yes but it was clear from the get go SWTOR was bad.. all the videos showed the terrible graphics and the betas proved it and showed how much of a WOW clone it was. Apples and oranges.

I should add that unfortunately many many many SW fans would see reason before release and those of us trying to help.. sorta got slaughtered on the forums.

    time will tell.

And i kind of feel the same about GW2 fans.

exactly how? the videos before beta have shown it to be a good game and the BWEs proved it.. nothing like SWTOR

c no diffrence in GW2 and SWTOR beta reveiws.

I am not talking paid reviews by online gaming companies nor am I talking hardcore SW fans. I am talking the everyday Joe who watches the vids and comes in UNBIASED.

to give you some history.. SWTOR was supposed to be my guilds new game, we even reserved the guild name but for the reasons I stated above.. few of us bought it. THat is the complete opposite for GW2 and very few of us even knew about GW2 before SWTOR.. hell I knew about TSW before GW2.

Agreed, within a month or so you'll realize it really is just another MMO and the excitement will wear off.

The game is still largely untested past a certain point. So one cannot logically deny that as a possibility. Even so, I think I can still walk away satisfied with my purchase.

I have paid more for less.

And Besides....I've been a Rift fan since it came out.....

But no, you enjoy standard theme park games as they are currently designed, so I predict many months of fun for folks like yourself.

And like you said, we've all paid for products that proved to be far less of a good value than I'm sure GW2 will.

I was just saying that the initial excitement the OP is feeling might wear off, doesn't mean that he won't continue to having much fun for a long time to come.

@GeezerGamer : The answer why is pretty simple, we've not been served a decently solid MMO since such a long, long time ...

K-damage nailed it on the head!

the other ignorant comments are just going to end up missing out.

You've proven to yourself that all the doubts you had about GW2 were blown away by an amazingly built game.

Its time we had something refreshing and maybe the two jaded players will find something that pleases them in a game soon, though I don't see anything releasing any time soon that has a drop of hope in the same genre.   See you in Tyria!!!!

I still can justify buying the game.

First off melee useless in sieges is bad. Very bad for gamers.

Second is no roles. That is not the evolution of combat it is de-evolution and anyone the knows military history knows this. We need roles for advanced combat.

Both of these reasons is why small groups are not going to be able to succeed in WvW becuase the only deciding factor of the victor is the size of the zerg. And yes this is what no roles create and no melee it is just a ranged zerg at that.

Tell me why people think this is the next evolution of gaming? Please for the love of God how is this better?

It seems to just be a fantasy FPS game in WvW!

These are my concerns and I want so bad to play a game with my friends (Who all bought GW2) but I can just go play COD also instead.

All melee has range weapons they can use.

    There are roles.

Zergs happen on all big conflicts, people just need to stop acting like there is some game that has mass battles were there is no zerg...

Its pve is interesting and different from the rest. Its pvp is a breath of fresh air in this time in mmo gaming.

Months/Years passed, and when beta time came, I was on the fence. SO many MMO's have flopped and been a waste of $40-60, and have left a bad taste.

The more I played it though, the more I came to love it. Now it's at a point where I've never been this excited for a game release. The beta/stress tests have been getting better and the game runs like a champ. I'm this excited and I haven't even STARTED the PVE game yet. It's all because of sPVP and how many things they've done right with the combat and skill systems.

It is both familiar and innovative. GW2 will almost definitely be my main game for years to come.

     "almost definitely"?

This was one of my persuading factors, I have 3 guys I work with who are planning to buy it. I am of the mind set that playing with friends in their game of choice is better than solo in my game of choice.

Aye, the difference was people in beta let everyone know the flaws and the game was released without standard features, and static worlds with no life, and a broken pvp zone. Word of mouth of the game before it was released was bad news.

We knew in beta there would be nothing to do but sit at the fleet and beg for groups for months on end and wait for battlegrounds, because you sure as heck didn't want to be somewhere like Corelia or Tattoine trying to get back from a battleground....load screens were a nightmare. Even on high end rigs it ran horrible.

Anyways...can't wait to til we all log in for the first time for GW2!  image

Ok bad answer all melee has range (Not Melee at this point) and we know this but that is not a good thing. Ranges DPS zergs do not make good gameplay.

Yes there are plenty of games where smalll qroups use skill and tactics to fight off and win against large groups. Zerg is not the deciding factor is many games.

I know what you are saying but taking out Melee in WvW (MELEE not range) is a bad design. Just because every class as range still doesn't tell me why they made melee useless when many games never had a problem with melee in sieges.

PvE is nothing new and has not impact on me buying the game or not only WvW would be the deciding factor since it is their primary feature they need to sell me on. PvE is only a few days of content anyway.

Take 20 people in WoW and go up against 30. Then, take a melee class and charge into the pack of 30 enemies - tell me how that goes for you.

You see the point? Melee is inherintly difficult in large group situations. Peeling is a necessity. This is not a game design - its a basic tenant of large scale battle.

Almost definitely. Meaning, right now, I can see myself playing GW2 as my main game for years to come. But since years is plural, and there is no way to tell what will be out in 2 or more years, I can not be definite about it. I can only be almost definite.

    LOL

I did the same thing! I focused on other games though I always though GW should be open world to be an MMO. I was happy for my friend, who's first MMO was GW, that it was happening.

A month or two ago I put the pieces together and got really excited. So much so I backed off spazzing to my friend about it because she wanted to be surprised by the details.

The simple answer to this is: it is exciting to see a new game come out, especially as you bought into it. Why fight it, I would instead relish it. It will not last long, that sense of longing, but what I hope that it is replaced with for you is a sense of havign fun. The true success of Guild Wars 2 will be if it can evoke in people a sense of fun, however it does that.

So think of it this way - you are probably already having fun and the game is not even available to you. Just... enjoy it!

The idea is you can switch from range and melee for typically melee classes. The only problem I saw for melee in WvW was against the wall, in skirmishes they were completely viable.

You can achieve the same in GW2, a small organized group can beat a bigger group. Not sure what is it that your complaining about. What I was saying is that zergs will always be there, they can be beat though.

PvE is definately a taste thing, the fact is though that its different. I agree that for many pve will not be enough content. I believe pvp is GW2s "shinning light".
