Now that the NDA has been lifted you'll start to see more info...
Just last night, I was part of a massive base defense/seige at the edge of two of the races zones. Bases have different types of defenses, the one we were playing on last night had shield generators which prevented the "zerg" from rushing in. Not to mention the numerous gun cannons around the base which were and easy way to target any players trying to break in.
We did get the occasional jet pack jumper inside that tried to take out the shields, but as soon as a shield went down we had a tight defensive team that would jump to fix it and find the sneaky one.
Of course we also had a lot of people trying to advance on the enemies small base north of us, which wasn't as defensive as ours but they had a really good defensive team and kept us at bay as well.
If I had to guess I would say that there were at least 40 vs 40 if not more in that area and that was just one part of the map. I got there easily after spawning and selecting "instant action" which is a cool feature that takes you to places that are seeing fights (you usually get an option of 5 or 6).
Also, the engineer has a certificate for a "Stealth suit" it's just not ingame right now (as well as many of the certs) because it's BETA and they seem to be testing specific things a little at a time.
I have to say that the addition of zones, and timers for capture have helped to create a 'front' and to make it hard to backhack. It only really seems to happen now if people just dont care (i.e. no one shows up).
It is also correct that the use of forcefields and other movement deterrents slow down the zerg style capture. You have to use some basic tactics to take a base.

Why do you keep giving out this false information? It puts the rest of your post into question. There is no engineer stealth suit, it's not on the list of certs, it's never been on the list of certs, it's a strictly Infiltrator based ability that will never be seen on other classes. Quit trying to get people excited about something that doesn't exist.
15-minute base caps are epic in P1. If these are reduced to capture the flag in PS2, I am not interested. Bridge battles were epic in PS1, if bridges are mainly for scenery in PS2, I am not interested. Water is life; No water in PS2 = ugly landscape. Didn't PS1 toy with the idea of having water vessels?
The current state of PS2 sounds less like progress and more like regression. Note I said "current" so don't waste time expounding what it *might* be like after beta tuning.
What I had hoped for with PS2 1. Water-only vessels 2. Improved graphics 3. Different geography (since we know P1 geography by hart (pun))
I hate that there are no AMS and BFRs. Seriously doubt I will be playing.
Luckily, i don't need you to like me to enjoy video games. -nariusseldon. In F2P I think it's more a case of the game's trying to play the player's. -laserit
OP has a point. I remember sieging trying to push back the onslaught and MAX units locking down tunnels with repairers at their backs. I will never forget holding the basement with my corp once we were the last line of defense with the terran pushing down it felt like that opening scene in star wars except we won and saved the princess err I mean the base.
I also remember sieging the walls it was really good fun.
The other thing that is bugging me, I swear I used to move faster things seem to move really slowly in this game or maybe its the fact that Ive played too much tribes.
Regardless this does feel like a battlefield planetside hyrbid for sure. Ill still probably play it.
Only light assault really can jump a wall. Thats hardly enough firepower to take a base. I play infiltrator 95% of the time, but if I ever get zerged by light assault flying over walls i change to a MAX and end that rq.
Its all relative. There are just new tactics to replace the old ones.

There were water vehicles in the sense that some land vehicles were water capable, e.g. magrider, deliverer, thunderer, raider and so on.
So far my whole experience in-game has been pretty much me joining a squad of guys in a Galaxy and soft capping defenseless towns (which they will take back in 10 minutes). Sure, there's an occasional big battle every now and then but that's essentially all I ever do.
Perhaps I'm just playing the game wrong? I admit I haven't joined an outfit yet.. but I do participate with squads and try to be vocal on the mic whenever I can.

pay attention to the TR moving to a small base and defending it, compared to VS mindlessly lone wolfing/zerging across the bridge to the base.
you can still say vehicleside, but if your going against a sizeable group with a plan then your just wasting your time and resources (i.e. the VS in this fight)
VS not working together effectively to push across to the base, let alone taking another route to hit the base on the other side.

I did have fun with the land mines though!

Yeah, I was wondering that myself.
