I'm sure there has been a post about this in the past, but now that new MMORPG's are out I thought I would bring it up.
Which game's music do you like the most (new or old)? I know this will vary depending on your style, but I'm interested. I've been looking to get some music together for a CD.
Lately I've found the Gate to Heavens music sorta catchy. Mostly due to the piano sound in it...I love the piano.
What do you think?

When i saw your title i got this nightmarish vision of a "World Idol Online" Mmorpg, where players are singing into a mic and the game interface is streaming it to the other players.
There was some nice background music in AO, with "plains" in it's title i belive.
I think FFXI has by far the best music of any MMO currently available. Of course that is just my opinion on the matter.
In War - Victory.
In Peace - Vigilance.
In Death - Sacrifice.
CoH was decent and varied.
Iron Lord was the best, still singing it 20 years later, please make it stop!
But, voice chat between group members is what will really matter, if they can figure it without lagging us to death!

Horizons has superb music.
I really enjoyed EverQuest II's musical content...the blending in and out was masterfully done.
I've become somewhat addicted to EVE online's music, though it's not entirely compelling by itself...highly suitable for the environment of the game.
I have an extremely nostalgic soft-spot for UO's original MIDI theme, which was redone in Age of Shadows (recycling the UO2 music). Most of the rest of its music, right now, isn't terribly good (in my opinion).
Most of the rest of the MMOGs I've played have forgettable or terrible music (again, in my opinion). I usually turn it off after hearing it a couple times.
A lot of MMORPGs have AMAZING music in them. It is one of the things I enjoy the most initially about a game.
The problem is, they don't record enough of it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not expecting them to record more.
It would take a LOT of music to keep me from getting sick of whats in the game in a few months, considering how much I play the games I'm into. Take SWG for instance. Just the other weekend, the wife and I watched episodes 2 and 6, and my head couldn't help but whip around to see if I left my game on everytime I heard the music.
For me, the best music in my MMORPGs is the "Music Off" button after a month or two.
My soundtrack is found in my playlist.
I really hope that *insert game name here* will be the first game to ever live up to all of its pre-release promises, maintain a manageable hype level and have a clean release. Just don't expect me to hold my breath.
I don't initially like MMORPG music and I think it can be much better. It is very bland, but out of all FFXI has the best in my opinion.

P.S. And UO's old midi theme -was- great at times. The music the game has now is -horrible-, if more technologically advanced, especially the combat music.

I really prefer to listen to my own music while playing, but FFXI had some good music. Non MMORPG related - Halo 2 had a really good sound track lol.
