The OP sounds reasonable to me. It also shows that TSW has some dedicated players.
Regardless, GW2 is B2P, so I think a lot of people will naturally keep GW2 and might also be interested in playing a non-fantasy mmorpg -- even if it has a sub. At least they might try it out.

Agreed. Even with WoW losing a couple of million subscribers, they are still boasting around 9 million subs. WoW is still the giant of the industry.
If TSW went B2P you'd have an uptick of players most definately, and I am actually surprised they didn't go that route out the gate. However, it's also coming to a point where they really missed an opportunity to get folks in and hooked before GW2 and MoP come out.
TSW is a good game. I just didn't enjoy it enough to justify a $15 a month. But B2P? Sure!
Probably wouldn't play it if it was F2P like Lotro though. That's a ripoff. Making you pay for certain quests, or talents, or weapons, or skills. Just bad.
Wow ;x are things really that bad for TSW? I hadn't really been following them.
I didn't find the game worth a sub fee either. GW2 will be launching with far more content without a sub fee, and I like the gameplay a hell of a lot better. At this point, games are going to have to be nothing short of ground-breaking to justify a sub to me.

There is only one assuption in this blog i dont agree to, There will not be to many players leaving GW2 after just a single month of play. I think most peopel will stick atleast a few months with GW2 and after that might become frequent returners.
Which makes the whole conclusion a bit lackluster.

A month to me sounds pretty reasonable. At least when hardcore MMO:ers are concerned. Maybe cutting it a wee bit too short (especially since MoP, the king of endgame expansion will launch sep 25). End of oct would probably be the smartest time to push for a relaunch.

I noticed on that post they were speaking of the GW2 hype dying down, and thusly giving TSW a chance to sort of surpass GW2. What I don't seem them doing is bringing up the fact that GW2 is buy to play. So I think the hype will last longer because when you buy the game that's it...no sub fees, no real need to use the cash shop and on top of that you have a game that has a lot of content fresh out the gate.
If the devs at GW2 decide to update on a regular like Trion (Rift) then TSW and WoW I believe will have a significant problem.
Hell between one bwe and the next they added vistas...what was that like a month or so inbetween...come on. GW2 is about to mess the standards up make no mistake about that.
i think we saw this on another post...that with GW2 the account counting system is different...they count the client sales, now after you buy it if you stop/pause/or keep playing it doesnt matter...your purchase is what matter and this is how they count the game population. So even after few months we wont be able to say that subs went down or not...all we will have to listen and believe (if we want to) is what everyone says in here :P

Is TSW loosing subs or something? If not this post seems a bit off.
I think the thread is just a reaction to the negativity that stems from the Funcom Investor Update.
You wouldn't by chance have a link to the update or have read it and can give a general idea of what it was about? I'm assuming TSW didn't sell as much as hoped or something?

Being b2p also makes it easier for people to "jump ship"

Depends. Supposedly Anet already has had a separate team working on additional content while another polishes up to prepare for launch. If they can push content out pretty quickly, neither TSW nor MoP is going to stand a chance. I don't see it happening though, even being optimistic the first content update is probably 3 months away. A month is too short, I'd say within 2 the hype will die down and GW2 will have the population levels it can reasonably expect to carry it through, with updates spiking those populations temporarily.
But then I could be wrong. I plan on playing more than 2 months pretty heavily, maybe lots of others are, too.

I can see your point however I would add that I don't think people are as fickle as that. Keep in mind we are all looking for a steady place to call home. That's the appeal I would think of an MMORPG. I would say they are the same GW2 and TSW as well as WOW. From what I played of TSW it reminds me of TOR in that it feels like a story pushing you forward. If that is the core dynamic I don't think that will keep people long term. That being said I think GW2 adds just a bit more with the added bonus of being buy to play. Just dont think anyone is looking to abandon ship on any game so I think for GW2 it will be harder if a bit weird. Lol with GW2 you can get back on the ship any time you please and still be relatively progressive.
This is all my opinion however. Personally TSW has only been out what a month...two maybe. Seems rather hasty but then again what do I know.

heh. tsw is definitely going to make a push around halloween. and between that, gw2, and mop, and various other hype machines getting rolling (ps2, rift xpac), AND the latest batch of f2ps (vanguard, swtor, possibly tera) i think between now and new years is going to be an interesting time. and by interesting i mean "what i wouldn't give for a holocaust cloak."

Thanks for the link. It was an interesting read. Also read some of the comments by the players. They have some valid points. Me personally I like the lore and potential of TSW but not so much the combat animations and the side ways movement of the characters. I'm not sure going F2P so quickly is a good idea either however I wonder since they have a cash shop are they already in place to do so.

I dont know, but the guy makes a lot of sence.
And if the game would be relaunched as B2P aswell - i think it would be win situation for Funcom
I can agree with this, if the game went B2P I'm sure the population would rise. But hopefully funcom at least reduces the box price

It's losing a lot of subs, mainly due to extreme lack of content

When will people understand that games will ALWAYS be in the shadow of another.
Im willing to assume gw2 will be threatened by another unseen game in the near future instance.
