GW2 Number 1 MMO on XFire

JackdogJackdog Member UncommonPosts: 6,321

In overall game standing GW2 was the #2 game, in the MMO sub catagory it was number 1

#2 game - GW2 with 77325 XFire hours

#4 game - WoW with 44825 XFire hours

Been watching XFire for 5 plus years now and this was the frirst time I ever saw WoW knocked off it's perch. YersI know you don't use XFire and no one you know does but apparantl;y a lot of people you don't know do and those peole who were playing WoW are now playing GW2.

Not bad considering servers were down for a while

I miss DAoC

It is still below Call of Duty and League of Legends (aka the big boys). Yes, it is the most played MMO at the moment but that's not surprising. GW2 is a very big AAA MMO release of course it's gonig to be played a lot at launch. Lets see what happens next. Diablo 3 was also topping the charts when it got released, not so the case now. WoW has been topping the charts for 8 years!!

I guess we're in the  "XFIRE numbers prove X" phase now

and now its number 3, ahead of wow at number 4..

league of legends seems to be holding the number 1 spot, but COD 4 modern warfare is in second place.

I doubt it will beat League of Legends and COD numbers. LoL is waaaaay ahead. CoD numbers are meaningless because CoD is mostly played on PS3/Xbox360. Ohnly about a tenth of the real CoD numbers are PC numbers. CoD has crazy hours played.

the problem with xfire figures is they don't really mean that much, if you take the number of players using xfire for those games then it becomes even more weird

#1 League of legends   31,653 players

    #2 COD4; Modern Warfare 43,099 players

    #3 Guildwars 2   9,993 players

#4 World of Warcraft  10,333 players

    #5 Call of Duty2  24,373 players

    #17 SW;TOR  1,201 players

    #24 Eve online  818 players.

in the end.. the rankings don't really prove anything at all ... but they do make fun reading.. and you can prove all sorts of whacky things from itimage

No surprise there that GW2 goes up this fast to #3. As said above, I doubt it'll bear CoD4 and LoL though. Other thing I wonder (hope is more like it) is if GW2 will keep this high position for months to come. If it does stay high like this, then ANet has indeed made something that appeals to the general public, and yet keep it innovative enough.

Personally, I think I'll be playing GW2 for the coming months for sure. I want to explore all there is to see, and get all achievements possible. Also, the personal story (necro) is FUN FUN FUN!

I agree it does not mean all that  and it will be curious to see what the numbers wil be in November. Just pointing out  this is the first MMO I have ever seen top WoW in numbers. At #4 place WoW is far from dead not does it mean it is dying . I have always been the first to point out that you cannot compare game A to game B with XFire but it is useful to give a rough estimate of how a game is doing compared to itself. Both LoTRO and AoC also topped 70K Xfire hours when they launched but during those times WoW was topping 90K. LoTRO is now at # 31 and AoC is at #275. SWOTOR was #4 at release but is now #17

Didn't SWTOR top the MMO rankings when it got released. I think there was some point at which SWTOR numbers > WoW numbers.

No it got to number 4 but it wasn't far off GW2 numbers though around 8/9k players at start, GW2 has 10k. The thing to remember is Xfire serves the PvP communities mostly and GW2 is an eagerly anticipated PvP game so this is to be expected, though it could live or die on the quality of the PvP.

If you make a big GW2 Xfire marketing campaign it most probably will. But what proves that? Nothing beside Xfire Stats mean shit.

Impressive but let's see if it will last. ThemeParks rarely have good retention.

Agreed. Hours Played during the first 3-4 weeks is only an indicator of any kind if they are low, as gamers historically log in more often and for longer hours during the first 3-4 weeks of an MMO.

I bet AOC, WAR, LOTRO and TSW were all #1 on xfire at some point too.

None of those games where ever number 1 on xfire.

    Point not proven.

Nope, try again, GW2 is the first MMO to top WoW since its release.

Lets see how well GW2 holds up when MOP releases.

For at least 2-3 weeks, probably. If not, then that would be an indicator of lackluster interest in MoP.

Xfire doesn't mean alot, but it DOES mean something.  That is pretty impressive.  And just think... the game hasn't even launched yet!

If it's still that way 6 months from now, that will mean ALOT more.
