So basically if we make a seperate terms for Wow and Wow clones. And still do not make any "quote quote mmorpg" you guys will be happier?
It's just terminology. If you have a problem with it, tell the staff of this site to remove 90% of the mmorpg game list.
The problem is you guys don't have games to play. Developer isn't developing games you like.
The developers aren't developing MMORPGs, yes that is indeed the problem.
ya but wow is a mmorpg, and so is all the wow clone. they are called mmorpgs. So you are wrong.
I'm going to release a game in third person without guns, and call it an FPS.
You'll be wrong to say it isn't!
you don't need to convince me. You need to convince other people in the world. If like 99% of the people consider wow as a mmorpg it is a mmorpg. If you can convince 99% of the people in the world that a game in third person without guns is fps go for it.
Apple is called apple for a reason. Because people understand what an apple is when someone say apple.
If you want to start a revolution, please submit a ticket to the staff of mmorpg.com and tell them to remove 90% of games in their game list. I'll accept I'm wrong when you can convince other people in the world.
That makes absolutely zero sense, way to dodge the counter argument.
err ok. If you don't consider wow as a MMO. Please dont' use it in your own post. And please dont' indirectly imply all those wow clone as MMO in your own post. Try reading all 58 of your own post, I believe you directly or indirectly called all those games MMO yourself.
Originally posted by Boradin5011 It was always MMO = MMORPG to me. However, WoW took out the RPG. Now theres a difference.
MMO isnt just MMORPG.
MMO consist of Persistent world,
because you can have
MMORTS
MMOFPS
MMOTPS
MMOSB
as well as MMORPG.
the MMO part is the same. the rest is what makes the gameplay.
Yeah but this is where i have to agree with the op. Because mmorts arent really mmo its like um... age of empires you goto online it matches you up and you fight it isnt masive it should really be named like
Lobby Multiplayer Online Real Time Strategy same with all fps except face of mankind, and a couple others. Once i hit a lobby i dont consider it massive because i need to know that 200+ people can fit into that are for it to be massive.
An MMO to me means that the game is strictly online and with some form of social hub in a playable area.

To me it means grindfests which have gameplay mechanics from a decade ago. Singleplayer/other nonpersistent multiplayer games have mechanics which make MMOs look like Solitaire.

for me it really depends on the letters following the MMO... For me a MMO is any typ of game that let people connect over the internet. Plain and simple, wether it is a lobby or massive world. It does have to go beyond co-op though... there need to be a dedicated online feature.
Ofc the important factor for me is the designation of genre and what goes where. I am not a purist (the group of people claiming that the only thing that is a MMO is massive open world with no instancing and yadda yadda so on and so forth.) but in my mind there need to be a massive part in it. a lrge amount of people nedd to be able to connect and there need to be some form of interaction, but i am a lot more lax on a MMO FPS then i am on a MMORPG... Any way the most important thing is that i have accepted that i have no ownership over the term and that it will have a different meaning for the next generation then it had for me.
Massive? Only important in having a deep market in AH, and many players to match from (thus, no waiting when you lfg). A 50-50 instanced battle has more toons on screen at one time can i can count, so having more does not add to the fun.

All seriousness, it really means to me
1.A place where i can forget about my real life for a couple of hours.
2. Just Have fun.
3. No Boss mods (unpredictibility)
4. A challange to play.
5. A sense of accomplishment in my fantasy world.
6. Meeting new people from around the world via gaming.
7. Close nit community.
8. And many more things.

Thats it for me, hands down winner.
massive multiplayer for me means thousands of people playing togeather on one server...
I do not think games like WOT, MWO and others count as MMOs
