good game...very bad camera...

rungardrungard Member Posts: 1,035

ill be honest, i really like GW2 for what it is. Its a fun game for sure and i give it high marks in all categories thus far...except one..

the game camera is the worst ive seen in a mmo yet. It if squarely focused on the center of your character when it is supposed to be focused on your characters head.

its a real downer for anyone who likes to use the closer views. I can live without 1st peroson, but at least make the 3rd person close views viable.

Im actually alright with the camera.

I'm not alright with the downed camera. It's so annoying to use properly for me. One time I was downed next to a wall and my camera got stuck without being able to move at all.

Really? That sounds like a major design flaw.

I don't know about the design decision behind the camera placement but yes, it takes a little getting used to. No big deal for me, though. I play asura and thus have a lot of free screen. :P

yeah the asura is a little better than the other races for this. Thanks for the tip.

what i dont get though is that they have a slider to move the camera sideways in either direction, whats the real problem with moving it up and down i wonder.

The downed camera defiently needs some work. I found whenver I downed a small cave or indoor corridor I basically couldnt see anything. Unable to zoom out because I could not work out which direction to zoom to not hit a wall and especially since I am a thief with a target ability while downed that lets me move around a little is basically impossible to use when zoomed in so tight. To me it feels like when you go down you character shrinks by about 5x and you are given the equivilant camera controls for a tiny character (hardly any zoom and close to the ground camera)

Edit: I just thought of an idea (it might be terrible) but what if downed camera wasn't super zoomed in on your char but a top down view.

If you continue to make sweeping statements like you know what everyone everywhere thinks about a certain topic then I am going to shout at you.
It easy to type 'I think this is the worst game ever'
Rather than the 'This is the worst game ever'

It's hard to take good screenshots when your toon takes up most of the screen, and scrolling out to take screenshots are not so good either.

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

Camera could definitely use some work. I have ran across a few area's where the camera just get's borked. good example is the great wall skill point, and vista challenge had some really bad issue's with the camera there.

That's actually a pro for me. I like to take snapshots of my characters, and finally find a camara that let's me zoom in without cutting the feet off. And let's face it, taking snapshots where your feet actually match the terrain perfectly (first time for me in any game(mmo or single player) never gets old.

There is definitely some wierd camera issues.

It's more noticeable for triple screen players like me (5760x1080 resolution). Camera almost always clips and glitches in interior spaces.
