I'm in Europe, I've been playing for 4 hours without a problem, logged out, relogged in without a problem. Probably some isolated login issues that will be solved soon (there were some similar login issues during BWE1, they were solved quickly)

This problem happened in bwe1 aswell, i thought they might have addressed the issue because of that, obviously not. But as a european customer i am used to being treated as a second class citizen, so i am not surprised really.

Their twitter updates tells us they are aware of huge problems with login in Europe.
Currently seems to take anywhere between 1-infinite tries to login. Only managed to get 2 of my reserved names. Could not create a third char with the name "Halandir" - Was taken by someone else but nevermind: I don't like 1-word names anyway :-)
We dont need casuals in our games!!! Errm... Well we DO need casuals to fund and populate our games - But the games should be all about "hardcore" because: We dont need casuals in our games!!! (repeat ad infinitum)

They should blame whoever it makes them feel better to blame. That's the only purpose to such comments. And even then it usually doesn't work--they're still more flustered and out of sorts than people who calmly take it in stride.

Yes.
NCSoft are responsible for the servers both sides of the pond.
As others have said, I think the game is a victim of its own popularity. I managed to log in at 5am BST when the servers came up 3hrs before the official launch and connected with no problems. Got my names, then went back to bed.
Now is primetime UK and everyone and their dog is trying to log in.
The same will happen to the US servers when the Americans wake up.
I think its fair to say ANet/NCSoft did everything they could to try to ensure a smooth launch. They have tested the crap out of these login servers with all the stress tests and I have never seen any other MMO where they did so much testing before launch....unfortunately Launch is Launch and there are millions of people trying to connect all at once and it would appear their servers just cant handle it.

I aint complaining, I have other things to do besides gaming on a Saturday (like...erm writing on gaming forums...ahem) but people have a right to be pissed. Pre-purchase means they have your money in their coffers for the privilage of beta and early access...it's a business and you're paying for a service that people are frustratingly not getting since 8am this morning. That said it'll likely be sorted at some point soon and this will all be a distant unpleasent memory.
Well during the whole night I only go booted 3 times, ( Canada here ) but I feel for the folks that cannot login at all that just sucks. Launch pain issues is all.
Yup they care so little for EU that all stress tests were during the prime gaming hours for EU, there was an EU only giveaway where the rest of the world didn't have a giveaway yet and EU has the most servers with (arguably) also the coolest names.

You forgot debuting the game during their morning hours, while it's the middle of the night for the US.

I believe that Arenanet are secretly trying to lull the Europeans into a false sense of security just so they can smother them while they sleep! (lol conspiracy theories)
Cheers!

It's a volume issue on the log in servers. I ahve gotten in and played, but at the moment the problem is not being able to log in or disconnecting while playing the game and then not being able to log in.
Really bad from Arena Net that they haven't judged the volume of people looking to play.
Remember folks, you paid good real honest bucks to play this and it is really bad that so many players are not able to get in and play the game.

Poor tech's that are hard at work battling the issues. While they are at it they could put on a new title-tune: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAI65V5Kbw8
