Originally posted by zevni78I have heard Tortage comparisons from several GW2 sceptics here, which reminds me of the god of the gaps arguments, they can no longer claim the content so many experienced in the betas is bad, so they simply assume what we havent seen still vindicates their position, pretty desperate and arrogant really. Why would Anet who have a strong veto on the release date and are relying on word of mouth after launch sabotage themselves? They are not incompetent, so its an accusation of fraud based on no evidence.
calling them skeptics is crediting them too much. real skeptics wait for trusted reviews or a trial while NOT picking a side, for or against. real skeptics also don't consider fans of the game as the enemy and lead double internet lives between certain forums.
Who even cares. You get the same amount of xp no matter where you level, no matter what zone or level it is. You can be level 50 doing the level 10 zones and get the same xp, and you won't 1 shot everything. Even if there aren't level 50+ zones, there are still 4 other races' zones to go to and play.

Because Tortage, in AoC, was the intro zone, and it was amazing. Then as you leveled up to other zones, it became quite clear how badly the game started to show.
yea, what flash and little substance they had was front loaded and the rest was a severely sub standard MMO treadmill.
Even if it was broken past 30....So what? It's still worth playing 1-30 now. The game isn't such that you'd be losing money, since there is no sub. It's not like you know they wouldn't fix it ASAP.
Even if you got there before they did, Worst case, you take a break from the game and come back when it's patched.

So tempting, I even started watching the video but, I summoned some strength from somewhere to close it before spoiling something potentially awesome that I want to see for myself ingame.
im not even sure why anyone would even compare the two studios. Funcom and Anet have way different priorities and agenda's before release as all studios are different. The one thing I remember about leaving Tortage was getting into the highlands in connacht or whatever its called and thinking wow finally open world! but i was sadly mistaken it was a buggy nightmare with no one ever around and a very long drawn out quest chain set that you couldnt finish without a full group or a high level player.
I don't think anyone could fear that ANet would "pull a Funcom" with GW2. AoC was so unbelievably unfinished and borked beyond the starter island that for any other company to launch in that fashion their building would have to be filled with terrorists, surrounded by police and one rogue Bruce Willis dragging himself around because his feet are bleeding from broken glass.

You are quite right, I was trying to avoid the term "hater", and give them the benefit of the doubt that they have rational reasons for their position, though I have yet to hear solid arguments, just sneers. Sceptic is was I would normally call myself, but on this one, the art, music, and passion of the devs won me over un-conditionally long ago. On any other mmo I don’t get carried away with the crowd, but I still think I can cite evidence, and would like to hear better arguments from GW2 critics (not to imply they are critical thinkers).
And thank you would giving these forums a text book description of a sceptic, I should save that terms for those that earn it.
