You are aware that GW2 is b2p, and therefore isn't going to steal subscribers from wow, right?
Actually that has nothing to do with anything. People aren't going to maintain WoW subscriptions simply because GW2 is B2P. If they stop playing WoW because off GW2, most people will cancel their subscriptions.
i have quit wow for like 3 mounths, and i got back in the game, in that break time i try to play some MMO's like TERA and GW2 beta and much more, nothing is like wow, i dont feel robbed in anyway, for 12 euro a mounth or 30 - 40 euro for a expansios is not much to pay. Yeah u got lots of thinks to lvl faster but the fun part is at lvl max when u try to get the best gear for raids, and when u get a good team and go in heroic raids, for me thats the fun part. So i cant wait for MOP to come on, i will make myself a big ass bruce lee panda to kong fu and shit. ))
I can see an all in one package released in the future. This change in policy with races may be the start of that. A DVD box with all the content except Pandaria as the standard game.
See I don't think it will make 'much' difference to Blizz.... And I do think that GW2 is getting overhyped... Don't get me wrong, it's pretty good.... But it's not as amazing as everyone keeps going on about. I expect it to keep me interested maybe a couple of months before 'insert next overhyped MMO destined for f2p greatness here'...
I don't think I'll be joining the WoW players however as I gave up the game a while back...
This is actually a pretty smart move (and not uncommon, just look at the bundle deals from EQ games over the years) since it will draw people in and make them more likley to get the expansions needed to play mist if they do not allready have them and a nice way to give the people who do not want o get mists something new to play with.
Everybody wins... so to speak. (apart from the "no panda" people but they lost several year ago.)
And i agree to the "people can play more then one game at the time" and the fact that GW2 is B2P will in the end cause it to take less subs from Blizz in the long run then a sub game would. It will otoh take a fairly good chunk out of the concurent online users numbers and that will be the interesting numbers when MoP hit.
Hmm this neat sort of like Guild Wars 2 a buy to play game lol. So how many times was Guild Wars 2 mentioned already in the above posts? This is a thread about wow, if you want to talk about GW2 then make a thread somewhere else and talk about the professions which are charr, Norn, human, Asura, and sylvari. The weapons and skills aquired through weapons along with the ability to swap out between two weapon sets on the fly during combat and how that mixes things up to keep them guesssing, in the other thread you also might mention things like how the game is buy to play, and that wvwvw is a part of it, and how gems work. You might mention the crafting, the down mechanics, the lore, the combat mechanics, guns ( sorry I like guns ) dungeons, no freaking healers. This,is a thread about wow though.... So let's keep it relevant. With that, wow is an 8 year old game, they have raids, and it costs money every month to play and its loaded with 5&6 year olds and about 75% of the servers have a population of 100 or less people, but now you can play as a panda all by yourself. See this, was relevant.

They don't it was bad wording by Blizzard, what they meant to say was that you will no longer require an expansion to play new races. Pandarens will not be playable until MoP is released however you will "not" have to buy MoP to play a Pandaren when the game releases. Blizzard cleared this up not long after the forums caught fire with questions, however news many news sites have not updated their announcements.
Here the CM quote for those who don't like to click links:
"I've seen some confusion about when pandaren character creation will be accessible.
Just to be clear on the announcement, we're making it possible for people to create a character of any race, regardless of what expansions you've purchased. So if you only have the original game (which now has The Burning Crusade included), when patch 5.0.4 hits you'll be able to create goblin and worgen characters as well. And, once Mists of Pandaria is released, you'll be able to create pandaren characters, regardless of whether or not you own Mists of Pandaria.
So it says all races, what about though all classes? Just because Pandaren become available for play regardless if you have MoP or not, does this include the new monk class?
No, you'll need to upgrade your World of Warcraft license to Mists of Pandaria in order to unlock the monk class. The same is true for leveling from 85-90 and gaining access to the continent of Pandaria."
Because flying a Minmatar ship is like going down a flight of stairs on an office chair while firing an Uzi.
But imagine this, you are a long time player, purchased all of the expansions to play the races when they became available or be locked out from them and you spent all of that money to do so. Now newbies can do that for nothing. lol, I feel like I've been robbed.
But yeah, perhaps it will retain some people, attract more subs, a good move since they are losing subs (down to just over 9 milliion according to the last financial report).. sensing a little desperation here too, but not a total panic switch to f2p level yet.
I paid $80.000 for my car when it first came out....now after so many years you bought it 2nd hand for $5000...
I feel robbed.
"going into arguments with idiots is a lost cause, it requires you to stoop down to their level and you can't win"
Ok to those that don't seem to get it... What they are doing is just making all RACE payable.. BUT to play the MONK class, access the 85-90 content, and higher talents etc.. You need the xpac
This was going to happen later anyway, they just moved up the feature. I love how competition forces certain issue, because while Gw2 is B2P they are both vying for our playtime and money..
Also make note this is the cheapest xpac yet, so yea competition is good even if wow is just trying to stabilize its sub rate from falling too fast, not necessarily because of Gw2 but because of other factors too..

Here here.
They should just do away with these silly expansions and let their precious subscribers enjoy all current and future content for no additional cost.
