HoM is driving me insane!

DragonPop11DragonPop11 Member Posts: 25

Jeez, never expected it to be this hard, currently I'm sitting at 10 HoM with EotN and prophecies completed, awarding me 5 points in honor and fellowship. I'm struggling to make my prestige sets as I'm low on gold and having and even harder time getting miniatures and weapons. Anyone have any recommendations on what I can do to get out of this predicament.

Hey grats on getting 10 points.    I got to 6 and decided that between the awful game play that was GW and knowing that I have the full armor set, I didn't need any more.     There is simply too much that you have to complete before you can actually get anything good.

The way I look at it, they're just "skins".

Sure when the game is released the original GW players will be pretty happy with their looks.   In a few years, it won't matter because by then the rest of us will be pimped out as well ;-)

even if you make a decent amount of money everything is overpriced now because of the HoM

so yeah maybe dont bother , its just comestic , it wont affect your gameplay

the HoM is still here anyway you can come back anytime unless they shut down GW1

Do you have factions or nightfall? Some more easy points there if you do. If you only have prophecies and EotN, you'll be in for a tougher ride.

I did dungeon runs to get money for my last few minis - Hard Mode may require heroes though, not sure if henchies can cut it. Bring Light of Deldrimor, loot everything you can, sell all you get. I got 18k out of doing Frostmaw dungeon in HM and just selling drops. If you own all campaigns, you can get an easy point for the unique minipet if you do the scavanger hunt for Black Moa Chick. Also consider doing whatever zaishen missions, vanquishes and bounties you can find, you'll get a bit of cash as a bonus, and you can exchange the coins for z-keys and sell them.

My advice is farm the quart and aspen wood pvp zones and sell the keys. You get 5- 20k per hour. Use that to buy armors, pets, weapons and elite armors for you Heros. Also look at titles, there are a couple fun and relatively quick titles associated with dungeons like furnace.

I've been around since launch and I've only got 25 points. This is after actively working on the last 5 points.

Prestige armors are one of the hardest things to get.

Campaign completion is something easier. I farmed the challenge missions for a bit too.

Keep in mind that I have about 90% of the skills in the game and have a TON of flexibilty.

Play for fun. Play to win. Play for perfection. Play with friends. Play in another world. Why do you play?

^^ took me about 6 months casual play from jan this year to hit 30. About 7 hours a week.

I got to 7 in the last couple of weeks.

Sadly everything else except perhaps a couple more sunspear armour sets are out of reach for the playtime I have these days.

Outright stuck on EOTN trying to take down that big wormthat you have to kill with bombs etc no henchmen hero build is working for it and I just don't have the time to spend an hour or 2 pulling a group together,  Stuck on a weapon quest series also which I can't remember the name of starts at lions arch again just can't seem to get it done with my build and hero's henchmen.

I'm going to keep plodding on though quite enjoying it as I only played GW for a week or 2 at launch I was still heavily invested in SWG at that time so GW just never caught me.,

Enjoying the storys and the lore though so quite glad I decided to have a mess around prior to 2

I've made it to 17 points but that was with Nightfall and EotN. Most of my points are in fellowship (mainly because in nightfall it's easy to get armour upgrades for and have more heroes), if you roll a ranger it's 2 easy points getting a pet maxed and capturing black widow spider that spawns after one of the easier underworld quests. I also didn't have too much trouble getting a destroyer weapon and 3 armour sets.

If you run the dungeons in EotN (most of them are easily doable with heroes / henchies) with the light of deldrimor skill to find hidden treasures you just need to complete a few dungeons to get enough gold to be able to craft a destroyer weapon (though gems may be expensive or you can be unlucky that they don't drop) or some armour pcs. from the racial sets in EotN.

For example a few weeks back I ran 2 dungeons and was lucky on the treasure drops, there were quite a few gem drops which I sold and in total made 45K from just those runs.

What dungeons did you run? Fancied doing some myself.

All of them except Slaver's Exile, and I just ran them in normal mode because I have the minimal skills available to me (didn't capture all that many and just have Nightfall and EotN). Some were tougher than other.

I think the most treasure over all is in Frostmaw's Burrows and that one is fairly easy imo.

Don't forget to take the book with you to get some more rep. with whatever faction you prefe or want to reach rank 5 in to be able to craft armour, and some more gold when handing in. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Master_Dungeon_Guide

It took me exactly 30 days to get from 3 to 30.

First of all, you HAVE to have finished the 3 campaigns and EotN (it's more fun if you do it on 3 different characters like I did, but it's faster if you do them all on just one). That'll open up all the skills and places to get them, some rare pets, give you a nice amount of cash and enable the Beyond content. Also, you said you only did Prophecies? I find Nightfall to be the most "lucrative" campaign HoMwise and Factions the easiest to beat, if you feel like getting them.

