- self heals and no clearly defined tank/healer class (everyone is pretty much the DPS role with minor variations)
(adds to the individualistic nature of each character and thus creates a more arcade feel, similar to playing the old X-men arcade game with three friends, where you were essentially 4 self-reliant individuals and not 4 operational teamates who relied on each other completely)
I think what the OP is trying to say is that the game is, and I agree, more similar to MMOs such as Champions Online and DC Universe than games such as Rift, WoW, the Everquest series, or DAoC.
Saying "It must be too complicated for you OP, you just can't handle it" (or anything along those lines) doesn't really prove anything right and definitely doesn't prove him wrong.
Honestly, i'm not sure if i'm going to buy the game either, but I might give it a chance. It doesn't have a monthly fee after all.
The game is really good. Great quests. Interesting combat system. Unique world.
Where it really fails however is in grouping. Yeah instanced dungeons are fine. What I'm talking about is I have a buddy and we like to play together. World quests are mostly ok but there are many instances while questing. All of these instances are single player. Really breaks up your grouping when questing is constantly interupted with single player instances.
Two things in my opinion are needed in this game as high priority.
1. Make all single player instances work with a group. Make all quest updates work with a group. Some things give group updates but some don't and the click item is sometimes on a freaking timer... So you gotta wait till everyone gets it. Instances should take the group just like dungeons. Maybe even add a few hitpoints to the mobs to up the difficulty a little.
2. Add a lfg tool for instances. Everyone yelling in LFG channel is getting old. It also isn't much fun sometimes trying to get a group. Just doing the lfg yell thing discouraged making the effort.
Oh while I'm at it one more thing. The light and dark tokens. PLEASE give some items that can be purchased with one of the other not require both all the time. I'm not a fan of PVP and it's frustrating I have all these white marks that serve no purpose.

Hey OP, Guess what game fixed all these issues you hate. You got it.
Anyone can join any DE, Karma purchases all sorts of items. EDIT: Oh, and sidekicking down to your friends ensures you can always play together. Forgot that one.
Am i doing it right?
+1 Toxia well stated, looks like we may have a new recruit into guild wars 2 if he/she listen to this wisdom.
Just skip the green part it aint needed it kills communication with other players and apparently guild wars 2 is lacking that, it have been noticed in the stress tests ( you know when people are busy getting their fix of gw2 ^_^ )
Then I read about the combat... Sounds arcade like and nothing like a normal MMO. Everything about the game sounded great up till I read the combat. I also saw a video with a jumping puzzle.
I hate jumping puzzles even more. Hate game console style play.
So alas this game isn't for me.
Seem like you dogde a bullet. I'm also not a fan of jump puzzles. Platformers have made break into a cold sweat. It's not deal breaker for me. I figure I'll die alot but at least I'll get over my aversion to platform jumping.
Seems with every mmo some people come up with something that they find to complain about that I simply cannot relate to.
Appears it is going to be combat with this one. Can't say I see what the problem is. The combat seems fine to me. Actually fairly fluid compared to some mmos out there.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

I'm still trying to understand how the "combat is not like a normal mmo". Why? Because you can move around while using abilities? Dodge attacks? Really? That is a problem?

Phew, just the other day I was telling people how worried I was that you might not decide whether to buy this one game or not. Very glad you have made a final choice, and have the guts to let everyone in the world know.
Now, I hope you will go into each of the other hundred odd forums on here and let everyone there know if you have yet decided to buy that game too. You owe it to them man, they are concerned!

In TSO we dodged just as a big attack was coming and quickly used to active dodge to avoid damage. No big deal. I assume it's the same idea in GW2. I don't want another stand there and press 1, 1, 1 2, 1, 3 and sometimes 4 game.

The combat is your basic mmo tab target combat except the attacks have line of sight type damage.. so you fire a fireball and it will hit the first thing in its way, this also allows characters to dodge things.. but it does not really chagne the feel of the combat too much as it still plays like a tab target game..
Dont buy it from their site as its silly expensive pick it up from a 3rd party.. well thats the case in the UK anyway..
Haha you're right OP, GW2 (in my opinion, I can't stress that enough) was very arcadey. Infact, I can even imagine it being played at an arcade with one of those sticks to move, dodge and 10 buttons for skills, there's even talk about it coming out on consoles. Seems quite arcadey to me... Nothing wrong with that if that happens to be your fancy.
Then I read about the combat... Sounds arcade like and nothing like a normal MMO.
lol, like a "normal" MMO xD
So a "normal" MMO for you is copy-pasting that 10 years old, overcrowded skill bar ? Actually, that's why GW2 is meeting such a success : because it decided not to be a "normal" MMO
p.s : why do you people feel the need to create topics about how uninterested you are ?

