That's too bad, because where I'm at (on Jade Quarry), everyone seems pretty awesome. Actually, I'm a bit shocked. Perhaps when full launch comes......... actually, it probably won't even change much since my server is full.
First off, my problem is that map channel is full of trolls and aholes and people bickering with each other. Even when someone does something semi rp, they do it to insult someone, and then someone else has to then nitpick at whether or not they have the lore correct. It's seriously the most senseless behavior I have ever seen.
This is not a typical 'plop five dollars down to play during headstart'. These are people who paid 60 dollars to play the game a few days early. If they are acting like this, god knows how it's going to be at release, and how bad it will get as some people tire of the game.
I'm really dissapointed. As much as I should expect it, I suddenly feel sick to my stomach with it. Why pay money to log into a game and be an ahole to others? I don't get it. Why aren't people cooperating, calling out asking for groups, helping others, etc?
Is there nothing at low levels that requires cooperation and grouping?
Does it have something to do with constantly being in an overflow server?
Maybe it's just the late night crowd...
We tried to warn you. F2P (or in this case B2P, whatever the hell they want to call it) = shit community. Thats just the way it is. People who can afford $15 a month for an mmo (almost always) have jobs, which means they're generally reasonably responsible people. People who can't are usually slackers, degenerates or super young. Either way they're not people you want to associate with in game.
Wow isn't f2p and that community is shit, so there goes your theory.
When you put 2 million people in a game...some of them are bound to be dicks. The key is to remember that probably 95% of people in the game are not dicks, and to not assume that everyone is a dick because you have one or two bad experiences.
Originally posted by xposeidon OP could you post your server so people can avoid it, everyone else's server seems to have a fair to good community.
Was exactly what I was thinking, I want to know what server the OP is on to make sure I never select it, because most everyone else seems to be having a great experience.

Sea of sorrow everyone is nice and friendly ^^ ... WHERE CAN I GET SOME JUTE! random: KILL SOME CENTAURS AND BANDITS (listing off area's) THANKS BRO! random: Also try salvaging! ... Love my server xD
I m sorry to hear this but theres bound to be a few immature idiots in a game thats looking like it might give WoW a run for its money . I'm playing WoW at the moment and weirdly not come up across much stupidity at all this last weekend . I dunno if the two are linked .
I think alot of good points have been made so far. As far as my experience goes on Jade Quarry in the MMORPG.COM guild goes: It has been awesome. Jade Quarry appears to have a really good community so far. I'm sorry that your experience was not so positive OP.
Cheers!

This was another concern of mine. Afraid that GW2 will be the next big thing for the WoW kids. Also, as someone else stated, you tend to get worse communities in bigger games.
Lastly, heavily pvp centric games unfortunately tend to draw a lot of the worst type of gamers.
I think any game that is more PvP centric brings out the worse in players <imo>
I would name the games, but don't want to start a flame war.
However when you got a game more PvE centric, it seems the community rallys a lot better with a common goal.

I completely agree with this.
FFXI / FFXIV have an awesome community. These have none/very little PvP options.
Even TSW has a great community since the game revolves around PvE.
You really think a payment model makes any difference in how people act? MMO's are full of these types of players. P2P, B2P or F2P, the only difference is volume, which again has nothing to do with payment model. It plagues any popular game P2P or not. WOW is notorious when it comes to this subject. With GW2, if it remains popular, it will suffer the same consequence of mass appeal.
Of course it matters. If their account gets banned, then they just make another one. However, GW2 costs $60 and I doubt it could be a reason. The CS doesn't help either, but I don't see any reason for it to effect behavior this much at this point in time.
It happens in every big MMO release, and it has more to do with the sale numbers than with the game. The more people buying the game, the more chances you'll come across trolls and douchebags. Technically the number of nice, friendly players should increase as well, and it probably does. However, from my experience it seems trolls sand douchebags tend to be the more outspoken bunch, and you're more likely to encounter them in general chat, etc.
Games/servers with smaller communities don't usually have this problems because the trolls/douchebags don't thrive as much in smaller populations. They are eventually recognized as trolls/jerks and stop getting reactions from people.
Of course douche bags like Joe are in your game, you have trolled every other forum telling them their game is bad and GW2 being free and all is much better.
What would you think will happen if you go overboard convincing everyone to play your game?
It is a popular game so you will get trolls and douchebags. It is kind of obvious really. Payment model doesn't matter in this. Having money doesn't stop a douchebag from being a douchebag.
That said, so far on Aurora Glade it has been quite civil. But to be honest, I usually don't care.

Jade Quarry also.... extremely nice server. I have seen like 1 or 2 trolls total.
Even overflow was civil.... OP it might be your server.. are you on a good squad server or something bad?
