It's a great community because Anet actually bans people who are ragers/rants/misbehavior. It's a great thing, and i hope they keep it up like this.

People seem to chat in general, but not much to each other or face to face.

Saw something similar happen on Crystal Desert, couldn't believe my eyes! I expect this to change come to the 28th but hopefully not too much.

Well, I thought it might have been a local server thing, because we all know that different ones in the same game can grow very different cultures, but it seems /map chat has been good pretty much right through the game so far.

    Why is this though?

The fact that PvP orientated players are not forced to endure what they consider to be 'boring' PvE content in order to fight, and so don't have to entertain themselves in other ways?

Core game design, as in the removal of many points of conflict throughout the world and the introduction of puzzle elements (the jumping challenges) to discuss?

    Active policing by the GMs?

The general lovelyness of GW players?

    All of the above?

I think there is one thing that affects it a lot. The lack of global chat. 1 asshat goes a long way in global. That same asshat doesn't have the same impact in zone chat.

Yes.  I doubled up on the Meowhead thing, I'm selling it pretty hard. :)  I had hear 4chan people were planning on trolling the RPers, but I think their short attention span made that fail.

Why am I distrubed by the fact that 4chan people actually think they are oool enough to gang up and troll anyone else? I guess it's true. Doctor's really do over medicate...

This is funny because I feel so embarrased when I am downed or defeated that I must say thank you when someone revives me. Never had that feeling in another MMO.

    So nice to see :)

yep me and a guardian (engineer here) were stuck in an alcove trying to revive like five people, we held our own as they kept popping (the enemies) and took them out. We were profusely thanked for rezzing the people stuck there because the teleport was so far away.

    It's those little things.

I am very happy on Far Shiverpeaks :) You have the occasional troll in chat but they are usually ignored or shot down very quickly. People are very helpful during events, rezzing when needed and helping out when they see others in trouble.

The fact that you are no longer each others competition while fighting, looting and gathering but get rewarded for such things as rezzing people makes for such a waaaay more friendly community.

I think the primary reason is the fact that there is so little competition in the PvE environement. In other games, everytime that someone else would steal your node/boss/mob or whatever, it would just add another level to the frustration. People wanting to release that frustration take it out on others.

The other fact is that in the WvW it's promoting server pride.

Another is that it's buy2play (not free2play @#$@#$@!!!!  lol  ) so there is a general feeling of relaxed play rather than a rush to cap.

The last and probably biggest reason, is the types of people that really enjoy making other peoples life difficult by greifing or whatever, really don't have a part of the game that is for them. THEY don't have a reason to play GW2

hey, you coulda just ignored it and smiled ;)

I was just speaking from personal experience from games I have played. I could have easily talked about the nasty assed Aion community or whatever as well. These were just two games that I have tried this year so they got used. No otyher agenda.

As for your 'irony'.. well, this thread is talking about how the /map chat isn't arrogant at all (which seems to be a very common consenus), so I am not getting your 'big irony' really :/

If me saying these things offended, then I apologise, but remember... No one can offend you, you can only choose to be offended.

Some of us didnt get in, Far Shiverpeaks were full faster than a bullet... Right now 2/3s of our guild are on other servers. :(

On the other hand will we have that fixed eventually since there is a free home server transfer.

So far do the community seems nice though but we will see tomorrow when "normal" people will start to play unlike people who paid for the game in april. So far so good at least (except a few guys insisting to only speak german).

Shiverpeaks is locked off now then?

Damn... still have RL friends coming to play... guess I will be guesting on their server a bit

So far I haven't had any real contact with the community. Maybe it's because my character is just level 10. Running around, questing, gathering, sometimes asking something, seeing other players run around nearby.

I think the best community I saw in a game so far is the one of Fallen Earth. And the worst was the one in Heroes of Newerth, during the beta test.

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

One of two things are going on here:

Either every Dbag miraculously decided to not play GW2 while all the nice people did, or the game's cooperative design actually fascilitates the niceness, bringing out the best in players.  Hmmm, I wonder which it could be.

Either way, it's sooooooo refreshing to see so many players helping each other out.  I've already met so many strangers and had great conversations with them.  I forgot that was even possible in MMOs.
