If the question is whether games will run as opposed to, say, making the computer spontaneously combust, then yes, usually.  If you want games to run well with the idea that you want to actually play them, then stay away from Intel graphics.

What's your budget, and is there some compelling reason why it has to be a laptop as opposed to a desktop?

    Hey quiz,
A guy around me is selling this asus http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/828004-REG/ASUS_G74SX_DH72_17_3_inch_Windows.html
He wants 1200 I can probably get him down to 1000 or so. What do you think? Better than the 700 built you showed me?

It will run some games. (most MMO's, mincraft etc)... but you won't be able to put any of the graphics on "high" and within a year or two it will be very outdated.

I know some people cannot, but if you can go with a desktop.. way more bang for your buck. But if it HAS to be a laptop. Look at some of Toshiba's stuff. Should be able to find a better deal with them. My wife has one of their laptops.. and has been very happy with it.

I'm not an expert or anything but the stats you have are not for gaming at all.
Stats you should look for gaming are: CPU at least 3.0+ Ghz, GPU at least 1G dedicated cards of AMD Radeon or Nvidia.

    Head over to http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/

It'll help you get a build going for your price range. On top of that on the side bar they have lists of some solid pc builds sorted by quality/price range.
