The shares Nexon purchased came from NCSoft's chairman and Co-founder with his blessings.

You are confusing Activision buying blizzard for the same thing as Nexom taking control of Ncsoft.
Morhaime did not go rogue and sell his shares. An agreement was made between the two companies which gave blizzard some rights in the transisiton.
Nice strawman you got there but this post makes zero sense.
Look, you said something without proper research (which google would have told you in 5secs /facepalm) and got called out.

It was a takeover. Friendly or Hostile can be debated. It was not a merger. There was no bid placed for NCsoft. Nexom went to the CEO who is a "friend" bought his shares and took over NCsoft.
Investopedia explains 'Takeover'
A welcome takeover is usually referring to a favorable and friendly takeover. Friendly takeovers generally go smoothly because both companies consider it a positive situation. In contrast, an unwelcome or hostile takeover can get downright nasty!
Interesting post, OP, but I think it's pretty much zero chance of it being anything you list in the poll.
Nintendo? That company is way too self-contained to ever allow themselves to be bought out. Besides which, I'd be seriously amazed if NCSoft had the financial clout to do so.
EA is a giant publisher. Just like with Nintendo, I highly doubt NCSoft has the funds necessary to do anything more than a merger with them - forget acquisition.
Of the three you list, I think Activision/Blizzard is probably the most likely... but then again, even with WoW slowly on the decline, the IP alone is worth an incredible amount of money, let alone WoW itself.
Another thing to consider is that NCSoft has only recently begun to see returns from their investment into Guild Wars 2, so financially they're at a low point right now.
Long story short, if it isn't an unfounded rumor, I think their target is much smaller.

Yeah, he doesn't know what a hostile takeover is or what controlling interest is. Controlling interest can be smaller than 50%, but it is decided by the company what that percentage is. Obviusly 14.7% is far too low in this case as it's likey 50% like you say at NCSoft.

Yellow: I guess this means you retract your previous statement regarding Nexon's purchase of NCsoft's chairman's shares to be a hostile takeover?
Now you're callingn it a favorable and friendly takeover. How is 14.7% a takeover?
Sure Nexon is the largest individual shareholder, but all it takes is for three people who own just 5% each to get together (agree on anything) and now they have more of a say than Nexon.
In other words: 3 people with 5% each (total 15%) vs Nexon with 14.7%... who wins?
Takover? I don't think so.
P.S. I don't know if there are 3 people with 5% of the stock each, the poinst of my example is to show the ridiculousness of bcbully's claim that 14.7% could be considered a takover.

They actually do have the clout.
I agree Nintendo is highly unlikely not because of price but rather I don't see NCSoft wanting to get into the console market just yet, but EA and Activision are actually both within NCSofts realms for acquisition/merger.
Bare in mind that Vivendi has been desperate to offload Activision for a long time, so it isn't outside the realms of possibilities.
Best theory I've seen so far is Funcom, however I'm not sure what NCSoft would gain from that purchase.
The reason why I listed the companies that I did in the poll is because they were mentioned in the gamebreaker article; that's all. I wasn't trying to impose any personal theory on anyone.

TOKYO, June 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- NEXON Co., Ltd. ("Nexon") (3659.TO), a worldwide leader in free-to-play online games, today announced that it has made a strategic investment in NCsoft Corporation ("NCsoft") (036570.SE), a global online game developer and publisher. Nexon today acquired 3,218,091 shares of NCsoft in a private transaction from Chairman, CEO, and Founder Taek Jin Kim at a price per share of KRW 250,000 in cash, for a total acquisition cost of KRW 804,522,750,000. As a result of this transaction, Nexon has become NCsoft's largest shareholder with a share ownership of 14.7 percent.
They would gain an DX11 engine with MMO implementation experience. A EU based Company experience with local (WEST) Publishers (EA). Western F2P experience.
Things NCSOFt direly lacks when you look at how Aion and Lineage2 performed here. But i personally don't think they will buy anything of that size.
If I read the news right NCsoft lost 6% because of their F2P MMO's, and they have already killed Aion, and GuildWars 2, I know that myself I am not spending anymore money in their games due to what they have done to them changing P2P to F2P even before going F2P charging insane amounts of money for customization, and then the Nexon merging if I heard that video right they are thinking about that even more of a reason to avoid NCsoft titles.
Personally I hope to see NCSoft make a wrong mistake and loose BILLIONS I will laugh when NCsoft goes completely out of business it would be my happy day because of all the failure I have seen in NCsoft it needs new leaders who can properly give consumers what they want and make MMO's fun instead of Pay for your Enjoyment the way it currently is.
This is like those people that want Funcom and TSW to fail. They aren't going to fail. They made a solid game and a lot of people like it. Did they get as many subs as they would have liked? No, but they are trying to keep adding content to the game and keep it relevant for it's fanbase.
GW2 is going to do fine. When was the last time you saw a major publisher go under by the way?

What I meant by saying Nintendo was self-contained is that I can't imagine them being willing, with their level of dedication to their own ideals, being willing to risk takeover by publicly trading a controlling share of stock. I could be wrong here, of course, but I'd be amazed if this ever happened. Though if it did, we might actually get a real controller from them again... hmm.
As for having the clout, I just don't see how that is possible. You're talking about one of the biggest worldwide gaming companies (Nintendo) versus NCSoft, which... has Aion? Guild Wars? CoH? Nintendo has probably sold near twice as many Wii units than all of those games combined (at 25+ million), not to mention actual games for them, or their other offerings. Even if the profit margin on the Wii units is much smaller, I still can't see NCSoft being in the running against them.

In the gamebreaker article they mentioned EA and Nintendo as examples of companies which are "down a little bit right now". I also believe it is unlikely that NCsoft will buy (m&a) Nintendo. I personally voted for Activision/Blizzard, more hoping than actual thinking, but oh well lol

Buying Funcom?
They would gain an DX11 engine with MMO implementation experience.
A EU based Company experience with local (WEST) Publishers (EA).
Western F2P experience.
Things NCSOFt direly lacks when you look at how Aion and Lineage2 performed here.
But i personally don't think they will buy anything of that size.
When was the last time you saw a major publisher go under by the way?
lul...
How can you explain controlling interest to someone when they refuse to listen to the definition of controlling interest?
It's quite alright. Many people have already tried to tell this dude that he is wrong but he apparently just can't stand the thought of making a misake and moving on lol
Smile
In the gamebreaker article they mentioned EA and Nintendo as examples of companies which are "down a little bit right now". I also believe it is unlikely that NCsoft will buy (m&a) Nintendo. I personally voted for Activision/Blizzard, more hoping than actual thinking, but oh well lol