    Anyway, here's some tips:

    - Do War in Kryta + Hearts of the North: that'll get you 2 oppressor weapons, dedicate one and sell the other for destroyer or tormented weapons.

    - Get only the cheapest armor: Marhan's Grotto, Granite Citadel and EotN reputation sets. Then, IF you think you can, go for Luxon.

    - Farm your own hero statues: for Nightfall and EotN only

    - Do the Black Moa Chick miniature quest: you need access to all campaigns, but it's cheaper than buying a unique mini.

    - Points by order of price (cheapest to most expensive): Opressor weapon > Destroyer weapon > First 20 white miniatures > Luxon Armor > Tormented weapon > Vabbian armor > Obsidian armor

    - Forget the PvP zaishen title, that's 1000 platinum. Sell all your zkeys.

    - Stop at 5 titles: Easiest titles are Hero of <campaign>, beating Fissure of Woe and beating Sorrow's Furnace (those two can be done with heroes only).

I've spent alot of ectos on my HoM points, mostly on the prestige armor sets and the weapons... It's really hard for a newcomer to get 30 hom points fast... But it's possible if you're willing to dedicate alot of your time to it.

My advice to you would be: first get a decent guild which can help you with getting dungeons done because they're easy to do when doing with people who done it before and it's some easy hom points to get. Then when you do every expansion story and you do all the missions you get hom points for doing them and then there's the extra points you can do in "Old Ascalon" or the before the charr took over (in prophecies when you start in that beautiful area) [The presearing]. You can get few hom points there but that's fairly hard to do because you have to reach level 20 there.

You should get minipets, which is again - hard, if you haven't been around long enough to get birthday presents (you get random minipet every year in that present for each character) so it means you have to buy them and they aren't cheap this days.

So, get a good guild (which'll be hard now 17 days before the release) and try doing some grinds to get the gold (you can do vaettir farming - check the youtube) and ofcourse, do all the missions in every expansion to get extra hom points. :)

First of all, there's this, if you haven't seen it:

    http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Hom_guide

HoM wasn't really meant to be grinded like this and, since you're both grinding and near GW2's release, getting points in it will be rather difficult. After 1200-ish hours of playing GW1, I had 22 HoM points and could get the remaining 8 in less than ten hours.

basically you are extremely late to the party. The party in fact is pretty much over now. So it is going to be very hard to score points especially if you only own proph and eotn.

Getting HoM weapons actually isn't that hard. With the expection of the tormented one. Keep doing dailies for the War in Kryta stuff and you will be able to fill out weapons without much hassle. It will take time of course, but that's about it. If you are doing dungeon runs in Eotn and have completed the campaign there then save up on onyx gems and diamonds to craft destroyer weapons.

As said if you do dungeon runs bring books to fill up. You can place your current book in storage and request a new one if you do multiple runs of one dungeon. If you are also trying to get max faction ranks in eotn than I would suggest to keep an eye on your current rank and how much exp you get from each books. I skipped a whole rank by turning in a book just before nm book wouldn't be accepted anymore due to being to high rank. This meant I only had to do 1 HM book run for each faction to max them.

Salvage everything for mats and sell the expensive ones. Do Zaishan dailies and save the coins you get selling them when you have gotten a few gold coins. This can ne used to fund armor buying.

To be honest though. Unless you really pour a lot of time into grinding for HoM points you won't get many more as I said it is simply to late . I have 50/50 and GWAMM, but I spend last year's summer and upto februari filling it out at a semi casual pace. I also had a shitload of gold, most armors and minipets ready to be put in from the get go.

Thank you everyone for the replies, I actually began playing guild wars sometime in April, but being extremely inexperienced in a world where soloing with help from henchmen was all you had, it got pretty irritating ha ha. I have all 3 campaigns, one char for factions another for nightfall. After experiencing factions annoyingly high difficulty, I settled with completing nightfall next. I'll do my best to follow the money-making strategies but I doubt I'll be making it to 30 before launch ( hopefully ill get 20 HoM points in), and will be content with whatever I get to.

    Thanks again

I feel your pain ;) have had gw1 since forever but never played it so started at lvl 1 with nothing done right after bwe 3. Currently at 18 aiming for 23 and it's been a full time job to say the least! I wish I had given gw1 another chance back when, actually enjoying it even though I'm rushing through it like I have something chasing me....

i recon in two weeks you could get the following

3 pts for having the  campaingns

    1 pt for mox

    2 pts complete factions

    2 pts black moa

1 pt buy any undedicated mini

then depending on money  you could buy 1 weapon and  a set of armour  to give u

    3 more pts

and maybe if you can  buy 3 hero armor for  2 more points

so it is possible for a starting player in 2 weeks to get 14 points  but would take a lot of work   or  a  load of help from others

    but its possible
