How on earth did this game score 8.2 in community?
This game has the worst community in any mmorpg ever.
Few examples.
General channel: this gives a good indication of the mental age of your average World of Warcraft player, either consists of constant swearing, TYPING IN CAPITALS TO GET SOME KIND OF ATTENTION, flame wars. Based on general channel alone no way can it score 8.2.
Forums: /signed, /signed etc, omgwtfpwned111!!, u r sitch a looser wtf post ear, again see comments under general.
Looting: Hevean forbid anyone makes a genuine mistake in this game if someone in your group accidentally rolls for an item when they shouldn't do you always get a peed off player who like a baby I've seen people leave group instances before the end boss because of it.
You could see a chest in the world and spend about 30 minutes fighting your way to it, when someone typically 10 levels above you or in group waltzes in and opens it. I have had players open chests while Im right next to it getting the crap between out of me by a centaur.
Enchanters in instances, if they are in your group they will roll on every single item. If you group with someone and they roll on items they shouldn't really roll on ask if they are one (note player in above example wasn't one).
Killing named's: named mobs are on a very short timer, there you are fighting away when you finally kill a named mob, only to have someone arrive 2 minutes later to call you every name under the sun for killing a mob that will respawn in 4 minutes anyway.
Pick up groups: 9 times out of 10 you will be with someone who has done the above and on top of everything will want to remind you at every possiblity that they are l33t and have killed dozens in PvP even groups of players considerably higher than them (otherwise known as bu****it). When you do actually engage in combat they have no idea about group tactics or even how to play their class, shamans who dont use totems, warriors who don't taunt mobs off priests/mages, hunters who dont have a pet or use their powerful ranged weapons the list goes on. not talking about those level 10 and under but players in the latter levels.
Worst community ever and that's before discussing PvP
WoW is a fantastic game spoilt by the Counterstrike, bnet kiddies with a mental age of 12 and under. no doubt they bumped up the score here somewhat.
No way does this game deserve 8.2 in community.

Oh, stop with that overused phrase already. WoW community isn't perfect, but this is far from truth. Jerks, like in most MMOs are in minority, it may be a bit more of them in WoW, but from my observations it isn't that huge difference. And 8.2 score seems alright with that what I've already encountered.
Of course people like you are the reason why it isn't any higher.
i agree with hashman, i was glad i was out of the school yard when i quit a few days ago , some players are really
dont get me wrong here wow is a great game , beautiful in many ways , but it does feel like a school yard on a daily basis.
wanna duel ?? /decline
Once you get into the high lvl zones it gets alot better, but if your still in your 1-30 lvls it sucks.
On the server I play the community isnt half bad. More people give away items on general then they do spamming to try to make a silver or two on it. Even my trips to IF AH didnt result in massive spam from people. But yea, low level instances are gonna suck, even at 40 there not going to be as good as higher levels.
I just dont see the immaturity that i hear people talk about. Maybe because im not on one of the original servers that were up on retail release, or maybe i just havent play in enough places to find it. If its there though, ill find it..>.>
Forums are terrible but they are terible on any MMORPG that has PvP. PPL are competitive no matter their age.
Cannot complain about Wow community, evey time I asked for help I got help. So far I've had a blast dealing with people in game. During my time in EQ I met with (mature) guys that would tell me how to play my class and fight over little things when we grouped... I mean its more about luck than anything else IMO.
I agree with previous posters the percentage of jerks is the same, WoW may have more of them cause WoW has a lot more subscribers than the ohter MMORPGs atm. Thats all.

If you play on an RP server and you are high up in levels, then you are really going to enjoy the community. It is fun seeing all the people running around using emotes and actually talking like they'd imagine their character talking.
I really enjoyed playing on a PvP server, and you will too if you have the right attitude about playing RP in an RPG game...go figure, huh?
Other than that, you're right, community does stink something awful. Get yourself a guild and leave the general chat channels until you get into the 40+ zones. Just keep Trade and Local/World defense open and you'll be okay.
the community on my server is quit good. everyone's friendly and they keep role-playing all time (rp sever)
the only problem is that there aren't many players early in the morgning. and if there are any, you still can't even get a decent word out of them. but all that aside, I think wow deserved that 8.2 on community
Argent Dawn, EU server here (RP). Community is not bad. it is not best either (i think EQ2 RP community was better), but surely not worst than SWG or others.
As for the forums.... i assure you is nothing new. I've been following DaoC forums in the early days and it was even worse. (at least here the whines are about server instability and the class hates exists, but it is somewhat limited. in early daoc everybody hated every other classess ... was quite bad... and then the nerf bat started swinging... I give kudos to Blizzard to said out flat "you can whine all you want but we know your opinion is not impartial so you either do a reasoned and well tought post or else do not expect we nerf everybody just cause you say so")
Typical example of never pleased humanity. Everybody wanted character transfers. everybody agreed they were the best solution. Now there are character transfers and people find bad to say even about that.
*shrugs* everything you do, somebody won't like it... no matter what.

