i was actually waiting to see when mmorpg.com would post this info as it's been out for a lil bit now.
but on topic, i think it's a pretty good deal overall. really looking forward to GW2 and have toned down my Rift gameplay, but i'm really looking forward to storm legion.
im not currently playing RIFT but personally i think its a great deal
$120 gets you a year of playtime and all new content
if WOW offerered something similar,
Blizzard would be hitting up players for $156.00 (the price of Annual pass: two 6 month subs)

If you're locked into the $99 a year plan (or any discounted annual plan) then you'll maintain that subscription price as long as you keep an active sub even if you're not charged again for the next 18 months
This is a special stand-alone offer of Gametime+Game+Free Items separate from your standard subscription rate.

Though I'm not playing Rift (waiting on GW2 release) I do find myself cheering for them. I have never seen a studio pump out so much quality content in such a short a time. However, I always get nervous when Companies start coming out with gimmicks like these to keep their playerbase... should I be concerned for them?
Crazy Boring game, but Crazy Smart salesreps they have. However, I'm concerned about RIFT's population when I tried rift over the weekend, and found that a "Heavy" populated server was as scarce as SWG was before the "Fall". Wonder if everyone is just running instances making the game feel dead?
Regardless, I was literally bored to Tears. I wonder if I'll give Vanguard a shot this weekend :O?

its good that you took time to read post above you.. oh wait..
Are you sure you played Rift, because there are people everywhere on my server. The game is not boring, and offers a ton of end game things to do. Sorry you don't like it, good luck with what you do end up playing.
On that note, this offer is doing very well. I see the new mounts running around everywhere. Very nice Trion!
I suppose better wording would be:
pay for an additional 12 months + we will toss in the expansion and a mount!

so then you're buying the expansion for 120$ and get the one year of Rift for free? buy one burger and get the second free? buy one and get another of equal or lesser value for free? where are you from that this isn't the norm?
Not sure how this deal is lame. I did it. I had 3 months left on my subscription. I paid the 119.99 now I have 15 months of play, the expansion when it releases, some more exp potions the most awesome mount in game and some new head piece. How is that lame?
^^ How does this make any sense? You would have to pay the sub fee regardless and even that is discounted here...
So month by month sub payment would be ~179.88 for a year and the expansion would be 60 for a grand total of 239.88. So the discount on the year sub and the expansion save you ~120 dollars.
Bad deal is bad right?
Is that how you really view it? Really?
Here is something posted BY Trion for 2012: 'The new plans are actually rather competitive, asking a mere $99 USD for a entire year's worth of Telara madness.".. This is one fact brought up by the one poster.. He is now being asked to pay 120 a year instead of his current "99" a year.. So how is the expansion free? It looks like he's paying 20 bucks for the expansion this year, and then paying MORE for the sub each year after.. This is a deal? or just sugar coating a price increase?
WoW did offer something similar- pay for a year, get D3 for free.
You make quite a poor argument. The $99 a year only applies to the people who are locked in with the founders price or there was a period of time where they lowered pricing a bit. You realize the amount of people that get annual subs are the minority right?
Why on earth would a company keep lowered prices right before they are going to get an influx of players due to the expansion? That would be awful business. They went back to their original pricing, which is on par with the rest of the MMO with subscription market.
Personally, myself and the ~20 people from my guild that are going into this with no sub to RIFT will be saving $120 bucks.....so yep. That is exactly how I look at it.
Definitely a smart move for Trion. Its kind of funny that we dont even know a release date or a price for the expansion, we do know it will be cheaper for those who already bought Rift (Id bet $50 for the expansion/vanilla package and $30 for those who already have Rift).
But there are going to be a lot of people with a sub much longer than they will be paying for. A year is such a long commitment, especially when a game like Rift when the people that stay subbed for a year at a time are few and far between. I also bet they are getting a few people to resub early because, even if they will be spending the next 3-4 months before SL release in Tyria or Pandaria before coming back for SL
it is similar but would be more relevant if WOW offered MOP for free

WoW was also more flexible, allowing one month/3 month/6 month subs to be included in the deal for those who couldnt afford the one time fee. I am pretty sure it also counted sub time already paid for for those on multi month subs, which trion does not.
I am honestly surprised Blizzard did not offer this, after they did so with D3. I think they would garner alot more returning players if they did. The announcement that anyone can play the races I do not feel is enough to lure a large amount of former players back. Another thing that shocks me is that they do not include all the previous expansions and base game with the expansion for new players. I know they usually discount the base game and former expansions near/after launch of a new expansion, but expecting a new player to pay for all of that is just to much imo nowadays.
Cheers!

i checked - you are correct
but getting a free copy of a different game isnt the same as getting a free expansion for the mmo you are playing
