meant is simply .. You can not consider a game to have better graphics just because you hate fantasy looking MMOs.
BTW .. There is only one MMO in the market with better graphics than GW2 and it is Tera, all other " this MMO looks much better " is just an opinion.
First one was backwards now your mixing apples and oranges Graphic are technical. Art is subjective.
Graphically speaking TSW is the most advanced mmo on the market. You may like the art in GW2 and Tera better though. Art can be debated graphics can not.
Originally posted by Teh_Axi Still butt hurt over Failcom fleecing you eh, if it makes you feel any better they will probably do it to the next generation of noobs too. In fact its happening right now with TSW.
TSW is in no way, shape, or form remotely like AOC was at launch nor is there raging over the game so not sure where you got this idea from. But you're about as wrong as you can get.
I should know considering I was around for TSW launch and the disgraceful fuckup known as the AOC launch.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

Just dropping in again to say I can't believe this thread is still going....
I was asking an honest question in a joking way....I'm not saying AOC = GW2....I was simply posing a question about the similarities between the 2 games in regard to later lvl content...and how both funcom and now ANET are keeping a lid on it...
Usually I don't really like to label people, but there are some seriously senstive fanboys in this thread....one even suggested im somehow a hypocrit for asking about GW2 lore and books....since I made this thread that according to this person shows my passionate hate for GW2.
Seriously guy AOC is not GW2, but the fact that both games hide later lvl/end game content before release is a fact. That being said I trust ANET way more then Funcom. But still they are a business and the priority is to make money...if something was off about later lvl content they would never tip that hand.
This question was asked of mmos before GW2 and it should be asked of GW2 aswell.

bcbully you are a min/maxer and love technical pvp we have argued this before about the secret world . You enjoy a challange and seem to be very competitive. I think you should just accept us fans and come on over to guild wars2 with us and then later on down the road you can come on here and compare the two games for pvp. I think you will enjoy the depth of builds also in guild wars 2 and see how fluid the flow of pvp is.
Did anyone see boobage on proud display during the BWEs?
Different selling points (nudge nudge wink wink).