The score has nothing to do with reality in any of these games. People that like the games will go through and mark everything a 10, just so their game can be on top. There are very few people that actually grade the game on what is supposed to be graded.
For example: On the CoH boards I said CoH starts off great then gets boring. As proof of this I said to look at the rating. A few weeks ago it was 8.3 (or something) and at now (at that time) it was barely a 7. The very next day the rating shot up to 8.5. Do you really think that many people thought the game got that much better in less than 24hrs?
The rating system on this site is useless. It was a great idea, but people can't handle it if a game they like isn't on top, so the give ones to games they've never played and 10's on everything for every game they like.
What might instill some honesty, is if you were able to see what people rated different games, and IP addresses of the people that post so you knew who was using a Troll account or 4.
I have really mixed feelings about the WoW community at this point. I play Horde on Perenolde, and the community is actually pretty good, most of the time. But then my daughter was playing on another server, and I turned the General channel off because I couldn't stomach the racist and sexist jokes being told in that public channel, and then the resulting flame war about "whiners who can't take a joke". (I just turned off the channel and didn't get into it.) I think there's a certain amount of common sense involved in knowing the difference between what's appropriate for a general, public audience and what's ok for you to say to your redneck friends in a private chat. It was not what I expected to see, for sure.
My daughter really is a kid, and she can read, but doesn't type well enough to chat and bother anyone. She just wants to go out and kill critters with her little characters (none over level 7) and feel like she's playing. I was really disappointed by the lack of maturity on whatever server she was playing on. But at the same time, that sort of behavior was shocking to me only because I hadn't seen it before in my own experience in this particular game. So, I guess I will take people a little more seriously from now on when they talk about their own bad experiences on other servers.
...
This is where I draw the line: __________________.
Community and WoW is like oil and water. Why even group when you can solo most of it or get a few friends and crawl your own private dungeons. Once you hit 60 you can join a raid guild and work on that if you want.
Nice console type game though, but WoW's community is the worse ever because of the game itself.
You talk to much.
Barry: LOOOOOK AT ME IM AN ATTENTION WHORE!
Everyone Else: No one cares.
Heh, even some NPR dude can enjoy the community. Maybe you guys need to work on your people skills?

But, seriously there are some jackasses. If you can't ignore them and they hamper your fun, then you'd probably have more fun playing a closer knit, less popular mmo. I've been pretty happy with the people on my pvp server.
Playing Euro server Gilneas (PvE) and see a lot of my friends playing on EURO RP servers.
Community .... leaves much to be desired.
Roleplaying ... nil ... nada ... zero ...
The usual problems of flame wars in general chat and L33T talk from losers that a short while later show a total lack of understanding for their class, profession, level ... and general principles of the game. The ones who always rush forward and pull 5-7 high level mobs, then run right into and past the group, getting many killed (no matter what tactics was agreed to in group talk). The ones who abandon a group the millisecond they achieved their personal goal ... teleporting out with a soulstone and leave the rest of the group to eat crow.
Maybe I am jaded from the community in Star Wars Galaxies and EVE. I never played Diablo on Battlenet ... not used to that kind of community. Even in CS I have seen a more mature community .. and that says a lot.
Otherwise ... its a nice game, especially from level 1-20 ... will bring MANY new people to MMORPGs and has set new standards for making such games accessible and fun to newbies. Gets boring quickly at higher levels.
Have fun
Erillion
I have no problems with community. Why? becuase its so easy to ignore jackasses. Its that easy. In time, depending on how picky you are, you will ignore most of the assholes and you will be filtering in only the good stuff. After all, spammer/lamers and assholes in generals dont make new chars on a hourly bases just to bypass your ignore list.
I personaly ignored about 5-10 people who annoyed me, the rest 20-30 were all casinos. I harde ignore anyone else anymore.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

No idea why you say I play Alliance, Horde all the way!
You will find kiddies and jerks in every game.
I myself have had mostly good experiences with the WoW community.
Try playing EQ2 where the majority of players are egotistic and hostile.