I hope you didn't just read about the combat when there are hundreds of videos available.
Actually, you don't come off as sincere.
I'm sorry you feel that way.
I am sincere I was going to buy the game as I'd read about it some and it sounded interesting and I play a lot of mmorpg games. Then I saw something on the order page about active combat... That gave me pause to do a bit more reading and I did watch a youtube video showing some jumping quest in what looked like space or something...
I like a good story oriented RPG style game with plenty of strategy and tactics and good group play. I love the dynamic open group type things which really is what initially got me excited about this game. However I don't like PvP, bunny jumping, or like I said, console style game play, where it's more about reaction times and coordination then about conventional RPG gameplay.
I prefer combat synergies, esp with groups, developing abilities, leveling up, getting new equipment and gear, running instances with friends, and a good solid story. Good graphics, interesting combat tactics with well scripted encounters, good variety in terms of graphical environments.
I understand what your saying OP but it seems like you want GW2 is all about but are hung up on the smaller aspects of the game. The jumping puzzles, for instance, are added things to do and I don't think skipping them would negatively effect you in any way. The combat is not 30 buttons like WoW or EQ2 but the functionality is a little hidden.
Engineers have kits that change the five left buttons when you use them. Counting your main weapons if you had three kits you would have a total of 20 abilities that can be just on that left side.
Elementalists are the same way with attunments. You cannot swap weapons in combat but the left buttons will change if you select another element (buttons just above the 5 left ones).
These are just two examples. Buy what you see fit but from what your saying GW2 could be a game you'd enjoy.

There are "combat synergies," different proffessions can combine their skills. For example, an elementalist can lay down a fire wall and a ranger can shoot their arrows through it. Because the arrows pass through the fire, they catch on fire and do extra fire damage to whatever you're attack. There's lots of things like that.
There is leveling, you level to 80 and can keep leveling up past that (although it will never show you as being higher than level 80 or add to your attributes) to obtain skill points which you can use to unlock abilities and craft legendary weapons. There are many ways to obtain upgrades for armor in the game such as crafting, monster drops, running dungeons, and buying them with karma obtained from doing quests and dynamic events. You can run dungeons with friends. There are currently 8 dungeons in the game. Each dungeon has a story mode and 3 explorable modes, which make the dungeons more expansive and more challenging. They are intended for higher level players.
You do not have to participate in pvp if you do not want to. The graphics and art is amazing and there is a huge variety of environments in the game. There game does have a good story and huge amount of background lore you can explore if you were so inclined. Your character has a storyline and your personal story and quests for you personal story are effected by your actions in the game, what race you play, and the options you chose in the beginning of the game when you create your character.
Basically, this game has everything you said you were looking for. I don't understand what you mean by "console style game play." This is a video game. You are required to control your character. You need to be able to react to what's happening on the screen to play. Conventional RPG gameplay is pen and paper.

Fanboys all up in here.
The queens are on the march for sure.
Compared to most MMO's the combat IS rather arcade like.
- active blocks/evade/etc. only
- double tap dodging
- 5 weapon attacks (similar to high/low punch + high/low kick + whatever else)
- self heals and no clearly defined tank/healer class (everyone is pretty much the DPS role with minor variations)
(adds to the individualistic nature of each character and thus creates a more arcade feel, similar to playing the old X-men arcade game with three friends, where you were essentially 4 self-reliant individuals and not 4 operational teamates who relied on each other completely)

Now I've heard it all, for the longest time GW2 deriders claim combat is nothing special and the same as other mmo, now it's apparently too different.
Next up, DE are too different from traditional questing...

So we have another TSW "player" that feels compelled to take the time to MAKE a thread so they can share with us that they don't like GW2.
Wonder how many threads there would be if all the GW2 fans decided to let everyone know that they don't plan on playing TSW?
All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.
