Since this has been such a hot topic just wanted to give an example of a raid sample in GW2. This is not a max level boss this is around level 60 stuff. AGAIN not level 80 stuff here only 50-60 range stuff
Another video of same fight with better commentary
videos do NOT have proper difficulty scaling they are old demo videos.
personally for me I never was a raider type so being able to jump into massive battles without worring about specific meet up times and hoping you get everyone to show up is a huge plus for me. I enjoyed the open world boss types in Rift and this is a step forward from that so anyways.. enjoy
here's 2 videos showing low level stuff with proper scaling to show difficulty in fights a little better
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGbY8s_r6NE#t=5m42s
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIvyUUFNiH8
and for comparison a Cata raid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hT2epGABRsE in case anyone needed a reminder
another wow raid since the one I posted above wasn't "good" enough http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cc0kfS8-KB0
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

I wish you never showed me this so I could have been surprised.
As to WHY you posted it, I think it should definitely be considered an open world raid.
Edit: Also, I was reading that it scales from 10 - 100 people. In case anyone was wondering about that.
So we get ''open world'' raids with scalable bosses and any1 can join.
Wonder when haters gonna come and yell its not fixed number of players its not instanced !!! who is tanking him !!! where is healer !!!!
I don't think thats what raiders is worried about. I am quite sure that the ones that have looked into the info about GW2 have realised that there will be epic fights. And any so called raider that has not researched things through, can hardly be considered a real raider. It's all the other stuff being part of being a raider they worries about.
But basicly raiders is such a small group in mmos. They are just very vocal, maybe because of the elitarian status they have in other mmo's. But in a mmo as GW2 where every design choice is about not seperating the playerbase, there is just not much space for that elitarism. And that understandeble must worry some off them.
heh wasn't trying to start that up again just wanted to give people a short sample video for those who hadn't seen one in GW2 yet

For some reason GW2 always gave me the feeling that it's motto was [mod edit].... I guess the easy mechanics of PQ's or DE's or whatever they are called, no roles, and anonymity in PvP are examples of this.
I do hope the game gets more difficult as you progress, or don't progress as they seem to shun progression as well.
only one of many and not highest level ones so you will have plenty of suprises coming your way:)

As to not make it worse for you I won't link the other outdoor raid that is in Aerowyn's vidoe library.
I agree that these types of raids are more worthwhile to me than standard ones. Not that I mind standard ones but these seem a bit more chaotic, what I would expect from an encounter like this.
I do hope that future boss fights have the bosses move around a bit, mybe destroy a few cannons where you have to rebuild them.
game has plenty of progression.. and try looking at the explorable mode dungeons for some hard challanges. Not much info on the later open world bosses but heard they offer quite a good challenge as well.. This is also just a demo and an old one at that doesn't really show how easy or hard this fight will be.

Charming.
People don't get rewarded for just showing up. They get rewarded based on their level of participation in the event.
Those that spend the entire encounter face down in the dirt because they stood in fire don't get the same goodies as everyone else.
"Loading screens" are not "instances".
Your personal efforts to troll any game will not, in fact, impact the success or failure of said game.
Search other vids of this ''raid'' u can see minions are constantly attacking cannons and huge laser thing, if other players dont protect it, raid will fail hard.
Since you seem interested you should watch some of these.

During BWE2 the normal content was just right difficulty wise. Something was up in the system for BWE3 and things were easier. It's supposed to have been fixed now.
Oh, yeah those parts were great with the tenticles knocking you about and such. I'm talking about the boss itself. It's not a huge deal for me but if I was to comment on the encounters that's what I would point to in the improvement catagory.
You will die more in this game than your typical AAA game. It is very challenging to say the least.
I'm not sure about the retard part, but if you can make room in the back of the little yellow bus I will ride with you!
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
Wait, so this game DOES have raids!?
F*cking Wow Clone.
"Gypsies, tramps, and thieves, we were called by the Admin of the site . . . "
I posted this video and 3 others all from low level 15+ open world raid boss content to some a litlte higher, just seemed to be ignored.
I'm glad you made a complete thread on this because sooooo many people seem so intentionally ignorant when it comes to Guild Wars 2 and Raids.
The game has PLEANTY of raid content for those like myself that love raids but don't want to be restricted to whom I take with me. The battles at higher level have something for everyone, the less capable can help the NPC's rebuild cannons or something while the hardcore raiders coordinate attacks, breaking barriers, so on and so forth.
The simple fact that it doesn't restrict the access and those who contribute ALL get rewarded not just ONE person out of the entire group makes it incredibly appearling to me.
Then the complete epicness and attention to detail these battles have is just amazing. At its current state the lower level open world Raid content is top notch and I know it just has room to improve for things to come.
I'd say post more example videos Aerowyn like you did with the compelation but this being more specific :P just make sure to put a huge SPOILER allert !!! ^_^
There are mini boss raid fights in all starter zones such as the Shadow Behemoth in the human queensdale and such.

My PC Specs:
i5-3570k oc'ed @4.2GHz
8GB 1600 RAM
GTX670 oc'ed @ 1.25Ghz
Samsung 830 SSD.
It looks nice but it also didnt seem very complicated or difficult.
Range down dragon and adds, destroy walls, use catapults and lasers to kill. Bada bing bada boom dead dragon.
The video is edited but I didnt see the PoV person really do much. A lot of running around shooting his rifle and the occasional catapult.
So, is that really anything to be proud of? Anyone can join in the epic raid fight versus the bid bad undead dragon but dont worry about having to do anything because we wouldnt want you to feel left out. If these epic raid events actually required you to do something then that would be elitism and thats bad. Everyone gets a gold star.
this is a demo video not regular players just playing the game.. so wouldn't get caught up in how easy it was...

Proud of? Do you derive self worth from defeating a typical WoW raid?
They're supposed to be fun and they are part of the open world. This is a part of the freaking leveling experience, not some crazy difficult hard mode raid boss.
If a person is only able to derive enjoyment from raiding in the traditional sense, then GW2 is likely not the game for them. However, GW2 will probably make a fine game for people that do not exclusively raid.
Evidently you dont understand there is more than just hardcore raiders which is what you described. To say "raiders" are a small group is pretty funny. People seem to like to raid. There is plenty of info showing just how many people raid in WOW. But there are diffrent types. Anywhere from the casual that raids once or twice a week and whatever they kill, they kill all the way up to the hardcore that will raid 7 days a week 5-6 hours a day (minimum) untill they have everything on farm.
Being a raider has nothing to do with eliteism either. A casual who only plays a game once a week can be elitist. I dont know why you have such misguided hate twords raiders but you are completely off the mark.

I preorded and played the BWE's, stress tests ect. I fully agree most players will die more in GW2 then in a typical AAA game due to the dodging mechanic and most MMO players being used to the normal combat and having a healer heal them and a tank protect them.
I also noticed that getting quest updates ect only required that I score a hit on a mob and then allow anyone else to do the rest of the work. This is good in the sense that I hate camping mobs for updates. Bad in the sense it will breed a lazy gamer.
as opposed to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9h5Trc8A9ME ?? either way like I said the GW2 video is a early demo vid look at the upload date.
Many raid bosses don't move much in most games.. they usually have a couple mechanics that make them do big movements a couple times but not much besides that... I see more movement in low level world bosses in GW2 then many top level Raid bosses in many other MMOs
