Intel Quad core performance?

eAzydamaneAzydaman Member Posts: 218

Hi!

Just curios, people using Quad 2 Core processors, what kind of fps are you getting ? I'm on a Q8200 2,33 ghz with a GTX 460. Around 25-40 fps in PVE but I get a damn slideshow in WvWvW with more than 30 ppl. I'm running on medium settings, low gives me even worse FPS for some reason.

Any tips for things to disable and such? Maybe tweaks in the nvidia control panel?

Thanks!

Disable shadows and post process effects.

If you are running on a 1080p monitor, you can also try lowering the display resolution to 1600x900(if available) or 1366x768. I run at 1366x768 on a P8600 (2-core, 2.4ghz) with 4gb DDR2 and interface set to small with a very good frame rate in WvW (40+).

It is absolutely crucial that you are using the nVidia beta driver 304.79. Anti-aliasing is the biggest performance hog in the video options...turn it off for PvP. Also...you didn't mention how much RAM you have. You are going to chug in highly populated areas with anything less than 4 GB.

That's crazy, what video card are you using?

I just installed the newest beta drivers, 306.42 i think. Should I use 304.79 instead? I heard the newest one has tweaks for GW2.

I have 6GB of ram, should I buy more?

I'm using 301.10 driver. 301.42 didn't work well for me. Need to try some beta I think.

Performance is very good. 40-60 FPS at 1980x1080 resolution with everything maxed except shadows. Probably could optimize further but no need so far.

    Specs: i7-3770@4.2Ghz, 16GB RAM@2.4Ghz, GTX 680.

P.S. Make sure you disabled VSync (or at least try disabling it). While tearing might be annoying it's not very noticeable in GW2 and VSync caused serious input lag in this game for me. I'd say it felt much worse than with other games. (Maybe it's because GW2 combat is different but still.) Also turning VSync on noticeably decreased my framerate. And again the situation was worse than with other games.

Yeah you got a very nice system though. My comp is 3-4 years old. Don't have the money to buy a new one yet. The game is def playable but the WvWvW zergs are impossible to play.

Yeah, I built this rig earlier this summer. Thinking of getting another 680 for SLI because 680 runs much cooler than 580 so it's just perfect for SLI.

On my old Q9550/580 rig I'd probably just set everything to minimum. Can't stand slide show in multiplayer games. I had to PvP in Rift with 15 FPS sometimes and it was so aggravating sometimes I wanted to punch my monitor... or at least unsub which I eventually did. :)

The 306 drivers fixed the fps issues in large engagements. I have the i7 920.
